    1. [QUEEN] Meriday Queen and Elizabeth Brackett
    2. betty knight
    3. Hello List: I have just received information from Clyde Brown, with permission to post to the List. Clyde Brown is descended from Felix Brackett of Habersham Co, GA. Felix's wife Sena/Asythinia/Cynthia is said to be a Queen as told to him by his Grandmother. Clyde recently made a trip to Habersham Co, GA, and found loads of wonderful information from deeds/marriage certificates, etc. Clyde found recorded in land transcations the names of Felix Brackett's dauhter, Elizabeth Brackett and husband Meriday/Merady Queen's(son of James C. Queen). We are curious to know who Sena/Cythia/Asthinia's parents are. We know there were Queens in the area but don't know how they connect to Sena/Cyth./Asyth., or if there was a connection to Merady Queen's line. Clyde said that the census records show Sena and Felix's to be born in NC. We know Felix moved from area of Rutherford Co, NC to GA. Clyde has marriage certificates of all Felix's children except for two. He has copies of Meraday's and Elizabeth. He is loading all his information into an excel spreadsheet. Oh, Clyde does have the names of the children of Felix and Sena Queen Brackett if anyone is curious to the naming pattern: Child # 1. Lucy Jane married Gabriel Sisk on 9 February 1851. References: Marriage Book B, page 80. Deed Book K, page 188. Child # 2. Nancy married Benjamin F. Dooley on 27 August 1852. References: Marriage Book B, page 98. Deed Book S, page 335 and 336. Deed Book K, page 167. Child # 3. Mary married William S. Sisk on 21 September 1852. Reference: Marriage Book B, page 98. No land deed. Child # 4. Elizabeth married Marida Queen on 29 July 1864. Moved to Union County. References: Marriage Book B, page 222. Deed Book K, page 166. Child # 5. Louisa first married John Wilbanks, then Clayborn Rothell. References: Marriage Book B, page ?. Deed Book K, page 162. No second marriage license. Clayborn did not sign the deed, as did the other husbands. Child # 6. William M.. References: Deed Book K, page 168. Deed Book U, page 367. A William M. Brackett married Katherine Eveline Sewell in Franklin County and moved to TN. It is strongly suggested that these are the same William M. Child # 7. Matilda apparently never married. No marriage license has been found. She appears in the 1880 Federal Census in Sena’s household and 2 small children. No reference to a marriage in the land deed she executed as there was in the deed Louisa executed. Reference: Deed Book K, page 163. Child # 8. Elvira married William P. Wilbanks. References: Deed Book K, page 164. Marriage license I have it somewhere. Child # 9. Alvin. There is only one reference to him and that is the 1860 Federal Census. He may have died young. Child # 10. Asinthia Josephine married Jeremiah Gilbert Westmoreland on 24 February 1869. They moved first to TN then to Nevada County, Arkansas. References: Marriage Book B, page 291. Deed Book K, pages 186 and 187. Child # 11. Felix Benton married Margaret Thacker on 15 October 1871. References: Marriage Book B, page 329. Deed Book K, page 162. We owe Clyde a big thanks. Clyde and I would appreciate any comments. I still don't know how my Mary/Polly Queen and husband,Thomas Brackett fit into all this. My mother's great Aunt married a Carrico. Her best friend all through high school and after both moving to Cincinnati was a Carrico. I have a newspaper article about another Carrico cousin who was killed when she was a young girl. I have so many things I have been scanning about my mom's family I would love to find a place to send them to put on a web page so all could share. My family surnames are: Queen and Greenwell who descend from: Clements, Kidwell, White, Weekly, Hanson, Morgan, O'brien, Webb. Other names are Plunkett, Hanson, Penn, and Vaughn. Sue

