    3. Hi all, During the past week or so I have posted a few messages concerning some possible relationships per the subject. In a recent post I listed the name of Samuel Houston Queen beside the name of Houston Elliott....suggesting the possibility that they may have been named after the same person or the Queen baby may have been named after the 10 yr old Elliott. I also highlighted a couple of maiden names. I certainly did not intend to suggest in any way that there was any connection other than the obvious ones. Thanks, Gene

    1. [QUEEN] Introducing ourselves to new members
    2. Reiley Kidd
    3. Hi, fellow Queen List members. I'm Reiley Kidd, and I am interested in the NC Queen lines, before 1850. I'm presently "stuck" on my ancestor George Queen, who I'll introduce below: George Queen was born in North Carolina between 1788 and 1796. George married his (second) wife Nancy Newton Goins (born in North Carolina around 1791, married Daniel Goins abt 1815, and married George second) about 1822, and they lived first in Rutherford County NC and later in Lincoln (later Gaston) County NC until the 1849 , where George was a farmer. George and Nancy had the following known children, all born in NC: 1. Meredith (Maraday) Queen, born 8 July 1823, married Lavinia Sarah Summey 25 Sept., 1843 in Lincoln Co., NC; 2. Nancy Queen, born 14 January 1828 NC, married Ephraim Stroup 15 October 1847 Lincoln Co. NC, died 1 January 1897 Benton Co. MS; 3. Elizabeth Queen, born about 1831in NC; 4. Martha Jane Queen, born about 1834 in NC, married James Pybas about 1857, a widow by 1870 with 4 children; and 5. George D. Queen, born about 1841 in NC, married Mary C. Strong 1861 in Tippah Co. MS. There may have been other, older children. One very likely candidate is Margaret Queen, b. abt 1827. In 1849 or 1850 , George and Nancy Queen moved with their family and those of their two eldest children to Tippah County, Mississippi, where George farmed and his son Meredith was a blacksmith. They lived next door to each other on the 1850 Tippah Co., census. George's wife Nancy Queen died in 1854, and was buried in the New Hope Cemetery, in that portion of Tippah County which became Benton County in 1870. On 2 Oct. 1855 George Queen bought the NE 1/4 of Section 30, T2R2E, land adjacent to the land purchased by his son Meredith in 1853. On 31 January 1859 in Fayette Co., TN, George married Caroline W. Griffin, a widow, who was born in Tennessee around 1813. Her children by her (second) marriage (Syna Griffin, born about 1847, Margaret V. Griffin, born about 1849, Frances T.S. Griffin, born about 1851 and Robert W. Griffin, born about 1854) were in George and Catherine's household at the time of the 1860 Tippah County Federal census, and also at the time of the 1866 MS State census. Catherine and the three younger children were in his household in 1870. George Queen died in 1877, and was buried along side of his first wife, Nancy, in the New Hope Cemetery in Benton County, MS. Because George named his eldest son Meredith, I believe that he was the son of either Meredith Queen, b. abt 1774 in GA, m. Jane Newton 1797 in Rutherford Co., NC, died after 1860 in NC, OR that George was Meredith's younger brother, and both were sons of William Lewis Queen, Sr. of Rutherford Co.,NC. I'm delighted to share information with others interested in this line. I also maintain a web page devoted to data on the NC Queens, 1750-1850, which you can find at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2864/ This page has over 80 pages of information, all documented, on various Queens. Happy hunting in 2000! Reiley Kidd Seattle

    3. Hi all, Anyone with those easy to access databases have any info regarding: Jason Elliott m. Rebecca Harris in Blount Co, TN on 10-7-1820. Two known children: Malinda Elliott b.in TN m. 7-29-1837 in Haywood Co., NC. to David Mills Amelia Ann Elliott b. TN, m. 10-26-1839 in Haywood Co., NC to Reuben Mills (bro. of David) The two children and families were not in the 1840 or 1850 Haywood Co, NC census; but their older children's birthplaces in later census reports reflect TN as place of birth. By 1860 Jackson County census, they are in NC. Per "Journeys Through Jackson", current edition. Alfred Queen was the bondsman for the Haywood County marriages of both Malinda and Amelia....and their travels out of state are similar to that of Alfred. The greater question is, why was he the bondsman? Does Jason Elliott or Rebecca Harris link to an earlier generation of Queens? Thanks, Gene

