Hi all, Thanks to Reiley's Web page, it appears that Isaac Queen married Ruth Hunt on 5-24-1832 in Rutherford County, NC. Also, it appears doubtful that the Moses Queen (age 22) living with lawyer James T. Ratcliff HH# 342 in the expanded 1850 Union Co., GA census was the son of Isaac. Apparently he was the son of James C. Queen. Interesting that in 1850 Rutherford Co "Merith Queen" lived next to some Hunts. Did Isaac marry one of the Hunt girls in 1832, then head to TN in '39, then back to NC by '42 and to GA by '50? Gene
Hi all, Washington County, TN appears to be a few counties NE of Cocke Co, TN and North of North Carolina. It appears that an Isaac Queen went there about 1839 and returned after the 1840 census, but before 1842. Has anyone researched this man? Isaac Queen (b. ca 1806-1809 NC) m. Ruth (b. ca 1803-1810 NC) .....Alfred Queen (b. ca 1833 NC) m. ???Cynthia Rush (Union Co, GA 5-26-1861) .....Moses Queen (b. ca 1838 NC) .....George Queen (b. ca 1839 TN)****** .....John Queen (b. ca 1842 NC) .....Jerry Queen (b. ca 1845 NC) .....Isaac Queen (b. ca 1848 NC) 1850 and 1860 Union County, GA census reports these folks in GA. during these years. George Queen reported (on both census) as being born in TN. The 1840 Washington County, TN census lists an Isaac Queen (I do not have the age or other details). Above info suggests that Isaac was born in NC, married in NC, had two children in NC then was in TN by birth of George Queen in 1839ish, was there for 1840 census; then back to NC by 1842 and on to GA by 1850 census. Additional info from Union Co GA Web Page census data: John Queen enlisted on 8/31/1861 into B Co. 23rd Inf. Reg. GA as Pvt. Also, this Alfred Queen may have been the one who married Cynthia Rush on 5-26-1861 in Union Co. GA. Any info appreciated. Gene

I am searching for an Adam Queen (b. c1845) who married Jane Latimer/Samples (unsure as to last name as her mother was married several times)(b. c1850). They married in McMinn Co., TN. There were three issue, Alice Cordelia (b. c1884), Fred (b. c1890), and Clifford (b. ?). Jane died at a young age, so what happened to Adam? The issue were raised by sisters of Jane. Alice married James Franklin Burton and died 1968. They had a number of children who still live in the McMinn/Madison Counties in Tennessee. Alice lived near Athens, TN. Fred married (1) Minnie ?, and they had one daughter, Mae. He then married (2) Susie Hartley, and they had three children. Names unknown, but I have heard they live in northernFlorida. Clifford married Malinda ? and they lived in the Sweetwater, TN area. He is buried in Christianburg Cem. there. There was a GenForum posting by a Jerry Hamilton, who was searching for an Adam Queen who lived in the right vicinity, and would have been about the right age, but when I tried to contact him, his e-mail address was no longer correct. So, Jerry Hamilton, if you subscribe to this service, please contact me. Perhaps, together, we can find our Adam Queen. If anyone out there has an ADAM QUEEN in your database, I'd be most appreciative to hear from you. MaryBeth Penney --------------E2ABEE788F8AEA4DA92937E4--
Hi all, Thought I'd share a portion of my file regarding John Queen, son of Alfred of 1810. This is pasted from my WordPerfect file, so it will come through rather sloppily. Perhaps some non-Queen names will be of interest to some. John R. (or B.?) Queen (b. ca. 1854) John R. (or B.?) Queen, a son of Alfred Queen, was reported as John, age 15, in the 1870 Census of Jackson County in the Scotts Creek Township. The state of his birth is recorded as North Carolina. This is the first and only record of him in the Alfred Queen household on a census report. Where was John, age 5, in the 1860 census and why did his name show up in the household of Alfred in 1870? Was John actually a relative and not a son of Alfred? Did Johns dad die in the Civil War and did Alfred, his uncle or some other kinship, take him in? Or, was he a son of Alfred who was merely absent from the home at the time of the 1860 census? If so, where was he? These questions remain unanswered. (Mount Pleasant Baptist Church records report 13 children of Mary Queen, wife of Alford (Alfred). The 1860 census question remains, but this was the son of Alfred.) In the 1880 census for Scotts Creek Township is the listing for a John B. Queen, age 26, as a servant of Alexander Henry. He is just a few houses from a Samuel Queen, age 21, a servant for John Cogdill and another household with Joseph Queen, age 27, as the head. Also, nearby is the household of Lawson Dee Queen and family. All these are the sons of Alfred Queen (b. ca 1810). The Marriage Bonds of Haywood and Jackson Counties, N. C. report the marriage of a John B. Queen, age 29, to Margaret Gunter, age 29, on August 11, 1881 at Mary Gunters by Justice of the Peace S. R. Cook. Witnesses to the marriage were J. R. McKay and T. J. Love. It is reported that Margaret died