Hi all, Reiley, it's not possible to thank you enough for the data you've compiled on your webpage at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2864/ Warning: Everyone press delete now unless you wish to take a wild ride through an assortment of roots and branches. Now, let's pretend that Isaac Queen of ca 1806-1809 and Reiley's George Queen were BROTHERS (instead of father/son) and that their pa was Richard Queen. Then let's see what develops. .....I'm picking Richard Queen for Isaac because Richard is the only one who fits the bill in BOTH 1810 and 1830 Rutherford IF Isaac was born in Rutherford and lived at home (wherever home was) until his marriage in Rutherford in 1832. I'm also picking Richard because Riley suggests that his age COULD fit as pa of George, and because the statement of a family relationship between Isaac and George may be family folklore...which is close to reality, but relationships off just a bit. (Of course Alfreds and Samuels are always on my mind as well.) Here's some of Reiley's compilation of data dealing with Richard Queen and others. I've put some of Reiley's names in all caps and inserted/deleted some data......so......go to Reiley's page to get the unedited, unaltered, "gospel" version of his data. My inserts begin with *. * 1766-1784 Richard Queen born Richard Queen 1796 - Rutherford Co., NC marriage bond for Richard Queen and Margaret Snider"of Lincoln Co.", dated 3-27-1796. Surety were William White and Benjamin Wilkinson, wigtnessed by D. Camp. Richard signed with an "X". 1803 - a Timothy Queen claimed 100 acres in Lincoln Co., NC Oct. 5 (Entry # 1847). A RICHARD Queen claimed 40 acres there Oct. 24 (Entry # 1851). 1803 - buys from Burkel Snider 176 acres on Buffalo Creek, Lincoln Co., NC. [There are THREE Buffalo Creeks in present-day Lincoln Co. and that part of Cleveland Co. that was formed from Lincoln Co. in 1841. One is in NE Cleveland Co. just west of the county line separating it from Lincoln and Gaston Counties, WNW from Cherryville; another flows into this one, from SW Lincoln Co. Both these are quite close to the land owned by William Lewis Queen Sr. and his son Meredith Queen. The other Buffalo Creek is in SE Cleveland Co., W of Kings Mountain, NC, and flows S. into Cherokee Co., SC] *1806-1809 Isaac Queen born in NC 1810 - Richard Queen is on Rutherford Co., NC federal census, p. 429 - age 26-45 [32010-31200- no slaves-$100/50]. *Isaac may be one of the males <10 *1810 Here are all the Queens who were head of households on Rutherford census: Those with at least one male child less than age 10 in the household are denoted with an *. (Isaac Queen would have been about 1-4). *Hugh Queen, Sr. *Hugh Queen *Richard Queen (Household of 12 persons and he owned real estate $100) William Queen, Jr. *William Queen, Sr. 1820 - federal census in Buncombe Co. NC, shows the following: p. 117 - Richard Quene age 45 and older (620001-01111). *This Richard's children don't fit? 1830 - (*Richard Queen is..) on the federal census for Rutherford Co. NC (10141001-12001001), along with "George Quinn" and William A. Queen. Both are old enough to be GEORGEs father (William A. may be the married man, age 20-29, in this latter household, with an elderly single man 70-79 there as well). (*Richard Queen is the ONLY Head of Household Queen on 1830 who would fit the bill as father of Isaac, if Isaac was still in the household. OEQ) *1832-05-24 Isaac Queen married Ruth Hunt in Rutherford County; witnessed by Jos. Taylor, surety JOSEPH G. DEVENEY. *1833 Isaac's son, Alfred, is born somewhere in NC. *1838-11-6 Isaac's son, George Washington Queen is born in Washington Co., TN *1840 Isaac Queen is listed on Washington Co., TN census. 