    3. My sentiments exactly. Too often Ancestry asks you to "contribute" to their web sites, then they turn around and sell the data. -----Original Message----- From: queen-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:queen-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lee Lamar Sent: Monday, June 18, 2007 10:55 AM To: 'Scott D Kendall'; Queen@rootsweb.com; mcguinn@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [QUEEN] Ancestry.com Partners with Sorenson Genomics RE:McQueen DNA Study Scott, I take a dim view when it comes to Ancestry.com. Pg 194-195 Written history of the Roman Catholic Church in this locality begins with the ministry of Father John Carroll, later first bishop of the Diocese of Baltimore, considered the founder of the Catholic Church in America. After the Revolution, the devoted parishioners to whom he had ministered at a tiny chapel at his mother's home in Forest Glen, established for him the Church of St. John' the Evangelist at Rock Creek, abour one-half mile from his family home. Anothershrine of Colonial days was Queen's Chapel in Langdon, D.C., bequeathed to Bishop Carroll by Richard Queen. Out of this latter chapel developed the present Church of St. Francis De Sales, located at Twenty-ninth Street and Rhode Island Avenue NE.

    3. Any old-timers on the list ever go out to the barn and move rectangular hay bales around to make tunnels/caves to play in as a kid? As a teenager or adult, any listmate ever pick the bales of hay or straw from the ground and load them onto a truck or wagon? Good. Now, the real question...for a reason...what were the approximate dimensions of the rectangular bales? If you have hay in the barn, okay to go measure some bales then answer the question. Yes, I preferred to work in the wheat field loading wheat straw bales rather than the hay field loading hay bales. Any idea why? Thanks, Gene

    3. Greetings all, I have been advised that there is, indeed, an old stone that is inscribed "James C. Queen born 1805 and died 1885...also on the stone it reads James Father of Moses". This link of Moses J. Queen back to James C. Queen certainly appears to be "cast in stone". Now if we can just find the proof from James C. to "old Moses". Work is progressing to obtain YDNA samples to "push" the 18 mutation as far up this tree as possible. Rolla failed to convince me earlier that the 18s on the one "Reuben" sample and the one "old Moses" sample could realistically be anything but a random mutation. But, after pondering the possibilities, it seems that we should try harder with YDNA on these 18s. Rolla may very well be right on the money. So, I'm trying to shake the bushes without coming across as offensive or challenging - difficult task for me. Apologies are certainly offered as I screw up in the search for answers. 3. Anyone live near Blairsville, Ga who could do a bit of cemetery investigation? There is a relatively new stone there that reads "James Father of Mose Queen". See link below. Link: http://www.cemeterysurveysinc.com/?p=134167 Since Moses J. Queen was born in 1828 and died in 1893 it's apparent that this stone was not erected in 1893 at the death of Mose. We believe that James died about 1885. What I'm looking for is an OLD stone and the inscription from that stone - as well as any surrounding Queen stones. I understand that the Pleasant Grove Baptist Cemetery is on Old 76 Blue Ridge Hwy between Blairsville and Blue Ridge, GA. Thanks, Gene

    3. Tinkering just a bit this afternoon with Moses data. Someone shows him as a son of Wm. L. Queen, Sr of 1749 and that he, Moses, was born in Wilkes Co., Ga. I will certainly appreciate any data or clues to support this possibility. First NC record of which I'm aware is the sale of 100 acres of Rutherford County land on Coxes Creek from Wm. L. Queen, Sr. on 4-18-1809 to Moses Queen. (Okay, here's a clue.) On 7-16-1810 Moses sold the Rutherford County land to Michael Hufstiller. The 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1840 Burke County, NC census lists Moses. 1840 Burke also lists a Jas Quinn with 4 sons (?) and 2 daus(?) in household. The age fits for a James C. Queen. All help on Moses appreciated. Thanks, Gene

    1. [QUEEN] Grandpa - You didn't- did you?
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. Of course we must never forget that the DNA sample is of the donor, not necessarily the ancestor. So, if grandpa got out of the mountains of N. C. and went to Texas for a visit??? Yep, sure would like to know if there is a 19 or 20 on that sample. 1. [QUEEN] Mutation 16 on 464c
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. Your observation: Kit 26040 is a different matter. Once we accept that 26040 and 25569 have James C. Queen as the most distant confirmed ancestor, then there is no way that Reubin and Moses could have had a Pa with the 18, then one of the grandsons end up with the 17 (don't go on about parallel mutations). It is just not consistent. I would argue that for 26040, we need to confirm the documentary record back to the most distant confirmed ancestor, and would be willing to argue that at some point things aren't so confirmed, and maybe one of these sponsors is playing with a speculative deck. My response... The donor of 26040 is not willing to confirm a lineage to James C. Queen. More research is needed on this lineage. Thus, my tentative exclusion of this kit from the James C. Queen/old Moses Queen lineage. Gene