at the time of birth of their one and only child, George Wilson Queen. The 1910 Caney Fork Township census of Jackson County reflects G. W. Queen as age 26, which would put his year of birth at 1883 or 1884. The Marriage Bonds of Haywood and Jackson Counties, N. C. report the marriage of a John Queen, age 31, to V(iney) Woods, age 30, on April 5, 1885 at R. H. Stephens by Justice of the Peace, R. H. Stephens. Witnesses to the marriage were C. T. Woods and D. H. Stephens. Mrs. Essie Cope Queen reported in February 1982 that John was the father of one child by his first wife, Margaret, and that there were no children of the second marriage. George Wilson Queen (b. 6-16-1883 m. 3-19-1899 d.8-15-1923) m. Sarah Parker Queen (b. 10-1-1880 d. 1965). Wilson was the only child of John and Margaret Gunter. The 1910 Caney Fork Township census of Jackson County reflects the following: G. W. Queen, age 26; Sarah, wife, age 24; Margret, daughter, age 10; Annie, daughter, age 8; Earlie, son, age 6; Dollie, daughter, age 4; Icy, daughter, age 2; and Burdell, daughter, age 6 mos. The descendants of George Wilson and Sarah Parker Queen are listed below and on the following pages along with comments from some of the family members. Margaret Queen (b. 10-26-1900 m. 10-26-1919) m. George Crawford. Writing from Sedro Wooley, Washington in 1982 after receiving a copy of the first edition of The Queen Family History, Margaret Crawford provided some additional data and shared these comments: We are the old folks now. No one our age we could get any history of. I think you have covered it all. My dad died at age 41 and Georges mother died right after we were married, so many of our relatives lived away that we didnt know of them, so we are both so glad to get this History of them. Many thanks again - if you ever happen to get to Sedro Woolly, look us up. Sincerely, George and Margaret Crawford. Descendants of Margaret and George Crawford: Kenneth Crawford (b. 8-9-1920) m. My mother and the rest of the family referred to that relationship. I have an idea Wilson Queens father was named John Robert Queen, and along the way someones called him Bob. Just guessing on my part about this, but never heard him called anything except John R. Queen. Thats what my mother called him as well as the rest. There were four of the Gunter girls. Dollie Gunter married Mack McKay, Margaret Gunter married John R. Queen, Nancy Gunter married Towers Fisher and Dorcas married a Love. My mother, Alice Gunter Cope born May 12, 1877, died Jan 26, 1971...age 93, knew all those folks back there, and I can remember Mr. McKay very well..seen him many times. He still has descendants living in Haywood County and a grandson, James Samuel, living at Ochre Hill. All our children were born in Jackson County except for Elaine, who was born in Canton. Uncle Joe and Aunt Jane Queen had a son, Alfred Queen, that worked on the railroad riding the hand car they used to check the railroad tracks at the time. The train struck and killed him in about 1925 in Henderson County. Wilks Queen was reared in the Moses Creek area of the county. Hi all, In a previous msg, I stated that I wouldn't post this so soon after the Dec 16 post; but in response to a few inquiries to me, I am posting again. I do not have a web site and I do not have the data in FTM type database. My data is in wordprocessor files by head of family. My research practices include: a) collecting and documenting data concerning the Alfred Queen of 1810 family, b) collecting data regarding other Queens to keep the data somewhat organized and separated from Alfred's family....but constantly looking for links from others to "my" Alfred, c) searching for siblings and ancestors of Alfred. Whenever I read a post to this list, I generally delete it immediately if it's just a name or two with no reasonable hope of tying the name in with other Queens. If the post contains a number of names, dates, locations, etc. then I can usually tell at a glance when that researcher is working a line which ties in with my research. I respond to the researcher with appropriate data. The researcher wins with new data and I win with another link or the name of another researcher working my line. So, if anyone posts data to the list which contains the names of 3, 4 or more Queens born after 1850, I can fairly quickly determine if that line descends from Alfred of 1810....and I will respond. The "old" subscribers to this list have been most generous in "flooding" this list with data and in working to help each other. Speaking only for myself, and in all kindness, I believe that it is the responsibility of "new" subscribers to provide significant data which will allow one to quickly determine if we have a link to your Queens. Hope the following data will help someone link to Alfred of 1810. If you find a link, then there's more data supporting this outline, so please get back with me if you wish: Researching