Carol, Mandy and I had come to the conclusion that John Queen & Mary Campbell are the parents of James Campbell Queen b. 1819 in Georgia and Elizabeth Ann Queen b. 1820 in Mississippi. I guess it would be possible if he was born between 1816 & 1819. In which case he could have been a brother of the above two. Of course, this is an awful lot of "possibility" and NO proof <grin>. I have a death certificate for William (son of James Campbell Queen) on which it states that William's father is James Campbell Queen born in Georgia. However, on the 1860 census of Wayne Co., TN, James C. Queen's birthplace is given as TN., but at that time he is with a second wife and was probably recently married to her and chances are she gave the info. I believe that since the son of William listed his grandad's birthplace as Georgia, there had to be a reason. If nothing else, it would indicate that James C. had some tie to the Georgia Queens. We have dug into records in Maury Co., Lincoln Co. and Wayne Co., TN and only found a few records of John in Maury Co. Here is what we found. Civil War Record Served in Captain McMahan's Co. war of 1812 Maury Co.,TN Pvt. TN Vol Mtd Gunmen May 1814 Maury Co TN Co Court Records: John Quinn appointed a hand to John Edmundson to oversee Rock Creek Rd from Fountain Creek to Josh Glovers 1816 Lincoln Co., TN John Queen land grant, 15 acres, G district, bk m. p 604 (Lincoln) #9198 April 30, 1816 Maury Co., TN Married Mary (Polly) Campbell Their son James Campbell Queen married Priscilla Jobe. Priscilla's family were located in Lincoln Co., TN and that was the reason we checked those court records and found the land record for John. There is the possibility that John was married previously and had children from that marriage. If you have any other info on him, I sure would love to see it. Carol Q. Hi All Some time back I lost all the information on my pc, including the info on the disk. Luckily I copied to paper. The problem is, digging out the packed up box and locating the info. However I can tell you this, (mostly came from my grandmother who passed several years ago ) I posted the line of Queen's in Rabun Co. GA. Do any of you have this information? All the Queen's who lived in Rabun, Towns and Habersham County, GA did come from NC. For various reasons they came to Habersham Co, back to Rabun Co, back to NC the back to GA again. I did find information in Habersham Co. GA where they had bought land and resold it. I believe this buying and selling land was common back then and this is one of the reasons we find records of individual's being listed in different areas at the same time. My g grandpa, his brother and his son all bought land in Habersham Co. GA. The three were listed as being residents there on Habersham Co.. My g grandpa lived in Rabum Co and was also listed as a resident at the same time. His brother was a resident of NC and the son also a resident of Rabun Co. GA. The three were listed twice, in different areas at the same time. When there were only the buckboards and buggies to travel they still spent time traveling long distances to visiting their relatives who lived across the mt's in another state. Once my granddad Lester, son of Samuel P. and Sarena Hunnicutt Queen had left my g mother who was pregnant and he didn't come back for almost three mo's. He had traveled to NC with his dad and an uncle to visit family. On this trip they went to Towns. Co GA, back to NC, to VA and then back home in GA. They had purchased land on this trip. Where, I do not know. (Grand mama had her baby while he was gone. She said some of little children ran and cried because they didn't know their dad when he came home. I believe it cause my Dad shaved his handlebar mustache and my baby sister who was four would not have anything to do with him for a week or so.) I have searched for information on my g-dad but could never find anything. He was a Martial and traveled a great deal. He must have stayed home some because he fathered 15 children. Anyway I have recently found out, information on Marshal's and Ranger's can NOT be found. It is almost as though they didn't exist. Thought this may help some of you. I just wish that I had know how important my grand mama's stories were. They interested me when I was a child but I could not see any reason for remembering anything other than the exciting parts of her stories. Wish all of you a great New Year! Diann Q. Williams

I suppose I should have added that Stephen, according to what I have found and been told, appears to have been born around 1820. I will settle for just one little clue to my Stephen QUEEN who married Sarah/Sallie STEWART in 1837 in Rabun County GA. It has been suggested to me that he was son of John QUEEN and Mary CAMPBELL. Anyone have enought documentation on that couple to disprove it? Gotta go by process of elimination when ya got nuttin' else and Santa didn't leave you the detailed bio you asked for! Hi Don and all, Regarding Don's comment: The first clue is, as we all know, Scotch is a drink, the people as a group are Scots. Gene's response: Scotch-Irish...are both are mighty fine when treated responsibly. Nothing wrong with Bourbon and Irish either on a cold winter evening. Is there a Mellow Yellow-Irish? Okay, gang. Isn't it about time we dig out the old files and start beating the bushes again to tie up some of the thousand and one loose ends? I still want to know why Mary Queen Hemphill was in Haywood County, the Scots Creek area, in 1820. Was she really the daughter of William? Why did my Alfred come back from Cocke Co., TN to live near Mary's son (or grandson?) Nulin in 1860? Kin? Why was my Samuel listed on the 1830 Haywood County, NC census next to Joseph Queen (and Rev War William reportedly living with Joseph)? Kin? How close? And just which Samuel was it who was the bondsman for Timothey Queen and Mary Ann State in Haywood in 1816? Samuel who married Dicey or Samuel the pa of my Alfred? What position does one take and why? And who was that Timothey Queen? How about a son of the Samuel who served as bondsman? Why or why not? Then, there's the Montgomery census of 1810. The ages of the kids of S. Queen too closely match the kids of Samuel Queen of 1820 Haywood to be an accident. Or do they? Those are a few of my questions and research challenges. What are some of other members of Queen-L? Yes, the annual torture called operating budgets is over for this year and I have about 9 months before.....wait a minute. 9 months before BUDGET season begins again. Okay, I be quiet for a bit. Don't want to clutter up e-mails again with my ramblings. But, let's hear something from the gang. My mailbox is empty waiting for some new "stuff". Happy New Year! Gene
