Carol, One of my husbands Couch relatives had this in his family. They were all born in Ark and Tn except one was born in Alabama. We were all stumped as why thinking we missed a marriage somewhere or was this not a child. Five years ago I sent for Cherokee Indian application file on the descendant of one of this mans nephews and low and behold it is stated, My grandmother, the mans sister, went to Alabama in 1857 and came back again in 1858, went to visit relatives there." Evidently she was with child when she went and stayed until after the birth. So you may want to find a relative living there.
