WAR DEPARTMENT THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S OFFICE WASHINGTON January 5, 1933 IN REPLY ORD REFER TO Respectfully returned to State Auditor, P. O. Box 781, Raleigh, North Carolina. The name J. M. Queen or Jerry M. Queen has not been found on the muster rolls on file in this office of Company A, 49th regiment North Carolina Infantry, Confederate States Army, which cover ther period of April 15, 1862, November and December, 1862, from January, 1863, to December, 1863, and from May, 1864, to August, 1864, and no record has been found of his service, capture or parole as a member of that organization. James M. Higgins was Captain of the Company, H. Clay Conley was 2nd Lieutenant, and Anderson Bowers, William A. Goodson, J. Grayson Neal, George W. Queen, and William Queen served as privates therein. As there are no rolls of the company on file covering a period subsequent to August 31, 1864, the above statement should not be understood as contradicting an allegation of service therein of a man who enlisted subsequent to that date. 1 Inclosure.