What a great site, lots of tid bits about life in the colonies. But, the term Scotch-Irish refers only to that group of Scots who were placed on the lands of the Irish claimed by the Crown. Cromwell assumed incorrectly that the Scots would be grateful for the gift of land and be less trouble than the Irish. It was only a few years before the experiment was halted, when the Scots turned out to be even a bigger problem for the English. You often see the term used incorrectly, even today when people refer to their mixed heritage as Scotch-Irish. The first clue is, as we all know, Scotch is a drink, the people as a group are Scots. This is not meant as a criticism of Gene or Carol. Just a comment to let you know that I'm still alive and kicking. Hi all, Remember these: Haywood County Marriage Bond 1816-12-04 Timothey Queen to Mary Ann State with Saml. x Queen as bondsman. 1860 Haywood County census, HH176 with a Polly Queen, age 63 and born in VA with John State, age 97 also in the household. Did anyone develop any additional evidence concerning this Timothey Queen and Mary Ann and/or concluding if Mary and Polly are the same? I'm also especially interested in determining if the listing of a Samuel Queen here is the basis for concluding that Samuel who married Dicey was in Haywood in 1816? Any "other" evidence which places this specific Samuel in Haywood before the 1820 Buncombe County census on which he is apparently listed? Thanks. Gene
Seeking e-mail address, if any, of Geraldine Queen of Tuckasegee, NC who has an artice in Jackson County Heritage, Vol II. I am very interested in communicating with you regarding the subject. Thanks. Gene
'twas the night before Christmas and the Queen List remained almost silent.....as has been the case for months on end now. Perhaps it could be of interest to some that the subject volume is now in print. But, a word of warning: In the article concerning Alfred Queen of 1810, someone has written this: "Research evidence suggests that Alfred's father may well have been the Samuel Queen (b. ca 1776-1780) listed on the Haywood County census of 1820 and 1830 and that his grandfather was the Joseph Queen (b. ca 1740) living next door to Samuel in 1830. It appears likely that Alfred was one of the children in the Samuel Queen household of the 1820 census." That someone, me, has since come to believe that there was a relationship between the Joseph and Samuel, but that the relationship was probably not father/son. Hopefully, future researchers will work that and other clues and will have better luck in correctly linking the Haywood and Macon County Queens of the 1800's. Merry Christmas to all! Gene
This sounds like the final exam for your genealogy license, but it's a fact. My Uncle was born John Marion Queen, but he always hated his middle name. Therefore, he took the name of his favorite uncle John Robert Queen for most of his adult life, but did not go through a legal name change. When his first son was born, he named him John Robert Queen Jr.. A few years later my uncle had his name legally changed to John Robert Queen. His son named his son John Robert Queen I and that son just named his son John Robert Queen II. The questions are : 1 - Was John Robert Queen Jr. properly named, since his fathers legal name was John Marion.? 2 - What affect did the name change of John Marion have upon his son's existing name.? 3 - What are the correct names of the children and grandchildren.? The Queen site has been quiet lately, so maybe this conundrum will liven things up. I've read special rules apply if you're named after an uncle, but I'm baffled by the name adoption and later legal change. Merry Christmas to ALL my Queen Cousins Don Queen

And to those among us, and to family members, that they may be touched by our many unsung hero's. Merry Christmas to all of you. ---- Christmas poem =B9Twas the night before Christmas He lived all alone In a one bedroom house made of Plaster and Stone I had come down the Chimney With presents to give. And to see just whom In this home did live. I looked all about A strange sight I did see. No tinsel, no presents, Not even a tree. No stocking by the mantle, Just boots filled with sand. On the wall hung pictures Of far distant lands. With medals and badges, Awards of all kinds, A sober thought Came through my mind. For this house was different, It was dark and dreary, I found the home of a soldier, Once I could see clearly. The soldier lay sleeping, Silent, alone, Curled up on the floor In this one bedroom home. The face was so gentle, The room in such disorder, Not how I pictured A United States Soldier. Was this the hero Of whom I'd just read? Curled up on a Poncho, The floor for a bed? I realized the families That I saw this night, Owed their lives to these soldiers Who were willing to fight. Soon round the world, The children would play, And grownup would celebrate A bright Christmas Day. They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year, Because of the soldiers, Like the one lying here. I couldn't help wonder How many lay alone, On a cold Christmas Eve In a land far from home. The very thought Brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees And started to Cry. The soldier awakened And I heard a rough voice, "Santa don't cry, This life is my choice." The solider rolled over And drifted to sleep, I couldn't control it, I continued to weep. I kept watch for hours, So silent and still And we both shivered >From the cold night's chill. I didn't want to leave On that cold, dark, night, This guardian of Honor So willing to fight. The solider rolled over, With a voice soft and pure, Whispered, "Carry on Santa, It's Christmas Day, All is secure." One look at my watch, And I knew he was right. "Merry Christmas my friend, And to all a good night." This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable... Please. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many People as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.