following and will share info with descendants of this line: Probable dad of Samuel listed below: Joseph Queen (b. ca 1740-50)..appears on Haywood Co, NC census of 1830. Hi all, Couldn't help but notice Jimmy Redmond's post concerning Joseph B. Queen of GA who was apparently born prior to 1834. Jimmy, do you have the name of Joseph's dad? Here's my line of thinking concerning two Haywood County Queens of 1820/30: If Joseph (b. ca 1740) was the pa of Samuel (b. ca 1776), then Samuel probably had a brother, Joseph. Where is he? If Samuel (b. ca 1776) was the pa of Alfred of 1810 and James H. of 1808, then he likely named one of his other sons Samuel and one Joseph. Where are they? Alfred had sons Joseph, Samuel, James Henry, John B and others. James H. had sons Samuel and John. Possible that Samuel Queen of 1776 or some of the children/siblings went to Ga or elsewhere about 1839-1840 when Alfred went to TN. Also, as I understand, 1838 was the year of the Cherokee Indian removal from the NC mountains. Did that somehow play into some movement of Queens? Gene

Thanks to Bob Niota for posting his data to the Queen List. I want to correct one persistent incorrect bit of information that is in his material. He shows both Moses and Meredith Queen as sons of William Lewis Queen, and that Moses Queen married Jane Newton. This is incorrect. Meredith Queen, not Moses, married Jane Newton, daughter of Benjamin Newton. There is a marriage bond for this couple dated 1797 in Rutherford Co., NC. This marriage bond, available from the NC State Archives, has been mis-catalogued due to the difficult handwriting, as a bond for Meredith Queen and Jane WEDEN. But careful comparison of Jane's name (as written) and that of the surety, written by the clerk, shows them to look identical. But the surety signed the bond in his own handwriting, and his name is CLEARLY written Benjamin NEWTON. (I have a photocopy of the actual record, and will be glad to send anyone a copy who wants one, to see for themselves) No offense is meant to Bob. I believe that we all want the most accurate information possible, and I am sure that my data has errors and misinterpretations too. I offer this response in that spirit, and welcome comments from others, if they think I am incorrect here. One other minor problem I saw in Bob's data - the wife of William Lewis Queen, Sr. (the Rev. War veteran, for whom a rejected pension claim is available) was MARGARET (?Meredith). They evidently married in GA, and no marriage record has been found. I've thought in the past that the SON of this couple, William Lewis Queen Jr., married Mary Orr. The reason for this is that in 1822, a Margaret Queen acted as administrator for the estate of Mary Orr (apparently her mother) AND also for the estate of William L. Queen. BUT William L. Queen, Sr., was living in 1834, when he applied for his Rev. War pension from Macon Co., NC. So most of us have thought that the William L. who died by 1822 was the SON of Rev. War William L. Queen. Can anyone shed light on this dilemma? I have a large document on the Internet outlining all known material on the Queens of NC, 1750-1850, which you can visit, and review by name. I couldn't figure out how to get the footnotes in the document easily, but if you see something and want to know the source, just e-mail me, and I'll send you the corresponding source material. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2864/ Regards, Reiley Kidd Seattle
Hi all, Don't wish to give anyone the wrong impression. I'm not on any particular Queen trail at this time. Two points: 1. I have probably researched the descendants of Alfred Queen of 1810 as far as I will go. Neither a boast nor a complaint, but I have something over 2,000 names of blood descendants and spouses of descendants. Will share pertinent data with anyone researching this line. 2. I believe it probable, that Samuel Queen (b. ca 1776) and on the Haywood Co, NC census of 1820/30 was Alfred's dad. Equally probable is that James H. Queen of 1808 who m. Isabella Bryson was Alfred's brother. Also possible, maybe probable, that Joseph Queen of 1830 Haywood was Alfred's grandpa. So??? I'm trying to rule OUT those Queens who would NOT be siblings or aunts/uncles of Alfred and James. I'm also trying to determine if research has been completed or is underway for folks who MAY be the sibilings/aunts/uncles of Alfred. Then I will select a few remaining Queens as candidates for my continuing research. It's my belief that everyone wins as we research and share our findings. Now, it's time for me to be silent except when I have data to post or a question to ask. So, I'll get back to work with this final comment: If there's anyone on this list who has not shared with the list their key links to Queens, then you are missing out on opportunities to a) possibly obtain data from others which would help you in your research or b) assist others in their research. (Links to Alfred of 1810 were posted less than 60 days ago, so I won't bore folks with another post at this time.) Happy hunting to all, Gene
