I have been requested by a listmate to provide some info regarding James Smith Queen. James had a large family with lots of descendants, but here is the listing of data regarding his son, John Merrit Queen. I've found no documentation yet that reflects James Smith Queen as a son of W.L.Q., Jr. John Merrit Queen (b. 10-20-1848 m. 12-12-1871? d. 8-23-1934 in Haywood Co) m.Margaret M. Morrow (b. 6-9-1854 d. 6-9-1913) Both were buried in the Queen Cemetery off Rosemount Road (formerly called Hood Road) in the Balsam area. Mary was the daughter of A. J. and Mahalia Massie Morrow of Deep Creek in Swain County. (Listing on cemetery stone for Margaret includes: w/o J. M. Queen). Per Betty Smathers Gunter on 9-1-2001: Her dad, George A. Smathers, bought 393 acres of land from John Merrit Queen in March 1921, one month after Betty was born. The land includes that upon which Betty lives today (2001). John M. lived in a little house across the road from Betty. The cemetery is a short distance up the road on the right from Betty. Betty was born 2-14-1921 and her dad bought the land the next month. The park took 93 acres of the Balsam area land in 1954. .....James A. Queen (b. ca 1873 m. 10-4-1892) m. Martha Alice Parris (b. 3-14-1875 Jackson Co, N. C. d. 11-3-1952 Gastonia, N. C. b.
