Thanks to Bob Niota for posting his data to the Queen List. I want to correct one persistent incorrect bit of information that is in his material. He shows both Moses and Meredith Queen as sons of William Lewis Queen, and that Moses Queen married Jane Newton. This is incorrect. Meredith Queen, not Moses, married Jane Newton, daughter of Benjamin Newton. There is a marriage bond for this couple dated 1797 in Rutherford Co., NC. This marriage bond, available from the NC State Archives, has been mis-catalogued due to the difficult handwriting, as a bond for Meredith Queen and Jane WEDEN. But careful comparison of Jane's name (as written) and that of the surety, written by the clerk, shows them to look identical. But the surety signed the bond in his own handwriting, and his name is CLEARLY written Benjamin NEWTON. (I have a photocopy of the actual record, and will be glad to send anyone a copy who wants one, to see for themselves) No offense is meant to Bob. I believe that we all want the most accurate information possible, and I am sure that my data has errors and misinterpretations too. I offer this response in that spirit, and welcome comments from others, if they think I am incorrect here. One other minor problem I saw in Bob's data - the wife of William Lewis Queen, Sr. (the Rev. War veteran, for whom a rejected pension claim is available) was MARGARET (?Meredith). They evidently married in GA, and no marriage record has been found. I've thought in the past that the SON of this couple, William Lewis Queen Jr., married Mary Orr. The reason for this is that in 1822, a Margaret Queen acted as administrator for the estate of Mary Orr (apparently her mother) AND also for the estate of William L. Queen. BUT William L. Queen, Sr., was living in 1834, when he applied for his Rev. War pension from Macon Co., NC. So most of us have thought that the William L. who died by 1822 was the SON of Rev. War William L. Queen. Can anyone shed light on this dilemma? I have a large document on the Internet outlining all known material on the Queens of NC, 1750-1850, which you can visit, and review by name. I couldn't figure out how to get the footnotes in the document easily, but if you see something and want to know the source, just e-mail me, and I'll send you the corresponding source material. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2864/ Regards, Reiley Kidd Seattle
