Lovely weather here in California. Gearing up for school, and recovering from a little reconstructive (purely functional!) nose surgery. Amazing, this breathing through both nostrils stuff...and the best is yet to come! Gayle "It is hard when looking at the pasts of other people to understand the fine points of their lives. It is difficult to know the exact shadings of dates which were never written down and to know the intricacies of events which we have not lived through ourselves but only viewed from the distances of time and space." Well, it's pretty warm here on the Florida Gulf coast, too. We're watching the hurricane out in the Atlantic trying to guess which way it will go (smile). Rita

I thought my new e-mail service was rejecting Queen messages. I'm glad to hear I'm still on the list. I guess it's just the summer doldrums. Here's a project; sit down and write the kind of life history that you would love to find if you were researching 100 years from now. How much longer do you old goats think you have ? If you're feeling omnipotent, then go out and interview your oldest living relative. Do it now ! I sure regret not sitting down with my folks. I am looking for Hugh McQueen who I think was born and died in Argyllshire. He married Annie Buchanan (b abt 1812 in Argyllshire; d 16 Jul 1881 Simcoe Co, Ontario). Annie and the children came to Ontario after Hugh died. Her Buchanan siblings were already here. Their children were: John - b abt 1846 Scotland; d 12 Mar 1917 Simcoe Co, Ontario Christina - b 20 Feb 1853 Scotland; d 22 Jan 1933 Simcoe Co, Ontario Malcolm - b abt 1860 Scotland; d 15 Dec 1910 Simcoe Co, Ontario Any help would be appreciated as I have drawn a blank with Hugh McQueen. Thank you. Thelma Hawkes.
I believe this is the same Bank Queen that married Mary Martin in Clay County on 21 Dec 1881. His descendant, Missi, was on the Queen list at one time, but haven't heard from her in a while. Missi, are you there? Rita
Hi Rita, and all, Rita, this "Bankhead Queen" was born in 1861 to John Queen and Catherine (Katherine) Lowery. They were married in Union County, GA., October 16, 1850. I personally believe John is a son of my James C. Queen of probably Burke County, NC, b. 1805. The deal on Bankhead- census records variously list his name as: Bankhead, Buchold, etc. Finding other records which list the name in one form or another lends credence to a specific spelling. Sorry, I haven't gone far enough with this line to speculate whether Mollie is related to Mary and Rachel Martin. The interesting aspect about this material was the surname "Jenkins" which is also linked to the James C. Queen family in that - Nathan Jenkins married James' daughter, Nancy Polly Queen. If you find a connection, please let me know. Regards, Jerry.
One Bank Queen I'm aware of was married to Mary Martin in Clay County in 1881. I'm connected to this line through my ggrandparents, Hinsey Jonas Queen and Rachel Louise Martin. Rachel and Mary were sisters. Is this Mollie a younger sister or a niece? Rita
Hi group! Trip into Buncombe County, NC, today produced a serendipity reward which we (Diane Carney, etc) were discussing in April of this year, i.e., Bank/Banks/Buck/Buchold Queen: Clay County, North Carolina marriages- Jenkins, William, 22, of Union County, GA, to Mollie Martin, 18 - Jan 27, 1895 - at Bank Queen's residence, Brasstown. Just thought the connections/names might come in handy, especially with the Jenkins/Queen connection. Regards, Jerry

Hi Kathy, I've seen no change in service since the announcement of Rootsweb and MyFamily or whatever. QUEEN-L and MIDDLETON-L have been rather quiet for months and that's probably why you've received few or no messages recently. I'm sending this to both lists, as well as to your personal address. So....you should get three copies of this. If you do not, then advise and we'll go from there. QUEEN-L members....what's new? Any new secrets to share? If anyone is working the LONG family of Haywood/Macon Co., NC, I'd love to hear from you. Peter, James, Michael and Barnard Long of late 1700's and early 1800's seem to be holding some additional clues regarding Samuel Queen of ca 1776. "Wary Hut", today "Wayehutta", appears on more deeds I've recently located. Gene
