    3. Hi Y'all! Been a while and it's been hard for me to keep up. Wow, Gene really put a burr under the saddle of the Queen group! Thanks Gene! I don't have any Queen info but I did have a 1790 TN map that I wanted to send since Gene was looking for one. Little off the subject but wanted to mention it. We went to Franklin, TN this weekend (middle TN, near Nashville) and toured an old plantation called the Carnton Plantation. It was 100 yds from the Battle of Franklin (Civ War) and served as one of the 44 hospitals in this Battle. They just got the house not too many years ago and are in the process of restoring it. It was used as a hay barn and chickens were running straight through the foyer. (can you imagine? ugh) They found wall paper under some of the things they were tearing down and reproduced it for the foyer so it is very authentic. They have about 4 more rooms done in things that would have been sold at the time in Nashville but they can't find clues to reproduce it authentically. The tour guide was very informative and it was very relaxed as we and one other couple were the only ones touring at the time. He really brushed me up on my Civ. War history. But to go upstairs and see the blood stains on the floor where the operating room was was an amazing step back in time. They had an old wood door set up on saw horses under a window like they would have used back then. Right where the Doc would have stood were blood drips from his apron and a bloody foot print. There was a ring on the floore where his can would have been and then drips from where his assistant stood. There's no way I would cover that w/carpet and they don't think they want to either. He did tell me that a lot of the families stayed after the war but it was a common site to see on folks empty houses, written across the door GTT. Gone to Tx. I didn't know this, did you? I asked him what the attraction was to TX and he told me that there were so many people killed that the land was just up for grabs and the cattle were running free. So when you're looking for ancestors around the Civ. War time, (fr TN) might ck TX. The family who lived there were the McGavock family. And the house that we toured last summer, the Belle Meade Mansion? This McGavock mans sister was the mistress of that Mansion. Kindof interesting. Well, enough on that subject, when I can catch up I'm sure I'll have 100s of print outs to read from the activity on the list!
