Union Indemnity Company A DIVISION OF INSURANCE SECURITIES COMPANY, INC. Union Indemnities Building, New Orleans Frank L. & Geo A. Hoyle AGENTS SHELBY, N. C. December 21, 1932. Hon Baxter Durham, State Auditor, Raleigh, N. C. Dear Sir: I have yours of the 20th, with reference to pension application from Cleveland County. With reference to the application of J. M. Queen you state that if I will return the questionnaire sent me on October 28th, you would take pleasure in writing the War Department in Washington again with reference to his service. I beg to say that this questionnaire was completed as fully as possible, and returned to you about the 10th, of this month, with a letter showing my investigation of the matter, and also accompanied by a letter from Hon Clyde R. Hoey, bearing upo Mr Queen's application. If you will make an investigation or search of your files, I feel sure that you will find these letters and questionnaire. I am inclined to believe that Mr. Queen was mistaken as to his age only being 83, although he only enlisted within the last few months of the war, and it is a fact that there is no official record of a great many that were enlisted the last few months of the war. In addition to the information that you already have in regard to the service of Mr. Queen, I am enclosing an affidavit of Laban Queen, an Ex-Confederate, and pensioner, and I can get additional affidavits from old soldiers in our County, bearing testimony to the same facts. If my memory serves me right J. M. Queen was at one time a tenant of W. A. Gantt, the father of Clarence Gantt, now employed in your office, I believe. You might as Clarence about uncle "Jerry" Queen. I trust the State Board will not turn this old blind soldier down. Farank L. Hoyle Chmn. Pension Board Cleveland County.