1840 - the Lincoln Co. NC federal census includes RICHARD Quin and Elias Quin, p. 54 (*Is this the Elias who names one of his sons, Alfred?...perhaps after "brother" Isaac's? See 1844-45 below); John Quin, p. 65; Rev. Hugh L. Quin, p. 66; "James Qunn" p. 103, and GEORGE Quinn, p. 108. *1842 Isaac's son, John Queen born somewhere in NC * 1844-45 (I've included only part of Reiley's names, thus the *. OEQ) - an undated petition to the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, urging the formation of a new county, Sevier County, from parts of Cleveland, Rutherford, Burke, Catawba and Lincoln Counties, included the following (some appear to have signed more than once): pt. 1: Jamiason Queen, RICHARD Queen, A.J. DEVENEY; Pt. 11 - William Queen, Daniel Melton, Jenkins DEVINEY, Alaxander Goen; pt. 14 - Merrady Queen, George Newton, ISAC Quen. Not dated, this petition was filed (perhaps incorrectly) with other records from the 1844-1845 Session of the General Assembly. The idea was never accepted or enacted. *1845 Isaac's son, Jerry Queen is born somewhere in NC. *1847 Isaac's son, Isaac, Jr. born somewhere in NC. *1850 Union County, GA census; Isaac and family listed. Also on 1860 and 1870 Union. 1850 - The Rutherford Co. NC census includes (Twp = Whitesides Sett), there are Medith Queen (p. 287), Richard Queen (288), and William Queen (291). This Richard Queen is age 35, b. NC with wife Ruth 22F, Rebecca 6F, and Mary 6/12, all b. NC. This Richard could not read nor write. Next door on one side is A.I. DEVINEY, 32M and wife Rachal, age 30; on the other is William Grason, 36, and wife Cristina, 34. Other Grason/Grayson and Melton families are in the area. In another cluster (also Twp = Whitesides Sett) are Richard Queen (p. 345) and Daniel and James (p. 343) and Edward and Thomas (p. 344) Upton. THIS Richard is 39M laborer, b. NC, with wife Ruth 26F, Mary 9/12, and Rebecca SISK, age 8, all b. NC. 1860 - Rutherford Co. federal census, p. 613, First Broad settlement: RICHARD QUEEN, age 94, born in NC (therefore b. 1765-66). (*But, born 1770-1780 if date on 1830 Rutherford is for the same Richard Queen. OEQ) No other Queens are in his household, but B.E. Rollins 35M Bapt. minister and his wife Mary 24F are there. Next door is ELIAS Queen 44M cooper, b. NC, no real estate, could read, along with wife Mary 44F, ALFRED 15M, Elvira 13F, Thomas 12M, Laura 10F, Elias 9M, Mary 7F, and Wm 2M. (*Is Elias the son of Richard and brother to Isaac and did both the sons name one of their sons "Alfred"?). ***Pause. But, we cannot forget Hugh Queen and a "bunch" of other folks. I may have mixed some of these up...So Reiley's page remains the primary reference. 1825 - Hugh QUINN came from York Co. SC to Lincoln and Catawba Counties, as a pioneer Baptist preacher, and was "one of the most useful missionaries." He emigrated to Georgia in 1834 ( *Also Samuel Queen of 1820 and 1830 Haywood, with a probable son Alfred vanished from Haywood after the 1830 census. OEQ), and was sent with letters of recommendation from the South Fork (Baptist) Association. He lived first at Ellis (formerly Quinns Ferry on the Broad River in Cleveland Co., and later 1.5 miles W of Lincolnton, NC. Was said to have been "probably the first Baptist to preach regularly at Lincolnton." Hugh Queen of Rabun Co. GA 1827 - Wilkes Co. NC will of Joseph Queen dated 18 Sept. 1827 names "Beloved wife Martha,....my four beloved sons Elis Queen, Francis Queen, James Queen, and Hugh Queen," dividing his land (400 acres) between them all, "any time after Elis arrives to the age of 21 years." Also names "my four beloved daughters Jane, Margret, Elizabeth and Attarminetta, giving them his other two tracts of land (325 acres). Names his "worthy friend Hosea Redman" his executor. Witnessed by Howell Barker Jr. and Thomas Brotherton. Joseph signed his name. This will was proven Oct. Term 1827. This Hugh seems to be the one later in GA (see 1855, below). 1850 - is on the federal census for Rabun Co., GA, age 42, b. NC, along with wife Elizabeth, age 38, b. SC, and children Martha J. - 15F, John 12M, James C. 10M, Josephine 7F, Andrew M.N. 5M, Nancy M 2F, and Edmond P. 1M. also on this census is William Queen (family 173), Hugh Queen, 42M b. NC (family # 231), Samuel Queen, 70M b. GA (#174), and Spence Queen, 27M b. NC (#147) - Hugh Queen drawn for jury duty Jan. 7, 1850, for February term; sworn to serve July term. 1855 - Wilkes Co., NC deed dated 19 Sept. 1855, Hugh Queen and Martha his wife ackowledged the sale of their share of the land of Hillory Gilreath on the Brushy Mtns on Fishing Creek, made in Milligeville, GA. 1855 - Samuel Queen is among those named (along with Elizabeth Queen "and her minor children"), probably the wife of Hugh Queen, who seems to have died or been absent) as owning land through which the Blue Ridge Railroad will run. The court charged commissioners to establish valuation for