    3. Hello, This past weekend, while passing south along Interstate 79, going home toward Logan Co., from Flatwoods, Braxton Co., WV, I passed a bridge that was named for "The McQuain Brothers." This bridge was located just north of the Clendenin, Kanawha Co., WV exit on I-79. I was struck by the similarity of the name to the MCQUEEN variances commonly discussed on this forum. I did some research and discovered that there are many MCQUAIN's contained within the central to southeastern section of WVA. Probably more McQuain's throughout the state and others as well, but I just mainly searched in WV... There is a similar problem with one of the surnames I search for that originates from VA...COMPTON, but many persons in southern WV and eastern KY pronounce it as CUMPTON. Therefore, some descendants have chosen to spell it as it is pronounced, even though they are from the same progenitor and family lineage of COMPTON. There are other variances also, but this one seems to be the most common. Thanks for all the insights....
