    1. [QUEEN] Isaac Queen of Cleveland/McDowell Counties
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi folks, Visited my "second home", the library, this evening viewing microfilm in an attempt to tie a ribbon around this Isaac Queen. My summary, including some assumptions:: Isaac Queen (b. 11-1823) Isaac Queen (b. 11-1823) m. Lucinda Towery (b. 9-1827). Isaac was apparently born in Cleveland Co., NC, the son of a Charles Queen (b. ca 1805) and Martha (b. ca 1809). As of the 1900 McDowell County, NC census, Isaac and Lucinda had been married for 49 years which suggests their year of marriage as ca 1851. Lucinda was the mother of 11 children with 8 living at the date of the 1900 census. Isaac's name appears on the 1850 Cleveland County census in the household of his parents, then on the 1860 Cleveland census with his wife and 4 children; then in the Higgins Township of McDowell County on the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census. According to Reiley Kidd's webpage, Isaac joined with others in (1844-45?) in signing a petition to the General Assembly of North Carolina, urging the formation of a new county, Sevier County, from parts of Cleveland, Rutherford, Burke, Catawba and Lincoln Counties. Not dated, this petition was filed (perhaps incorrectly) with other records from the 1844-1845 Session of the General Assembly. The idea was never accepted or enacted. (Reference: as stated.) Isaac owned real estate valued at $40 while in Cleveland County in 1860, then $300 in the Higgins Township of McDowell County as of the enumeration of the 1870 census on July 2, 1870. Isaac was a farmer. At the time of the 1900 McDowell County census, Isaac and his wife, Lucinda, were living in the Higgins Township with their unmarried son, Dock P. Queen. Also in the household was their daughter, Alice P. Pagatt (sp?) and granddaughter, George Ethel Pagatt (sp?) born in 1894. Information from "Roger" at an aol e-mail address in February 2000 indicates that Isaac died in 1901 in McDowell County. Isaac and Lucinda's known children, noted from census records and information from Roger, and using some assumptions, were as follows: John A. Queen (b. ca 1852) Thomas Lawson Queen (b. ca 1855) Joseph Thomas Queen (b. ca 1855)* Martha Elizabeth Queen (b. ca 1857)* Margaret Catharine Queen (b. ca 1864)* William (Dock?) Queen (b. 4-1866)* Susan Eliza Queen (b. ca 1867)* Sophrona C. Queen (b. ca 1869)* Alice Petima Queen (b. 10-1871)* m. Mr. Pagatt (sp?) ....dau George Ethel (sp)(b. 11-1894) References: * indicates one name appeared on a census record. 1850 Cleveland Co., NC census 1860 Cleveland Co. census, pgs 736 & 737 (Isaac listed as Queene) 1870 McDowell Co. census, pg 613, family 59 1880 McDowell Co. census, pg 460, family 30 1900 McDowell Co. census, pg and family numbers scribbled over and unreadable, but in Higgins Township with neighbors Suttles and Stacy.
