Hi folks, Why can't we find the yellowjacket's nest? They're flying all around, probably came from the same nest; but I can't find the nest! Maybe someday we'll step on it. I'm tinkering (meaning, please do not take as any sort of adequate documented proof) with these ramblings: The S. Queen (b. ca 1776-1780) of 1810 Montgomery Co., NC was the Samuel Queen of 1820 and 1830 Haywood, 1840 Habersham, GA, 1850 Rabun Co, GA, 1860 Rabun Co. Sons of this Samuel were William, James, Alfred and Hugh. Why didn't he name a son, Samuel? Or, did he? This Samuel was in Montgomery in 1810 and in Haywood in Feb 1820. This leaves about a 10 year gap with his location unproven. In his travels from Montgomery to Haywood sometime after 1810, he would likely have passed through Rutherford or Burke; perhaps settling there for a while. Something would have caused him to have left Montgomery and headed West. Perhaps it was family. If so, who was that family? I'm choosing Burke as the likely temporary stop only because his son, William (if that's the one) returned (or went) to Burke sometime after 1820 Haywood to marry Mary Ann Patton there in 1824. With this tinkering, I'm also again opening the door to the possibility that it was this Samuel Queen who was bondsman for the marriage of Timothey Queen and Mary Ann State (or Slate) in Haywood in 1816. If true, then Samuel stopped in Burke between 1810 and 1816 and perhaps spent some time with a relative who had a son/brother named Timothey. Timothey then went with Uncle Samuel (or whatever the relation) and family on over into Haywood where he met and married Mary Ann. But, Timothey wasn't happy in Haywood, so before the 1820 census he took off for parts unknown. Timothey died sometime later and Mary Ann remained a widow until the 1860 Haywood census if that's her , Polly Queen, with her dad, John Slate. Why did she return "home"? She's living near a William Wilson and a James Wooten. Mean anything? Anyway, Samuel and some of the kids took off for GA after 1830 Haywood, Alfred went to TN, James stayed in NC. Alfred returned to NC to live near James. But, what about the 1810 - 1816 or 1820 time frame? C'mon Burke County researchers, give me a hint, a clue, a "what if". Moses and Samuel are biblical names. (But, so are John, James, etc). And, what about Paulette's Hence living next door to William in Rabun Co in 1840 and 50? Coincidence? I don't think so. This Henson was born ca 1780. He may have been the "Uncle Hense" who bought land in Macon County, NC in 1833. ("By deed dated April 8, 1833, Uncle Hense purchased from Andrew Cathey a tract of land located in the north or lower end of Macon County on the Little Tennessee River. This deed was witnessed by John W. QUEEN. Then by deed dated January 17, 1854, Uncle Hense sold the tract to John W. QUEEN. In the meantime, John W. QUEEN had in 1842 purchased lands from Joseph Clements.") There is a Henson (age 40-50) and single, on the 1830 Haywood census index, but not the 1840, 50, or 60 for NC. This Henson thought by some to be a son of Samuel and Dicey Queen and may have married "a Visage woman". Do we have a Henson Queen (son of Samuel of 1759 and Dicey) in Rabun in 1840 living next door to a William Queen (son of Samuel of 1776-80)? And....why didn't Samuel of 1759 name a son after himself? Bedtime. Gene

I'm one of his descendants through James, and I'd *love* to know why Houston kept showing up as a male middle name in that line for at least three or four generations. > This Samuel was in Montgomery in 1810 and in Haywood in Feb 1820. I keep *meaning* to get that book that shows the development of N.C. counties, but I know enough about N.C. county development without it to query whether all of that would have required moving -- wouldn't he just needed to stay put at the right time and place to live in two or three different counties? I'm descended from the Jackson Co. Queens and found out a few years ago about the Queens from the Sunburst area of Haywood Co. About three years ago, I found, through sitting down with Jackson Co. Heritage (for church and cemetery names) and a Jackson Co. map that the oldest Queen area in Jackson Co. is in the eastern part of the county, south of what's now Sylva, along what's now 281 (a winding country road that's a right off of 107 if you're going north). He may have been the "Uncle Hense" who bought land in Macon I've noticed that the cemeteries at Addie and Old Field (Beta) (both in the Sylva area of Jackson Co.) are full of Queens, Snyders (late arrivals), Brysons, Hensons, and a few other names, all of whom are multiply related. I'm really fascinated by the Hensons in Jackson Co. as I believe my stepfather is from that line (which he denies, and may not know). He knows his father came from northeast Georgia...
