    3. Mt Zion, aka The Glade cemetery is located in the Dooley District of Union County at Rt 325 and Loving Road. So this would definitely be the one Harry was talking about. If Stephen and Sarah are buried here, it is without a readable stone. Was all over this one with my Dad one year and didn't find them - I would have remembered that one since I've been looking so long. ----- Original Message ----- From: "RQueen" <rqueen1@kc.rr.com> To: "RQueen" <rqueen1@kc.rr.com>; "RITAB" <arbyone29@cox.net>; "'QResearchers'" <QUEEN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 12, 2007 1:10 AM Subject: Re: [QUEEN] Georgia or NC Cemetery? > The loving road is in the NE corner of GA, almost directly below the > Tenn/NC > border. between highway76 and 129. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "RQueen" <rqueen1@kc.rr.com> > To: "RITAB" <arbyone29@cox.net>; "'QResearchers'" <QUEEN@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2007 11:54 PM > Subject: Re: [QUEEN] Georgia or NC Cemetery? > > >> Found this by using my search engine "webferret". >> http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/4the3sratledges/cogvoylesjo.html >> ..Mt Zion Church Cem, Glade near Notla Dam, Union CO, GA >> >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "RITAB" <arbyone29@cox.net> >> To: "'QResearchers'" <QUEEN@rootsweb.com> >> Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2007 7:13 PM >> Subject: [QUEEN] Georgia or NC Cemetery? >> >> >>> In 1998 I received an email from Harry Hughes, descendant of Elmira >>> Queen >>> b >>> 1844 GA or NC, married 1861 to John Harrison Hughes b 1842 Polk Co TN. >>> In >>> the email, Harry referenced a burial site for Stephen and Sallie Queen >>> and >>> described the cemetery location as "just across the road from the Notla >>> Dam >>> end of Lovin Road." 3. Scott, There is only circumstanial evidence to support that Old William Queen was the son of Timothy McQueen, but there is enough of it to convince me. William Queen was referred to in the records as Queen, MacQueen, and Quinn- but by following court and land records there is enough evidence to concluded that the records refer to the same man. a. William MacQueen and his first wife, Katherine Lewis were in Maryland early on. William MacQueen and his wife, Katherine MacQueen, inherited part of a plantation called "Birch Den" in Charles County, Maryland from Thomas Lewis's estate, along with her married sisters, Mary Hunt, Elizabeth Fry and Anne Robins and their husbands. Miles Philpeck, "William Queen 1716-1801," Bulletin of The Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County, Vol. XXV, No. 3 (August 1997). Charles County, Maryland Land Record Bk. Witnessed: Thomas Stone, Will Eilbeck. Charles County, Maryland Land Record Bk. O, #2, 402: 12 June 1739, Joseph Hunt and wife Mary Hunt, Joseph Fry and wife Elizabeth Fry, and William Robins and wife Ann Robins, all of Prince George's County, daughters of Thomas Lewis, late of Charles County, sell to Benjamin Thorn of Charles County a tract of 150 acres called Birch Den. Witnessed: Thomas Stone, John Briscoe. 1761/1781 William MacQueen and his second wife, Margaret, are in North Carolina as neighbors with the Frys, Hunts and Robins and John Queen, who I assume was William's brother. The Frys, Hunts, and Robins were William's in-laws by his first wife, Katherine Lewis. Katherine Lewis Queen's sisters and their families were found in Anson County, North Carolina records at the same time as William and John Queen. Philbeck, "William Queen 1716-1801," 135-137. 1. [QUEEN] William H. Queen of NY
    2. Wonder if records, prior to 1841, currently being stored in an old church in Brooklyn, New York would be of any help to the current researchers on this list?? Am referring to those of my g-g grandfather, William H. QUEEN. Some of my family members who are now deceased thought he was of the Gnatty Creek Queens but at this time I have no proof of that. Since I live in East Texas and far away from Brooklyn NY, it is impossible for me to physically check out those records. The church still exists and I have attempted contact by phone but each time had to leave a number and thus far have not received a response. If someone out there on the list would have access to said records it just might help all of us out in the DNA project. I have proved my descending back to this William H. and am in process of getting a direct male descendent to provide a DNA test. What ya'll think? As a side note: Census records for 1840 do show a Wm H. in Brooklyn but then that is such a common name, and since the Census form showed only head of household back then, how can I be sure he is my Wm H? 3. oops - hit send too soon - was going to suggest that you check out cemeterysurveysinc.com They have been surveying that tri-state area for some time and have almost all the cemeteries for Cherokee Co online. Rose Birdwell is the one who started the project and she might know which cemetery that would be. However, I am 95% sure that if they are buried in Cherokee Co, there is no headstone or at least not a readable one. Don't quote me on this, but I believe Stephen's 2nd wife is buried at Peachtree. 3. Just as a start (since you had some moves to OH.) my (Charles Queen group) family moved to Newark,Ohio in 1954/55. I know there were at least four other families of Queens living there from mid 60s to late 80s. I don't believe any of the others were Charles Queen groups because we never socialized. I do know the group located in the Galion, OH. area (farm and run a produce stand there) claim to be from the Charles group and the Queen or MacQueen out of Toledo OH. claim to be from Canada. They run a pretty good sized orchard and produce market there. When I was working my first job as a stock boy 15, my boss bought the building next door. It turned out to be a book store and some things were left; one was a bound edition (can't remember what they call the books) from 1963 of the towns population names addresses and occupations and phone #s. I still have that book somewhere and will look for info to give that may help you. I also recall Sterling Queen of Terra Alta, WV. (as a side note) mentioning stopping at a small Queen's grocery in southeast OH. (maybe Marietta, OH) in the 60/70s and when asking for the owner, a black man answered and after introductions; the owner said his ancestors had been Queen slaves and when the were freed they took the name of the family who treated them well. 2. Scott D Kendall
    3. Okay Gang, I am new to the Queen and to some McQueen research. I have posted this issue several times and get little response. Getting little response concerns me. What documentation do we have that supports that the William Queen of North Carolina is the son of Timothy McQueen of Prince Georges County, MD? There are many online sites stating this as fact. Can we say without any doubt that it is? I know Timothy had sons William c 1716 and John c 1719. There is a William McQuin who died in Shenandoah County, VA c1802 who could have been the son of Timothy. There is a John McQueen who was constable in Orange County, VA c1739 who could have been the son of Timothy. This is particularly interesting because a John McQuin of Fayette County, VA who applied for Rev War Pension in 1818. He was born about 1739 in VA and died in 1833. This John named a son Timothy. There is an internet family tree showing Timothy as the son of John and grandson of Donald and Elizabeth McAlay McQueen. What documentation is there to support this? Please let me hear from you. Thanks Scott

    3. Hi Scott, The only evidence that Wm Queen is the son of Timothy MacQueen is the research of Miles Philbeck in the BGSOTC Aug 1997. This is an extremely well done 13 page article that has convinced me of the ancestry and name change. I know nothing about the McQuinn line. 3. There is an 87% match but that is comparing a RG 43 marker test to 31 of the 37 marker test from FTDNA. The match is between a descendant of Charles Queen born c1720 of VA or Ireland and a descendant of James McQueen of b 1773 of Girvan, Scotland Even if the Queen participant upgraded to RG 43 markers and matched on all the additional markers it would be an 88% match. A 38/43 match may not be genealogically significant (within the last 20 generations), at this time. But it is open to interpretation. Let me know your thoughts. Scott
