    1. [QUEEN] Queen-Davis Connections of Rutherford Co., NC
    2. Diane Carney
    3. Hi to all, Received the following info awhile back from someone who responded to a post I placed on the Union Co., GA website looking for information on a Carney-Sosebee connection. Turns out the Sosebee's were related to some Davis' and the Davis' were related to some Queen's. Can't place any of them myself, but thought I'd send it along in case someone else on the list can connect. I have the sender's e-mail address, so if anyone would like to contact him, let me know. RootsWeb accepts only plain text mail. That means that HTML mail, attachments, ``enriched text'', and a few other formats can't be sent to RootsWeb mailing lists. You can post your message if you send it in plain text; turn off the ``Post in HTML'' or ``Enriched Text'' features of your mail reader, or don't use any attachments. See http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm for instructions on turning off HTML in most of the popular mail programs, or ask your ISP's technical support line for help. We've had to institute this policy because of the problems that accompany these fancy mail formats. Some people don't have mail programs that are capable of processing the special file formats. Even among those who do, different mail programs handle these special formats in very different and confusing ways. HTML messages pose special problems to our digested mailing lists. Most of all, HTML-ified mail and attachments place a considerable burden on RootsWeb's overworked machines. All in all, mail in this format produces a lot of problems for RootsWeb's servers and subscribers, so we find it's best just to use plain text. -- The RootsWeb staff --part1_f.53149f5.267a6427_boundary--

    3. Call me a skeptic if you will, but I just don't believe it. Nope, I really don't believe that folks on this list have pushed all the family research aside, poured themselves a cold one and are swinging in the hammock. Day after day after day after day........

    1. [QUEEN] Rutherford Co. Ancestors - New Subscriber
    2. Philip Minch
    3. Greetings! I am descended from the Queens of Rutherford County, NC. According to the stories my mother told me, this is my branch. There may be errors of spelling, etc. William Allan Queen Sr. - wife unknown William Allan Queen Jr. - Lucinda Rucker (gravestone apparently says Lou C. Rocker) Aden Rucker Queen - Rowena Jane Watkins Herbert, Grady, Pearl, Alice & Mardey Cleveland Queen (note the similarity to Meredith "Meraday" Queen mentioned by others.) Herbert (1894-1982), Alice (1892-1981), and Pearl had no children. Grady 1909-1980) has descendants in Salisbury and elsewhere. Mardey Queen (1890?-1962?) - Dora Adelaide Smart (1890-1979) Robert Queen (no children), Virginia Queen Ashley/Currence & Elma Queen Minch Which leads to me. I have tons of references gathered from this list to sort through, but in the interest of saving myself a headache, can anyone point me toward the ancestors of William Allan Queen Senior? I'm new to genealogical research and not fluent in the means of gathering information. Thanks for any tips, Phil Minch

    1. [QUEEN] TBJ/TBJ Queen
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Just a note to advise that hard evidence to support or deny the possibility that TBJ Queen became Thomas Butler Justice sometime in the1870-1880 period remains elusive. I shall defer to descendants of that family to continue the search for answers. As usual, research into the matter did uncover interesting details regarding other Queen families. One interesting detail, to me anyway, was the move to Towns Co., GA of an apparent brother of Isabella Bryson who married James H. Queen. Believing that James' father was a Samuel Queen of the Haywood Co., NC 1820/30 census, I am still looking for a possible connection to the Samuel Queen of the 1840 GA census. Gene

    3. Hi Cousins, I have recently discovered a wonderful resource in the Cincinnati Public Library. They have a whole wing devoted to genealogy. Their collection contains a tremendous amount of info....most notably the microfilm records of virtually every census. I will be visiting this libaray multiple times over the sumer and would be happy to do lookups if requested. The following QUEENs are the only ones in GA that I have found who are definitely related to me. QUEEN, James W b. 2/1855 in Ga. Residing in Mobile, Fannin Co. Ga. (wife) Elizabeth (BEST) 2/1852 in GA (kids) Wesley 5/1878 Robert 1/1882 John H. 6/1885 Mary F. 4/1888 America 2/1891 Martha 7/1895 I have been unable to find James in a Georgia Census. I have found an Elizabeth BEST of the proper age in the 1870 Gilmer Co. Ga census but cannot be sure if it is the right one. If anyone can shed some light of these QUEENs, I would bwe immensely grateful. p.s. I will be in the North Georgia area wednesday-sunday (6/7-6/11) and would love to get together with any fellow QUEEN researchers in the area if possible. If anyone would like to set up a meeting or has lookup requests please feel free to e-mail me at safetydude@mindspring.com

    2. I lived in Cincinnati all of my life until this past year. Now I am in Illinois , near St. Louis. The local library only carries Illinois genealogy! Cincinnat has the second largest genealogy repository in the US. The Family History Center ( Mormons) have the largest. I will be coming to Cincinnati this summer to visit family and I plan to hit the library! My Queens came from MD to KY to Indiana. My mom and her brother and a cousin did come to Cincinnati. None in the South though! Sue

DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY Sacred Heart Parish in Bowie, originally a Jesuit chapel and mission known as White Marsh, is the birthplace of the organized Catholic Church in the United States. It was here in 1789 that John Carroll was elected the first U.S. Bishop and the first Catholic college was founded in the form of an academy that became the future Georgetown University. Hogan, our meeting on June 18 will be within the chapel walls. Dr. Robert Emmett Curran will speak on the events that took place here in 1789 and place these in historical context. Dr. Curran is the author of The Maryland Jesuits 1634-1833 (with Joseph T. Durkin, S.J., and Gerald A. Fogarty, S.J.), American Jesuit Spirituality: The Maryland Tradition, 1634-1900, and The Bicentennial History of Georgetown University, Volume 1, From Academy to University, 1789-1889. The Chapel on the Hill at Sacred Heart has been designated by the Archdiocese of Washington as a pilgrimage church for Jubilee Year 2000. Directions from Washington, D.C., and vicinity: Washington Capital Beltway exit 19 to John Hanson Highway (Route 50), exit and turn left on Collington Road (Route 197), right on Annapolis (Route 450), go past modern parish church, and take next road leading up to the Chapel on the Hill. 3. Hi all, Still working the John W. Queen (1816) and TBJ Queen project. One of TBJ Queen's daughers, Alva..who married Joseph Wilborn Welch spent some time in Stone County, Arkansas...where Dona P. Matlock Queen reportedly died in 1932 or 1933. (Est. date range of Alva and/or Dona in AR >1889 < 1934). Who was also in Stone County, Arkansas? James Queen (b. 1831 Bedford Co, TN. d. Memphis, TN during Civil War) m. Delia (Deliah) Jane Tate (d. >1870<1880) ....dau: Mary Elvara Queen (b. 11-1862 d. 8-1879 buried Timbo Cemetery, Stone Co, AR.?) m. Robert Looney Farris (b. 8-1861) Anyone recognize the above folks and have any data to share? Alva was in the Mountain View/Pleasant Grove area. Mary McCalley....any idea of the proximity, or lack of it, of Columbia County to Stone County. I haven't forgotten your James Henry Queen and Soforna Fergason. Just waiting for a connect to jump out.
