Well, Gene and Don wanted to liven this Mail List, and they've gotten their wish. I didn't see the earlier message, reminding us all that this is a list with lots of different viewpoints, as a request for an apology, but as a reminder that we are a diverse group, and that what stirs pride for some may symbolize something negative for others. My roots are in the South, and I have lots of ancestors on BOTH sides of the Civil War, and I am proud of my heritage. This isn't about bashing the South. Personally I urge the list members to respect the feelings of others, particularly those who have differing points of view. Restraint will serve our List well; flame wars will not.
