I am a descendant of Meredith Queen and Sarah (Sally) Mode. My gr gr grandmother, Cynthia Ann Queen White was their daughter. Is the DNA test only performed on the Male descendants. Cynthia had a brother, William Monroe Queen, b. 1865. William has a grandson still living. Would he be a good candidate for the DNA test for Meredith's line? I am not sure if he would be willing to participate, but I can ask if anyone thinks that it would be beneficial. I noticed on the Test Results that the one listed for Meredith Queen, born 1823 is unconfirmed. Is this the Meredith who was married to Sarah Mode and died in late 1865. Sharon, The YDNA test for the Queen DNA study can only be taken by a male descendant in this case, a male descendant of Meredith Queen. The male descendant logically should carry the last name Queen and be able to trace from Queen father to Queen grandfather, to Queen great-great grandfather up the line back to the distant Queen progenitor. As you describe it, William Queens grandson would be an excellent candidate for the DNA test, if he carries the male Queen name and therefore the male Queen YDNA. We currently have donors tracing back to two different Meredith Queens in our study. Based on the available informatino, I can't tell which one would be the stronger candidate for a possible match. Perhaps some of the Queen list participants can help us with that. However, I would recommend that you go ahead and try to get you male Queen relative to participate in the study. The more participants we have and the more DNA detail we have for various lines of descent, the easier the becomes to unravel the mysteries and follow the leads to an accurate depiction of descent from a common male ancestor. The reason the second Meredith is listed as Unconfirmed is that we have no other matches of the DNA sequence and lack evidence to confirm him as a separate Queen lineage, and lack information to suggest the participant's ancestry my be affected by some event, such as adoption, where the name is given, but the male YDNA would reflect the natural, not the adoptive Queen father. Only more DNA samples will help us answer these questions.
