    1. [QUEEN] Roll Call - John Queen

    3. My Grandmother was Carrie May Queen Mason. Her parents were William McKinley Queen and Effie Dulumbia Sumner, of Cobb/Cherokee County, GA. My grandmother told me that her father's father's name was "Banks" Queen, and that he's buried in Cherokee County, NC. His wife was "Mollie". A search of marriage records finds a Bank Queen married a Mary Martin, in Clay County, NC on Dec.21, 1881 at Jas. Martin's. His parents were listed as John and Catherine. Mary's father was listed as James B. A census search turned up a John Queen, age 19, and Katherine, age 19, in 1850 Union County, GA. Marriage records show a John Quenn married a Katherine Lowery in Union County, GA on Oct.16, 1850. John and Catherine Queen are listed in the 1860 Cherokee County, NC census. The census lists John as having been born in Burke County, NC. John is listed in the 1870 Union County, GA census (Catherine is apparently deceased), with a son named Buckhead M. (also other children, but I am guessing Buckhead and Bank(s) to be the same person). John is listed in the 1880 Clay County, NC census with a son named Bank. (No 1890 census) In the 1900 Clay County, NC census, Bank H. (or M?) Queen is HOH, his birth year listed as 1862. Along with wife, Mary, and several children, John is listed as Father, with his birthyear noted as 1829. I haven't found the family in 1910 yet. I was told Banks had died around 1900 (his youngest daughter was born 1904), and sometime between then and 1920, Mary "Mollie" Queen and her children moved to Cobb County, GA. I had some information from another researcher putting my John Queen as the son of James C. (1805) and Sarah Queen. However, going by him being born in Burke County, NC in 1829 (if that is accurate information), I checked the 1830 Burke County, NC census, and there is only a William Queen that had a son young enough to be John. It's possible John wasn't born in Burke County, or the family moved away before the 1830 census, but it's all I have to go on as far as following any actual trail at this point. In the 1840 Burke County, NC census, there are only Quinn listings that may or may not be Queens. The first names are too illegible for me to be able to read, but none of the Quinn's ages are correct to be the William Queen from the 1830 census, so I am assuming he moved before 1840. Where, I don't know. That's where I am now. My kids had got involved in alot of activites at school and all, and I somehow got volunteered on the little league board and running concession stands for the youth sports leagues, so I just haven't had time to work on my research much in the past few years. Even now I still only pick it up here and there. But I thought I'd throw my Roll Call in. ~Melessia
