What a great site, lots of tid bits about life in the colonies. But, the term Scotch-Irish refers only to that group of Scots who were placed on the lands of the Irish claimed by the Crown. Cromwell assumed incorrectly that the Scots would be grateful for the gift of land and be less trouble than the Irish. It was only a few years before the experiment was halted, when the Scots turned out to be even a bigger problem for the English. You often see the term used incorrectly, even today when people refer to their mixed heritage as Scotch-Irish. The first clue is, as we all know, Scotch is a drink, the people as a group are Scots. This is not meant as a criticism of Gene or Carol. Just a comment to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking.