I know that Joseph B. Queen was in Ga. at this time, possible Gilmer County. He was married in Walton County, Ga in 1854. He's my great-great-great-grand father. He is buried no more than a rock throwing distance from his old place which still stands today. He set aside land where he was buried for all his descendants to be buried. The cemetery is located just outside of Monroe, Ga. on Queen Cemetery Road and is named "QUEEN CEMETERY" . Jimmy Redmond jredmondsr@aol.com
What Queens are in GA around 1846??? Thanks, Princess
ARTICLE FROM THE QUEEN FAMILY EARLY HISTORY & FAMILY TREE (zd ed,evidently very different from 1st ed) by Stephen Post Queen (b. 1848) et al. Reddsville, C 1942 CSTI. a3 1942 The Early History of the Family Tree Part 3 This immediate branch of the McQueen Family was a citizen of Tipperrary County of Ireland, and Charles McQueen was a private in the English Army and an honored magistrate of his native County, but according to the ruling of the English Parliament, no one of Scotch or Irish name could rank as a Commissioned Officer. So in order to receive this Commission, Charles McQueen had to drop the prefix Mc from his original name, and became an English Officer under the name of just CHARLES QUEEN. He was said to be a man of commanding presence and courage and discretion in the execution of his Official Trust, and by virtue of his New Official Position, and by an act of the English. Parliament. he was entitled to enter free of cost, (1 400) acres of land in the Virginia Colony of America, while a private citizen or soldier of England, could only enter (400) acres. Now this is how, we as a people got the name of just QUEEN. We find there are quite a number of emigrants coming to America from Ireland by the name of McQueen and McQuinn, and they tell us there are no people in Ireland by the name of just QUEEN. Now it was for this purpose of availing himself of entering the (1400) acres of land in America that caused CHARLES QUEEN and hia young wife to come to America, in or near (1750), and they wended their. way into this section of the Virginia Colony. in Harrison County of America, and located a homestead on the Water, of Gnatty Creek at the mouth of Peeltree, a stream of (4) miles in length, and selected land, later owned by Old Judge Edwin Sc Dunkin and at present owned by Porter Maxwell, and Ira Post heirs. Whether CHARLES QUEEN entered the full (1400) acres of land or not, is not known, If he rook our a Patten for the (1400) acres of land, it should have been recorded n the Clerks Office (for Parrens), in Richmond Virginia, and this all came about before the Revolutionary War. There was a son born in 1752 ro CHARLES QUEEN and his young wife while they were here in America, and was given the name of CHARLES QUEEN, JR., and they did nor remain here for long in America, but returned to England, and CHARLES QUEEN, SR., soon died, and as it wau the law of that country that the parents of children had to give their sons a trade of some kind, the mother of CHARLES QUEEN, JR. bound him out to the weavers trade, and when he had served his time at his trade, he then had to serve a time in the English army, so when he had reached his majority, and was a free man. he longed and desired to see the land of his birth, in America. so the son. CHARLES QUEEN, JR., returned to America in or near the year (I 770). and rook possession of the old homestead on Gnatty Creek at the mouth of Peeltree. At this time he was not married, but soon did marry Miss May Haley in 1 1773. a native of that country, and to this union or family tree, sprang (9) branches or children into the First Gen-eration consisting of (6) sons and (3) daughters. namely John (born in 1776). Armstcad (horn in 1777), Levi (born in 1779), Cornelius (born in 1782). (died in 1866). Charles (born in 1790). William (born ). Daughters: Sarah H. (born in 1780). Mary (born in 1783) died in 1828, Elizabeth (born in 1786.) CHARLES QUEEN. Gene, The census for all counties for 1800 TN were lost. (urgh!) The census for all counties for 1810 TN 'except' Rutherford & some of Grainger are all lost. (double urgh!) Then you have the famous "Walker Line" to deal with too if your ancestors were on the TN/KY border! Read this: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ky/Tips?read=58 found on: http://www.rootsweb.com/~kypulask/map.html (i know this is KY but i found this great info looking for someone in KY) http://www.tngenweb.org/queries/east-tn.htm http://www.tngenweb.org/queries/mid-tn.htm These will all help in Early TN research. Without peeking at a map, I'm guessing that they are/were. (John Queen, 1816 is mine.) Gayle Cantrell gpcantrell@home.com What's my line? My recent posting in SC-Old Pendleton District-Digest: "Hello folks. I've been observing the list