Some of us have been back into the GA lines for several days and I wanted to follow-up on the Alfred and Susan of 1850 Union Co., GA. The "Expanded" version of that census shows Susan as Susan Brotherton HH#205. Does this seem correct? It seems like reasonable clues. Reiley's webpage contains some detail concerning an Alfred, son of David Queen of Iredell Co., NC including: 7-25-1837 (I believe that this is a typo and should be 1827???) marriage bond in Wilkes Co., NC for Alfred Queen and Susan Brotherton. 1830 Richmond Co., NC census: Alfred age 20<29, female age 20<29 and others. 1840 Iredell, NC census: Alfd Queen, pg 230 no details. (I will check it out) Then in 1850 Union Co., GA HH205 we have (Living 12 houses from Queen Hix): Alfred-42NC Susan-44NC Caroline-12NC Caloway-10NC Thomas-7NC MaryAnn-5NC 1860 Union Co HH133 (Living 4 houses from Lewis Queen, a descendant of Samuel and Dicy Queen): Alfred-49NC Susan-53NC Bugh C.-20NC (Probably a typo and should be Hugh) Thomas M.-17NC Mary A.-15NC
Hi all, I understand that it is permissible to have more than one "conversation" going at the time on this list. I do hope that the recent exchanges of info will continue. It's great to see "new" members active. It is appreciated. Alfred Queen.....within the past week I received some info regarding an Alfred J. Queen who had "my" Alfred's kids. The kind lady asked if I wished her to correct the data and I suggested not at my request. I also know that the Alfred J. has had "my" Alfred's kids in some other databases. Been researching this a bit and here's the scoop: Alfred Queen (b. ca 1810) was in Cocke Co., TN in 1840 with folks in the household not yet identified (and perhaps never will be). Also in Cocke Co., TN in 1850 with wife (or new wife) Mary (age 24) and children: James H. Queen, age 2 and Martha, age 7/12. He returned to NC in 1851 or 52 and by 1860 was in Jackson County with children (partial list): Martha, Joseph, John, Arta (age 12). Alfred Queen-age 35....different man...was on Burke Co., NC census pg 399 family 934 in 1850 (while my Alfred was in TN) with wife, Martha-age35 and children: Mary-11, Lilly-9, James-7, John-6 and Sarah-3. So, I am prepared to state that these are two different Alfreds. Other clues concerning this Alfred of Burke. Per Reiley's database, Burke marriage bond on 2-7-1839 for Alfred J. Queen and Martha E. H. Jeffreys. 1840 Rutherford census pg 305 includes an Alfred Quean age 20-29 with female same age range and another female <5. Again, this fits the profile of Alfred of Burke. Anyone who has these children improperly matched with Alfreds may wish to consider the above evidence and make corrections as needed. Gene