    3. Hi all, I've been toooooo busy lately to reply or join in on the resent research exchanges. But, if y'all find any answers to the John Queen & Mary Campbell situation, it would be great. Mandy and I believe John and Mary are the parents of our James Campbell Queen, b. May 7, 1819 in Tennessee and died January 26,1897 in Wayne Co., TN. We are certain of the Campbell middle name for James, as we have some other researchers on this line, whose older ancestors still remember him, as well as my Aunt Marion Queen, who also heard stories of her great grandpa, James Campbell. John Queen and Mary Campbell were married on April 30,1816 in Maury Co., TN. From somewhere, (I think one of my distant cousins hired a genealogist) I got the info that Thomas J. Campbell was Mary's father and she was from KY., but that is all speculation. We have gone round and round with this John Queen, trying to figure out who he belongs to. We originally thought he was the son of Henson. But it seems, there are several Johns all born in the same time frame, so it has been difficult to assign him to any particular family. Finding him in the census has also been near impossible. I thought he was the John from Franklin Co., but if he was, he would have had to have been married before Mary Campbell. Well, anyway, if any of you make any headway on this family I would love to have the info passed on to me. I've got alot of stuff to catch up on, but I am reading the post's and savoring all the info. 3. Hi all, The Isaac Queen/Alfred Queen line was a "hit" for Clyde Queen. He now has a name for his great granddad. Info also came in from a researcher of the following line with descendants in the same general area of Oklahoma. As I recall, someone on the list is researching this family....or knows how he links back another generation. Please advise. William Henry Queen (b. 4-4-1833 NC d. 9-10-1903 Big Springs, Howell Co., MO) m. Elizabeth Minyard (b. 2-15-1844 AR d. 5-18-1923 Baxter Co, AR). Children, all born in AR, were: Clarence Daisy Samantha Permithia m. John Franklin Mitchell Cordelia m. Thomas Dean Charles Sherman Hezekiah Nancy Caroline m. James Torrance McKinney Elizabeth L. m. 1st Charles Walker and 2nd Will Walker Thanks, Gene

    3. Clyde and anyone interested, According to some travel software I have, Maysville, OK (western part of Gavin County) to Asher, OK is 42 miles. I picked Maysville simply because it was there in the west in Gavin. I picked Asher, because.... In about 1907, Thomas Butler J. Queen, son of John W. Queen of 1816, reportedly visited his daughter Callie Queen Fleming Bryan there. (Clyde's aunt Minnie Queen appears to have been born about 1914 in OK. Clyde's Thomas would have been in GA for the 1908 birth of Willis, then to OK by 1914). We have no idea where Thomas Butler was between the time he deserted his family in NC between 1870-1880 until he showed up in Asher, OK about 1907. Just wondering what took Thomas J. and Alice Queen, son (?) of Alfred B. Queen and grandson of Isaac Queen, Sr. to Oklahoma between 1908-1914 in the area (?) where Thomas Butler J. Queen was seen about 1907??? Were Isaac W. Queen, Sr (b. ca 1806-1809) and John W. Queen (b. ca 1816) related...and did one of their sons or grandsons meet in OK? Questions, questions. Where are the answers? Gene

    3. Clyde H. Queen, Sr. and all, Came across a Jan '99 post of Clyde's and retrieved my Isaac Queen file again. This sounds too similar to be a mere coincidence: Isaac Q. Queen, Sr. (b. ca 1806-1809 NC) m. 1st Ruth Hunt ....son Alfred B. Queen (b. ca 1833 NC m. 5-26-1861 Union Co, GA. d. Oklahoma City, OK) m. Synthia Rush (b. 9-14-1843 d. 5-5-1905 b. He was "one of several children (some say twelve boys and four girls)." Alfred and Cynthia's six children: ...John Queen ...Emory Queen m. Vinie Walker ...Tom Queen m. Alice Ammons ...Mary Queen m. Tom Talley ...Venna (Vennie Queen m. Frank Davidson ...Albert "Ab" Lee Queen m. 1st Martha Walker Now, from your post, Clyde: 1920 Whitebread Twp, Garvin County , OK census: Queen, Thomas, 43, GA Alice, 41, NC ...Earnest, 19, GA ...Lola, 16, GA ...Carl, 14, GA ...Willis, 11, GA ...Minnie, 5, OK Alfred, 86, dad, NC (= b. ca 1843/44) Clyde E(dward), 21, boarder, GA (Your dad) Clyde....we need to "talk". I have a 20 oz bottle of Mellow Yellow which says that that this Thomas and Alice are your Tom and Alice; that Alfred B. Queen of GA went to your Tom and Alice, where he died; and that Isaac Queen is one ancestor you seek. Can you confirm the place and date of death of Alfred in OK? Gene

