I believe this Lewis M. QUEEN to be the son of Stephen QUEEN and Sarah STEWART, and a brother to the Myra or Elmira QUEEN who married John Harrison HUGHES. Information from his pension claim file: private company F 5th TN Mounted Infantry, Union Army Volunteers 1 Oct 1864 to 26 June 1865. From Murphy, Cherokee County, NC filed claim 20 Sep 1869 and died in Union Co GA 1 Oct 1870 while the claim was still pending. A medical exam in Jan 1870 showed he had galloping consumption or military tuberculosis. Consumption was listed as cause of death on the death certificate. He was in Co F along with John HUGHES [the one who married Myra QUEEN] and Jasper STUART and they made an affidavit for Lewis on 26 Nov 1869. Course it probably didn't help much that John and Jasper both had deserted on 29 Dec 1864! on 5 Dec 1870 Mary Ann CHRISTOPHER QUEEN filed a claim for the pension as Lewis's legal widow. She had a marriage certificate and couple of kids so she got $8 a month for herself and $2 each for the kids. Her first check was $627. Then on 4 Nov 1871, along came ANOTHER widow of Lewis QUEEN. One Margaret E. LEMMONS QUEEN. She stated they were married Sep 1863 in Cherokee County by John W. SHEARER, JP. Just thought it was interesting that he seems to have had TWO widows and no divorce that anyone has found.
