McMain Lecture "John Carroll Recovered" by Thomas W. Spalding, CFX., Professor Emeritus, Spalding University Sunday, October 22, 2000 4:00 PM Church of the Annunciation 3810 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W. Washington, DC The Monsignor Robert O. McMain Lecture Series has been established by the Catholic Historical Society of Washington in honor of its founder, who served for many years as the official Historian of the Archdiocese of Washington. Each year a noted authority on the history of American Catholicism will be invited to give the lecture. The Society is grateful to the Paul VI Institute for its co-sponsorship of the first McMain Lecture and for sponsoring the reception that will follow the lecture. Brother Thomas W. Spalding of Louisville, Kentucky, is the author of several books and numerous articles on American Catholic history. In his McMain lecture, Brother Spalding will discuss new insights into the life and career of Archbishop John Carroll contained in his forthcoming book, John Carroll Recovered. Copies of Brother Spalding's new book will be available for purchase and signing at the lecture. The Church of the Annunciation is located at Massachusetts and Idaho Avenues, N.W., about three blocks west of the Washington National Cathedral.