Hi Stevie, I have just posted my Queen family file to QUEEN-L and it lists the individuals you mentioned. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the parents of Elizabeth Brackett, wife of Meraday Queen. I will post my Brackett file next. Hi Cousins, i have an issac Queen in this line also, born abt1825-30 probably Cleveland Co, not sure. He was married in Cleveland Co, NC to Lucinda Towery and died in 1901 McDowell Co, NC His father was Charles Queen my gggggrandfather. His Children were; John A b-1852, Thomasa Lawson, b-1853, Joseph P., b-1855, Martha E., b- 1858, Mary Jane, b- 1859, Margaret C., b-1864, Dock P., b-1866, Susan A., b-1868, Phronis C., b-1869 and Alice Petima, b- 1871. This is what i got from my cousin years ago, i thought i had posted it when we all started posting our line. I thought ya'll alreadt had this. I hope it helps, if you need anything else let me know, that's what us cousins are about, Roger
Hi cousins, i got this info a few years back from a cousin in Cleveland County. Don't have any proof. Pleasant's father was James Queen, b-abt 1777 in Wilkes Co, GA and d- in Rutherford Co, NC . Mother was Sarah Jones, b- 1785, d- 1860. Jamesis the son of William Lewis, Sr. Pleasant's siblings were Mary,b- 1801, Letty, b- 1815, Alfred J., b-1817, Richard Meridath, b-1817, James Jamison, b-1818 and Hamilton. I thought Reiley would have this, were in the same line, Roger
I absolutely do not wish to throw any cold water on current list activities. I love it when this list is active...especially with new researchers and new data. However, I have been digging in the wrong files regarding Pleasant and Martha. Much of the data I'm chipping away with has already been researched by others as I rediscovered when I went to the "right" file. Here's the highlights of what I have on Pleasant (corrections/additions always welcome): Wm. Lewis Queen, Sr. (b. ca 1749) .....James Queen (b. ca 1777 in Wilkes Co., GA d. 3-22-1845 Rutherford Co.NC) .........Pleasant Queen (b. ca 1810) m. Martha Loyd (b. ca 1809) ..............Children as noted in recent posts. The last name of Martha and the marriage info was unknown to me until Diane's post, so I certainly received benefit from recent activities on the list. But, evidence suggests that Pleasant is not my line, so I defer to others regarding this research. I've gotta stay somewhat focused. But, please keep on a truckin! Okay, Reiley, are you sure you don't have a slot for Isaac Queen in your line? I still want to know who "Mrs. Betsy Queen" was....but, perhaps not as much as you. : ) Gene
Hi all, Looking for parents of Pleasant Queen. Summary of known data (anyone feel free to add or correct): Pleasant Queen (b. ca 1807-1810 NC) married "Miss Martha Loyd" in Union Co., GA on 5-23-1839). Apparently the ones on 1840 Union Co., GA census, pg 6 #134, 1850 Union Co., GA census HH#913 and 1870 Williamson Co., TX census HH#620 with son (James) living in #621. 1850 Union Co: Pleasant Queen (b. ca 1810) Martha (b. ca 1809) Louisa (b. ca 1835) James M. (b. ca 1840) Sarah (b. ca 1841) William J. (b. ca 1842) Willborn (b. ca 1843) Pleasant (b. ca 1846) Millyan (b. ca 1848) Question (due to marriage date only?) as to whether Louisa is daughter of Martha. (Could it be that Louisa was openly acknowledged as their dau, including using the Queen name; before they were married? Just took Pleasant a few years to tie the knot? Also, were common law marriages legal in GA in 1835?) Where were these folks in 1860? Note suggests that a Pleasant was in Whitfield Co., GA in 1860. Also a James M. Queen and William J. Queen entered CW from Whitfield Co., GA in 1862. Is the 1860 Whitfield census online anywhere? Anyone have the data? Share? Thanks, Gene
Hi Stevie and all, This James seems to fit the profile of the one listed in HH78 (Marida and Elizabeth Queen) living next door to HH77 (James and Sally Queen) of the 1870 Union Co, Blairsville census. I believe that Jerry Dyer is working that line. C'mon on in and shine a bit of light for us if you will, Jerry. Thanks, Gene Stevie Powell wrote: > Betty Knight-Eugene Queen and others, > This is one Queen that I don't remember seeing any information on. Betty Knight-Eugene Queen and others, This is one Queen that I don't remember seeing any information on. I have a copy of a death certificate for a James Franklin Queen born June 20. 1865 in Blairsville, Georgia. He died October 27, 1938 in Union County. His parents are listed as Merida Queen and Elizabeth Brackett. Can someone tell me who this Elizabeth Brackett is the daughter of? The death certificate states parents born Georgia, but I don't find a marriage record in Union County. Also maybe this will hgelp someone else. Stevie Lou Powell

Hi Diane and all, Regarding Diane's finding that: Pleasant and Martha had been married for 11 years at the time of 1850 census so it appears she is not the mother of Louisa. ...Well, I think I'll just go and pout. On the other hand, perhaps I'll just work harder and be more careful in using the expanded version of the Union County census. Thank you, Diane. In any event, the Fannin County cemetery seems to hold some clues....and the question remains, who is the Mary Queen, age 60, from NC in the household of Henry and Louisa Huffman HH#417, 1860 Fannin Co census? Thanks, Gene

Hi Eugene, Just happened to come across a marriage record for Pleasant while doing research in Blairsville on Thursday. Recorded in Union Co. Marriage Book 1A; page 7, it reads: Lisons[sic] recorded granted to Plesent[sic] Quin and Miss Martha Loyd granted by J.M. Roberts (letters following name are illegible). Solemnized by A. Chastain, J.P. on May the 23 day 1839 Granted May 21 day 1839 David W. Hawkins C.C.O Pleasant and Martha had been married for 11 years at the time of 1850 census so it appears she is not the mother of Louisa. Sorry, I stopped too soon with the previous msg. 1860 Fannin Co., GA census lists: 417 Huffman, Henry 30 NC Louisa 25 NC Eddy N. 2 GA Samuel 1 GA Queen, Mary 60 NC So, Louisa Queen Huffman named her second son Samuel. Apparently, she didn't have a brother Samuel, so what's the source? Also, the age of the Mary Queen is the same age I have for her mother, "Martha". Was her mother Mary or Martha?? Ideas? Gene
