    3. Hi Gene et al! I am interested in the George W. Queen listed in the 1900 census info you posted. Supposedly, there is a connection between my ggf, Hinsey Jonas, and this family. (This info obtained in the 1980s from a granddaughter of GWQ, a daughter of Jasper H. and Sarah Kimsey. They called my ancestor Uncle Jonas, but she thought he was probably a cousin.) Does anyone know if the John S. Queen, William H. Queen, and George W. Queen were brothers? In the GWQ household, Martha E. Queen is listed as MOTHER of 10 children. I believe George's father was Steven and John S. is John Steven. However, year of birth for GWQ is 1850, John S. 1871, and for William H. 1875. That means if Martha is the mother of all three, she would have been 21 when GWQ was born and 46 when William H. was born. I recently reviewed a list of Cherokee County Delayed Birth Certificates and it contains some of the names from the 1900 census listing. There are also a number of variations in the Father/Mother listings; for example, John Queen/Lodie Huskins are listed several times with births from 1892 through 1907 and you can track those pre-1900 entries on the census listing. However, John Queen/Lodie Huskins are also John Steven Queen/Mary Lodie Huskins. You see similar variations with William Harvey Queen/Lottie Huskins, William Hardy Queen/Charlotte Huskins and William Queen/Lottie Huskin. There is also listed a Rans Queen/Dora Huskins, but I think that is probably the son of GWQ b. 2-1884 as listed on the 1900 census. Just a few thoughts over my Saturday morning coffee ;-) Rita Queen Bartmess

    1. [QUEEN] Candiss Queen Clark
    2. Angela Rhodes
    3. Hi ' My name is Chris and I am new to the list. I hope this posting is not inappropriate but if you will bare with me it will explain itself. I was told by another Queen list member that I should give it a try. I am searching for parents and ancestors of Candice Queen Clark (maybe Candiss). She was born in NC about 1814 and was married to Robert Rhodes, Oct. 27, 1837. She is listed in the 1850 Orange Co.,N.C. census with 5 children: Francis, 12; William, 10; Eliza, 8; Teresa, 4; and Alexander, 2. I have been unable to come up with anyhthing searching under the Clark surname . I hope by chance that Candiss' middle name Queen might be her mothers maiden name and that someone might have info on a Queen female that married a male Clark with a child Candiss. I know its a long shot but am running out of any kind of lead on her parents. Any and all leads, suggestions, or information will be very much appreciated. Contact me at angela@cocentral.com Thanks, Chris

    1. [QUEEN] POP QUIZ! Who was Simion Queen's mother-in-law?
    2. Gayle Cantrell
    3. I would like to publicly thank Missi, whose name I have been repeatedly been misspelling, for her jaunt to Rome, GA a few months back. Her efforts helped to identify the grave of my 3rd Great Grandfather, John W. QUEEN, Jr., C.S.A., 1816-1863. Thanks to Melessia, I'm 99% certain it is his. There's also a Mean Old Coot on this list who has, from time to time, infused a challenging spirit which I have found to be both enlightening and amusing. Several others of you have contributed enormously to my meager efforts in compiling my lateral line data, and particularly my collateral lines. Many leaves on the tree have been falling into place. Alas! So many ancestors, so little time! And THANK YOU MANDY for coordinating! I am often humbled (sometimes intimidated) by the massive amount of effort and research so many of you have done. I only hope that I have, and can continue to, contribute to all here. Over the past year, I have "met" quite a number of very kind individuals through a variety of genealogical forums. Some are "new" cousins, and interestingly enough, some of the "old" ones whom I knew as a youngster have contacted me after finding some of my postings in Genealogy Cyberville. What a kick! 3. Excerpted from "Tennessee Cousins", A History of Tennessee People, by Worth S. Ray, Author of "The Lost Tribes of North Carolina", Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., Baltimore 1984 "One of the most enlightening pages in the early history of ROANE COUNTY is found in the list of soldiers who enlisted in the company of CAPT. URIAH ALLISON, in 1812. Mrs. Wells in her "history of Roane County" (PP 33-34) says that the men & boys gathered about the fifers and drummers in front of the courthouse at Kingston, where bright new silver dollars were spread out on the head of the drum, and every man who came forward and picked up a dollar became a volunteer in the war of 1812. The information about each volunteer is priceless. They were:...THOMAS HIBBERTS, aged 23, 6 ft 2 in. born in PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (This Patrick County squirrel hunter, was a big boy.)...WILLIAM QUEEN, aged 19, 5 ft. 10 in. born in BURKE COUNTY, N. C." Best regards, Gayle Cantrell gpcantrell@home.com What's my line?
