    1. [QUEEN] "my" George Queen

    3. Gene Queen recently asked on the list if I would post my information on my ancestor George Queen: So here's a brief compilation of my information. George Queen was born in North Carolina between 1788 and 1796, estimating from his age on the 1850 (54), 1860 (66), and 1870 (78) federal censuses of Tippah Co. TN, and his headstone in New Hope Cemetery, Benton Co. MS ( "Died 1877, Age 88"). As Gene Queen stated, there is a marriage bond dated 11-8-1818 in Rutherford Co. NC between a George Queen and “Mrs. Betsy Queen” The surety for this bond was Mariday Queen, making it likely that this IS our George. Perhaps this Betsy was the widow of one of George’s brothers, and perhaps she died soon after? More inquiry is needed here. George married his (second?) wife Nancy Newton (born in North Carolina around 1791 ) about 1822, and they lived first in Rutherford County NC and later in Lincoln (later Gaston) County NC until the 1849 , where George was a farmer. George and Nancy had the following known children , all born in NC: 1. Meredith (Maraday) Queen, born 8 July 1823 , married Lavinia Sarah Summey 25 Sept., 1843 in Lincoln Co., NC ; 2. Nancy Queen, born 14 January 1828 NC, married Ephraim Stroup 15 October 1847 Lincoln Co. NC, died 1 January 1897 Benton Co. MS; 3. Elizabeth Queen, born about 1831in NC; 4. Martha Jane Queen, born about 1834 in NC, married James Pybas about 1857, a widow by 1870 with 4 children; and 5. George D. Queen, born about 1841 in NC, married Mary C. Strong 1861 in Tippah Co. MS. The known children do not account for all the younger individuals in George's household on the 1830 and 1840 censuses. There appear to have been at least 3 other children - a son born about 1825, a daughter b. abt. 1829, and another son b. 1830-1835. Some of these children may have died in childhood. There also may have been other, older children. One very likely candidate is Margaret Queen, b. abt 1827. Mrs. Rebecca Williams Harris of Memphis says that the Margaret Queen who married Henry Bird in Lincoln Co., NC on 2-6-1845 was the daughter of George and Nancy Queen, and this fact is supported by the fact that she and her husband migrated to Tippah Co., MS, and are found next door to George and Nancy in 1850. In 1849 or 1850 , George and Nancy Queen moved with their family and those of their two eldest children to Tippah County, Mississippi, where George farmed and his son Meredith was a blacksmith. They lived next door to each other on the 1850 Tippah Co., census. George's wife Nancy Queen died in 1854, and was buried in the New Hope Cemetery, in that portion of Tippah County which became Benton County in 1870. George Queen died in 1877, and was buried along side of his first wife, Nancy, in the New Hope Cemetery in Benton County, MS. ----- Original Message ----- From: O Eugene Queen <EQueen@lexcominc.net> To: Reiley Kidd <radcrk@home.com> Sent: Monday, March 13, 2000 11:24 PM Subject: Children of George Queen > Hi Reiley, > If you have posted it or care to do so, will you please share the names > and estimated DOB as you understand them of the N.