    3. Betty: Not sure this is same Jeremiah Queen. Either that or I am looking at the dates wrong. Was he born in Apr 1819 and he is 45 in 1900? Info I have shows his birth year (based on Rabun County census info in 1850) as 1846. Other census data indicate his mother was born in TN, too. There is also a daughter listed as born in 1858, which probably means this Jeremiah was born in 1819 and was 80 or 81 in 1900? I wonder? Rita

    3. Jerry: Thanks for checking e-mail often. Apparently there are a few more monitoring this list--we're up to 4 (smile). John and William, sons of James C. Queen (Union County) were in Cherokee County in 1860 as was Henson and Zelpha Queen. As I recall, Nancy lived not too far from Henson Queen at that time. I've compared notes with descendants of this Henson and Zelpha Queen, but have not been able to connect to that line. Thought at one time Henson/Zelpha might be parents of my Hence, but nothing conclusive. Henson might be old enough, but Zelpha isn't. Of course, Henson might have had a previous marriage too. Like you, I can't see through the trees. My great aunt said she never knew her grandfather's name because he died in the Civil War. Nancy was widowed and in Cherokee County NC in 1860, and from marriage records I've looked at, his children didn't even know his name. Only one of their children (JH Queen) listed parents as Henson and Nancy Queen, Brasstown. The other's listed only their mother, Nancy. Of course, that JH Queen might not be one of the siblings for my line either. Another quirk: my ggf, Hinsey Jonas, was born in GA in May 1859. By August 1860, Nancy relocated to Cherokee County NC as widow. What would prompt her to move to NC? Or did you ask that first? Betty: Your info on 1880 Union Co is particularly interesting. Number 18, Washington Queen, is supposed to be related to my line, but I can't make a connection there either. Wash Queen's descendants remembered my ggf (Hinsey Jonas) and said they called him Uncle Jonas. However, she also thought he was probably a cousin instead of an uncle. I've tried stretching that to Wash and Hence being brothers, but cannot find anything conclusive. I believe Wash Queen was the son of Stephen Queen, but can't find that reference at the moment either. Let's see, I've looked in Rabun County GA and Cherokee NC. Maybe I need to expand my research to TN and Union County GA. It's certainly a puzzlement! Rita

    3. Hi Rita, Union Co has alot of census pages online now with more to come. I find it interesting that the 1900 census has Jeremiah's father born in VA. Also notice one of his grands Rubie, d/o William, was born in Indian Terr. in 1894. And, I don't notice that William doesn't have a wife with the family. I wander why William would have been in Indian Terr? Maybe his wife was of native origins. Just little interesting tid bits. 3. Rita, Told you I check often! Your message indicated Nancy was in Cherokee County in 1860 and no reason, as yet, has come to light. Consider: My James C. Queen of Union County had two sons - John and William (among others). These two were in Cherokee County in 1860. There was also a Henson Queen wife Zelpha. Have some background data on that couple if you wish. That's my part. Now your part :>) Can you tell me why this composite group landed in Cherokee County together? Related? This should be a clue, but right now... can't see through the trees! Regards, Jerry.

    3. Rita, Answer to your question about checking email - I check several times a day! Seems everyone is busy doing research :>) Find it interesting that Hence Queen was in Cherokee County, NC in the 1860 census, along with (would you believe?), John Queen and William Queen, brothers in the James C. Queen family of Union County, GA. Believe Hence was noted in Burke County at one time... is that correct? Or did my memory suddenly go blank? Burke County is my area of concentration currently. Regards, Jerry.

    2. Point to ponder. On the latest e-mail. there was a Carrolina ,daughter of MERDITH Davis and Sara Borgin born Jan 25, 1871 listed. I am wondering if anyone has figured out where this name Merdith, Maraday, Meredith comes from. This is a Davis that has this family name as his first name and am also wondering if there is not a Queen attachment in an earlier generation. Any thoughts anyone? Wendy