    2. Can any of the Queen "cousins" help Mike? Thank you! James B. January 1883, SC). Her parents were George F. BLANTON & Rosanna (LIPSEY) BLANTON. I am related to the family through Rosanna, whose grandfather Ricketson LIPSEY, Sr. was a brother to Marmaduke LIPSEY--my 5th great-grandfather. In 1910 Amanda is living with her parents in Pacolet Twp., Spartanburg County, SC, and she has evidently been widowed. The children in the house are: William (b. 1907), and Eugene (b. 1908). In 1920 Amanda is shown as the head of the household--her parents living with her in Otteray Village, Union Twp., Union County, SC. It appears as though she is divorced (the "D" is difficult to make out). However, QUEEN is the surname she is going by. And, to add to the puzzle, there are two more children living in the home: Virginia (b. 1912) and Robert (b. 1913). So who is the father of these two? Who is the father of William and Eugene QUEEN, as well??? Also living in this household (in 1920) is Allie MILLWOOD, a boarder, age 19, marked as a "M"ale, & a Mill Laborer. Any and all information is much appreciated. Thank you! Sincerely yours, Matthew LipseyOkemos, MI <<

Keep up the good work! Still looking for family - 1) Hampton Queen and Hannah Williams 2) William Queen and Rachael Anderson (Williams siblings - Hogan, John, Alfred, Phoebe, James, Lucy, Sarah, and Zilpha) 3) John Queen & Catherine Ferbrache Found on Ancestry.com during their 'free access' days a page that reflects Hampton's siblings as Henson, James and John Wesley. It also lists Hamptons parent as John Wesley Queen, and then hooks up to Henson and Sarah and then to William and Margaret Lewis. I've emailed the author and am waiting to see if they reply. (I hestitate to mention a John again?!) Anway shall sign off - happy holidays to you all again. Glenda Queen Prieba

    3. MY QUEEN COUSINS Thanks for all of the encouragement through out 1999. Most of all, THANKS for your help in supplying money to restore the QUEEN HILL CEMETERY! Seems like any number of things have hindered the progress but we are hopeing to get some firm dates soon, and begin to work. Linda had a contact with the land owner and he will work with us. There is a lot of work that require men and they are a few in number. Cleaning the overgrowth and stacking for disposal is first on the list. We have almost enough money to cover the fence material, we think. We need to get an actual footage before ordering it. The money is a savings account where both Linda and I can access it when we are ready for it. We will keep you abreast of the progress as it is done. Again, THANK YOU! We could not even begin to do it without your help. A very blessed Christmas as you celebrate this precious holiday with your families. May God bless you and yours abundantly. May 2000 be a very good year for each of you! A Queen Cousin, Dixie McCutchan

    1. Found this while surfing: Dan B. Jan 21 1998 (BRLOW2@aol.com) I'm trying to find the birthplace of my great grandfather who I think was from Cherokee NC. His name was Robert Parris, and I'm guessing, born around the 1860's. He had 6 children, James M. (my grandfather, born 25 Feb 1884), Garrison, David, Annie, Polly, and Minnie. My grandfather married Ellen Queen who was married three times (Smith, Thomas, then Parris). He always told me his name was Jimmy Crackcorn and was raised by the Cherokee in NC, but I don't know how true this was. I have checked some of the Rolls for "Queen" and "Parris" but didn't seem to match. This is an "old trail" but it may be of help to someone. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!! James B. Hardin

    1. Samuel Queen & Dicey Rolls
    2. Some of us have been exchanging opinions about the actual date of Samuel Queen's marriage to Dicey Rolls. The marriage bond vs pension papers vs probable/possible children & their birth dates, etc. I came across this and thought some of my Queen cousins might find it interesting. "When searching for marriages in North Carolina (and many other states) prior to 1868, remember it was perfectly legal to be married and have no written record of the event. North Carolina recognized marriage by publication of banns, and common law marriages were not uncommon. In some cases, a common law relationship was established and later a marriage bond was obtained and a formal marriage took place. After Reconstruction and the North Carolina Constitution of 1868, a written record should have been made and probably is preserved. " Best wishes for the holiday season for all!! James B. Hardin
