Pg 194-195 Written history of the Roman Catholic Church in this locality begins with the ministry of Father John Carroll, later first bishop of the Diocese of Baltimore, considered the founder of the Catholic Church in America. After the Revolution, the devoted parishioners to whom he had ministered at a tiny chapel at his mother's home in Forest Glen, established for him the Church of St. John' the Evangelist at Rock Creek, abour one-half mile from his family home. Anothershrine of Colonial days was Queen's Chapel in Langdon, D.C., bequeathed to Bishop Carroll by Richard Queen. Out of this latter chapel developed the present Church of St. Francis De Sales, located at Twenty-ninth Street and Rhode Island Avenue NE.
