    3. Mandy, I have a copy of the book from Amazon - although $16 is a bit for the size of the book, the info has helped me at least make an educated guess regarding the year (range) specific photos have been taken. This is not a recommend/not recommend type message, just that I have it, I have used the info, it does help somewhat. Regards, Jerry.

    1. [QUEEN] How to confuse future generations of Genealogists
    2. Donald Queen
    3. I have 3 sons, all of them a bit strange, but this one wins the prize ! My 2nd son (the troubled middle child) has changed the name of his entire family - legally ...... His family is expecting their 3rd child and since he did not want this new son to bear the burden of teasing in school because our last name has a feminine meaning, he went to court and changed it to MacQueen. He swears that he did it based upon my research into the family genealogy. I don't quite know what to think. I'm delighted to have another grandson and I guess adding a Mac is no different than dropping one 300 years ago, but how do I explain this to my Family Tree program ? Don Queen

    3. Donald, I can certainly understand your son's feelings about teasing in school. I'm thirty years old and still get remarks from the guys I work with. However, I have found that launching into a full blown explanation of our family changing our name to escape persecution etc. is a pretty effective way of taking the butt out of the joke. After a lengthy genealogy lecture most folks begin to look elsewhere for office comedy.......8) Best of luck with the new 'prefix', Charlton Queen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donald Queen" <donqueen@Inreach.com> To: <QUEEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2001 10:01 PM Subject: [QUEEN] How to confuse future generations of Genealogists > I have 3 sons, all of them a bit strange, but this one wins the prize ! > > My 2nd son (the troubled middle child) has changed the name of his entire > family - legally ...... > > His family is expecting their 3rd child and since he did not want this new > son to bear the burden of teasing in school because our last name has a > feminine meaning, he went to court and changed it to MacQueen. > > He swears that he did it based upon my research into the family genealogy. > > I don't quite know what to think. 3. Hi Charlton, I do exactly the same thing when some clod thinks that my name is funny. I look him in the eye and say " my Great Grandfather fought in the Civil War with Davis' Dragoons in the 3rd N.C. Cavalry and his great grandfather fought with the Georgia Rangers on the Continental Line in the Rev. War, what did your ancestors do ?" That shuts them up instantly. Having a name like Queen is a great way to learn who the jerks in the world are. I once had an East Indian desk clerk (with her unpronounceable name on a lapel tag) tell me that I had a funny name. You should have been there, it was a thing of beauty. When I got done with her she was ready to move back to Bombay. 3. "...how do I explain this to my Family Tree program ?" That is the question. That is a LOADED question. Same way I chose to change my middle name from "Marie" to "Phillips" or add "Cantrell" when I married: Personal choice. Go Team! Go AMERICA! The long version? The winner of the war writes the prevailingly "accurate" history: Any way he/she chooses, whether by quill or by byte. In other words, YOU are the editor in this case. Unfortunately, you now have witnesses...hehehe...and we all have cut and paste. As for the technical aspects of the software, one would hope that the makers of the software could provide technical assistance with such a question--purely ficticious details, of course! Best regards, Gayle Phillips Cantrell P.S. Who holds the sticks and stones and the power in the words that hurt? We giveth and we can taketh away. Choice. Oh, and those kids in school...they're just conduits, their mouths are their parents' legacy. Teach your children well. Amen. -----Original Message----- From: Donald Queen [mailto:donqueen@inreach.com] Sent: Wednesday, March 21, 2001 7:02 PM To: QUEEN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [QUEEN] How to confuse future generations of Genealogists I have 3 sons, all of them a bit strange, but this one wins the prize !
