This is exciting stuff, I've never seen these files before. Looking at them closely suggest the following scenario (regarding my relatives) First we see James W. Queen b.1842 (son of Jameson) fathering the child of R.K. Britain Then Rebecca Davis accuses Jesse Talent (whoever he is) and then Hampton Queen(brother of Jameson) steps in and agrees to pick up the tab, Then brother Jameson chimes in and signs the bond. Either Jesse was a close family friend to Jameson and Hampton or Rebecca really got around. Finally, as family rumor has long suggested, Annie Griffin Whisenhunt, (Jamesons housekeeper) comes up with a baby and she also accuses Jesse Talent backed up by Jameson Queen. Jameson married Annie in 1873. Who in the world was Jesse Talent ? What a story must be buried in these records. Can anyone decipher them further for me? I believe this first assumption is correct as RK Brittain only names one person on the bastardy bonds and that would indicate he is the father of the child (I think). It would probably be a good idea to write to Burke Co., NC courthouse for the actual minutes of this hearing. > First we see James W. Queen b.1842 (son of Jameson) fathering the child of > R.K. Britain ***In these cases, Rebecca just names Jesse Talent and Hampton Queen to post the bond for this child. But it would indicate that these two men had some relationship to Rebecca. > Then Rebecca Davis accuses Jesse Talent (whoever he is) and then Hampton > Queen(brother of Jameson) steps in and agrees to pick up the tab, Then > brother Jameson chimes in and signs the bond. Either Jesse was a close > family friend to Jameson and Hampton or Rebecca really got around. On this one, I believe you are absolutely correct. And now you know why this "rumor" has been so hotly discussed among the descendants. Check the date and see if Jamesons wife was still living at that time. What a story. I think this is actually Jamesons baby and for some reason she also asks Jesse Talent to be a backup. > Finally, as family rumor has long suggested, Annie Griffin Whisenhunt, > (Jamesons housekeeper) comes up with a baby and she also accuses Jesse > Talent backed up by Jameson Queen. > > Jameson married Annie in 1873. > > Who in the world was Jesse Talent ? ****This is an excellent question. Maybe a good connection for you. > I don't know if this is a new book at our library or just one I overlooked, but it sure yielded some interesting info. Carol