the right-of-way through these lands. Later was paid $65 for the strip of land; states her land (and that of Samuel Queen) was in Lot 63 in 2nd district of Rabun Co. 1856 - July Term of Rabun Co. GA County Court charges several men, including Hiram Gibson, "chosen by Mrs. Elizabeth Queen and Hugh Queen her husband in the fixing the compensation to be paid to the said Elizabeth Queen and her children" for a change in the route of the Rabun Turnpike Road across her property in lot #62 of the 2nd district of Rabun Co. The court ordered that "any moneys allowed as such compensation be paid over to said Hugh Queen, to be held by him for the use and benefit of the said Elizabeth Queen and her children." Later were paid $115, August 1856. 1857 - Hugh M. Queen drawn for jury duty in Rabun Co., GA, June Term. 1858 - Hugh M. Queen and E.H. Queen (Elizabeth, Hughs wife) deed to William A. Carr land in Rabun Co., GA, apparently road rights. Witnessed by J.W. Queen and Cincinnatus Taylor, recorded 25 Oct 1858. 1860 - Hugh M. Queen and Elizabeth H. his wife sell to Thomas Kelley 100 acres in lot 63, 2nd district, as part of a bond of indebtedness. It appears from these documents that Elizabeths maiden name is Woodall, and she is heir of estate of Edward Woodall. 1860 - on Rabun Co. GA federal census: 49M b. NC, Elizabeth 50F b SC, and children. 1880 - on Rabun Co. GA federal census, age 65. Conclusion: NONE. But, perhaps it's time to attempt and sort out all the Hughs, Richards, Alfreds, Isaacs, etc. CAUTION: Use data from Reiley's webpage to get it "right" and eliminate my "adjustments" here. Gene

I suppose that someone has checked this out a number of times, but...what male Queen was in Rutherford County in 1810 and not there in 1820? 1810 NC Rutherford.....vs 1820 NC Rutherford: Hugh Queen, Sr. pg 128....Not listed on my 1820 index for any NC county. Hugh Queen, pg 128.........Ditto Richard Queen, pg 128.....One listed in 1820 Buncombe, pg 117 and Wil, pg 533 William Queen, Jr., pg 128... One listed in 1820 Buncombe, pg 108 William Queen, Sr., pg 128....Snr listed in 1820 Rutherford, pg 390 1820 NC Rutherford: Henson Queen, pg 357 Mesida Queen, pg 362 James Queen, pg 384 William Queen, Snr., pg 390 Hency Queen, pg 393 Joseph Queen, pg 393 So, who has the scoop on the Hugh Queen and Hugh Queen, Sr. who were in Rutherford Co., NC in 1810; then vanished in 1820? (One does show up in Rutherford 1830, pg 482. Is he one of the 1810's?) Mrs. Betsy or Betsey Queen married another Queen (George) in 1818. How old was she at the time and how many children by her first marriage? Surely she had one or more children by her first husband??? Men don't die on their wedding day or during childbirth. Her first husband would have lived long enough to get at least one child on the way?? Just asking. Don't have a clue. Gene
Thanks for the note Reilly, had gone with your earlier data and discussion on this topic and entered the data correctly. Still working on the Burke County, NC Queen group... between work, etc. Anyone, anyone at all, with info on the Burke County Queen group, please post or contact me. Would like to have someone else to chat with about this group. Regards, Jerry

Vicki Shaffer has been nice enough to post lots of research on the Queen List, and that's great! This sort of activity keeps the list active and vital. The recent posting of the article of Maisie Queen Young (duplicated below) contains a mistake that I've been trying to trace and eliminate. As many long-time members of the list know, the marriage bond between William Lewis Queen, Sr.'s son, Meredith Queen and Jane NEWTON is mis-classified in the NC State Archives, because the clerk's handwriting makes her name look like WEDEN. But the surety of the marriage bond was Benjamin NEWTON (Jane's father). In the text of the bond (written by the clerk), Benjamin's surname looks like Weden, too. But Benjamin signed the bond himself, and his name was clearly Newton there. So Jane was a Newton, not a Weden. And Jane married Meredith, not Moses. I'm happy to send photocopies of the marriage bond to anyone who's interested. Just send a SASE to me at the address below. I don't know if WL Sr. had a son named Moses, or have any other information on him. I believe that WL's pension application names a Moses somehow, and