for a few weeks now, and I'm ready to throw caution to the wind and jump right in. I'm afraid I have little to offer at this time except a few family surnames and a little sketchy history. ARVE: I descend directly from August ARVE, b. 12/14/1831, Berlin Stadt, Brandenburg, Preussen. (Personally, I think the name is Norwegian in origin, perhaps a derivation of Arvesen/son or even Jacobsen/son.) Based upon other researchers information, I presume his father's name to be Jacob; beyond that, I know nothing. Augustus Arve m. (date unknown) Fredrika (Arika) Weza (Weizer?) b. 3/19/1834, Amsterdam, , Netherlands, in Dahlonega, Lumpkin, GA. Somewhere among the "South Carolina Arve's", there is a sizable enlargement of a photograph of Augustus in Confederate uniform. Since his first child was born in 1859, and his last in 1881, he clearly survived the war. Both Agustus and Fredrika are buried in Westminster, Oconee, SC. (I have a photograph of myself beside their gravestones when I was 12 years old.) At some point in time that I have yet to determine, their 2nd son, Otto Edmond Arvey, migrated to Macon County, NC. Otto's 2nd son, John Haskell ARVEY (note the change in spelling) is my maternal grandfather. CALER: I am also descended from Jacob CALER, also of Macon County. I'm afraid I can't be very clear about this next part, so any leads would be welcomed. There is a connection between one Robert and Rebecca Caler and my Jacob Caler. Robert and Rebecca are believed to have been residents in the OPD. They were most certainly of the Baptist faith. HICKEY: Jacob Caler's daughter, Eva, married John HICKEY. John Hickey's mother was Sarah (Sally) Bryson b. 1780-84 and she married Mr. _________ Hickey ~1790-97 in PENDLETON DISTRICT, SC. Mr. Hickey died ~ 1800-1810 in Haywood County, NC. QUEEN: John W. Queen, Jr. m. Martha HICKEY, John & Eva's only child together. Eva presumably died as a result of childbirth-related causes. At the age of 45, John Queen enlisted in NC 39th Infantry, Company I. He died on 6/3/1863, while hospitalized in Lumpkin Hospital, Rome, GA. I am very nearly certain that he is buried in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Rome, GA, but there are no dates on the C.S.A. marker which would offer more conclusive proof. His wife, Martha (Patsy) Hickey Queen's grave remains elusive. Now, perhaps I haven't studied the map closely enough, but there sure seems to be some familial coincidences here...? Hi all, As Mandy and I are both researching the same James C. Queen, I decided I didn't need to repeat the info she has already provided. However, to explain, we have dug and dug for the father of James and the very likely candidate is John Queen who married Mary Campbell in Maury Co. The John in Franklin Co., has children who also fit the profile of our James Campbell Queen (b. May 7,1819 in either TN or GA) and his sister Elizabeth Ann (b. July 4,1820 in Mississippi). 1820 Franklin Co., TN Jno Queen: 3 m-10 (James would have been 1yr.), 1m 10-16, 1m 16-26, 1m 45+; 2f -10 (Elizabeth would have been a few months), 3f 10-26, 2f 16-26, 1f 45+ James and Elizabeth would have been the last two children born to John and Mary (Campbell) Queen. James' middle name being Campbell is an absolute. This comes from some of his grandchildren in several of the different families of his children. Also, we have a great uncle named James Campbell Queen, who was named for his grandfather, so I have that straight from a direct relative of ours. There are numerous James Campbell Queens scattered throughout the tree that branches from James Campbell the son of John and Mary (Campbell) Queen. On the death cert. of James son William Maddox Queen, it list's Williams father as J.C. Queen born in Georgia. However, on the census it lists James C's place of birth as TN. I am more likely to think that he was born in TN, but why would a grandson of James C. think his grandfather was born in Georgia, unless there were other relations in Georgia. This is what has me thinking that James C. is part of that group that at one time or another was in Georgia. There is alot of speculation on which family our John Queen came from, but there are so many John Queens in that time frame, it became mind boggling and until we can find some kind of conclusive evidence I imagine it will remain a mystery. I also don't know how our family ended up in TN. Unless they were just adventurous. If John was heading west from North Carolina, he would have gone through Franklin Co., a little north to Maury, then west again to Wayne Co., where John remained, as well as son James. Wayne Co., TN, is very mountainous, sheer cliffs and not very much farmland at all. I understand why most of the boys of James Campbell Queen left Tenn. They almost all headed west to MO or Western Tenn. where there is more farmland. Anyway, I'm with Mandy in that I too would give anything to find out the answer to our John Queen's parents.