that is why he's listed among WL's children. Can anyone on the list add more about Moses? By the way, if someone has evidence that a Moses Queen in this era married a Jane Newton, I'd be delighted to see it. All I want is accurate information, and Lord knows, there are mistakes in my work. So I want to root them out, if they are there. Here's Vicki''s posting, in part: Thought I'd post this for anyone who might not have seen it. Vicki =========================================================== An Article written by Maisie Queen Young of North Carolina William Lewis Queen, born in 1749 in Virginia, my third great-grandfather, was living in North Carolina by 1753, where he grew up. His name is mentioned on a number of land surveys. He was living in Georgia by 1773 and probably married Margaret, (?)his wile, in that state. He enlisted and served with the Georgia Rangers on the Continental Line dur-ing the American Revolutionary War. His pension file S9462, National Archives, gives details of his services. He was wounded once, taken prisoner twice by the Tories, held for 72 days at Ninety Six, South Carolina: mentions some of the battles and long marches in and out of Georgia and South Carolina. His services ended in 1782. After the war he moved to Rutherford County. North Carolina where he lived for many years. He owned a great deal of land in Rutherford County, some of which was inherited from his father, William, who gave him power of attorney in 1793. In 1824, when he was 75 years old, he applied for a pension in Rutherford County. It appears that his wife died before 1828, when he and most of his family migrated to Haywood County. On the 1830 census, he was living with his son, Joseph, and in 1832, he appeared in Macon County, North Carolina, where he applied for, and received, a pension which was rescinded in 1835. He took no fur-ther action and it is my belief that he died in 1835/6. He had a large family of seven or more daughters, including Virginia (Jane) who md. Joshua Hall, Jr. They settled in the Savannah area of Jackson County, N.C. His sons and their wives were: Joseph H., md. Ursula Jones - James, md. Sarah Jones - Moses md. Jane Newton - Meredith md. Jane Weedon - and William Lewis, Jr., b. 1774/5, md. Margaret Orr, who were my second great-grandparents.
Hi group! Enjoyed the notes (above item). Once we take out all the QUEEN names/individuals and assign them to a 'tree,' maybe MY tree will be self-evident! Still sticking with James C. Queen of Burke County, NC and the several Queen members who could be his father (John/Moses). This would run my tree back into the 1700's, but, then again, believe the connection with the already outlined QUEEN TREE is just one piece of evidence away. (Where, oh where, is that piece of evidence?) Thanks to Vicki for re-sending the info. Jerry

On the 1830 Haywood County census, Margaret is listed as head of the household. The date of her death is unknown to me.

Hi Jimmy and all, I think I can identify one of the Queens listed below. E.D. Queen is Edward D. Queen b. in North Carolina. He married Susan Harralson Dec. 31,1851 and they had one child Adeline D. Queen b. abt 1852. His second wife was Angeline A. Sealey and they were married August 23, 1868 in Maury Co., TN. Their children were Frances b. April 1874 and James Franklin Queen b. Dec. 29,1882. Angeline died 1891 in Maury Co., TN. I've hunted for the source, but it's tucked in one of my Queen books. I know it was from a church in Maury Co., TN. I'll find the book reference etc. tomorrow when I have more time. Carol Queen, E. D. 4th Sgt., 3/4/1862; trans. Co. E 9/30/1862; captured > Vicksburg, Miss., 7/4/1863 & paroled 7/16/1863 > Queen, C. C., Pvt. 3/4/1862; died Ga. 8/20/1863 > > Jimmy O. Redmond, Sr.
Can anyone tell me who these Queens might be. Company H (Walton Tigers) 42nd Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Queen, E. D. 4th Sgt., 3/4/1862; trans. Co. E 9/30/1862; captured Vicksburg, Miss., 7/4/1863 & paroled 7/16/1863 Queen, C. C., Pvt. 3/4/1862; died Ga. 8/20/1863 Jimmy O. Redmond, Sr.
Did this make it to the group? Queen-L is experiencing some difficulties and I just want to make sure all letters get there. Taglines are not even working so I can't tell for sure. mandy Don wrote: > > Thanks for the wonderful transcription !
