    3. Hi all, Who was the John Queen who married Mary Campbell (or at least for which there was a marriage bond) on 4-30-1816 in Maury Co., TN? Where did he come from? Where did he go? Those are the questions for which answers go begging. I'm hoping that our research and sharing of recent years eliminates a number of NC John Queens from that picture. It certainly appears reasonable to be that the John of TN would have been born prior to 1800. I understand that in Rutherford County, NC on 1-14-1806 a John Queen signed the marriage bond for Giles Landon Carter and Selah Queen. It is my further understanding that Selah (Seley) was a daughter of Henson Queen of 1742 and possibly a brother to John W. Queen of 1774. Further that Giles and Selah later lived in Carter, McMinn, Knox and Rutherford Co. TN. Was it Selah's brother, John W. who signed the bond in 1806 or was it some other John? When did Giles and Selah move to TN and which other adult went with them? Odds are that they didn't go alone. Again, questions for which answers could be very helpful. Gene

    3. Hi Mandy and all, Thanks for providing the QUEEN-L for us through the years! Now, how may I help you with research or analysis concerning your James Campbell Queen? Please sign me up for the Tennessee Project! It's my understanding that TN became a state in 1796...formed from NC. Perhaps that explains why I can't find a 1790 U.S Census for the state <G>. From another list I understand that an Andrew Cathey was born somewhere in TN in 1815. I've contacted the sender in the hopes of determining where in TN this man was born and if he was in any way related to the Catheys of Caney Fork area of now Jackson County, NC. Queens were in that part of the county very early and another Andrew Cathey was born there in 1809. It's the back door to research, but sometimes there's a clue. Gene

    3. Greetings Friends and Cousins, In a following paragraph I will be making a radical proposal, called the Tennessee Project, to members of QUEEN-L, especially the "old-timers". Please stay with me to the punch line. I joined this list in August 98 and the list was very active at the time. If I recall correctly, Mandy had started the list earlier that year or in the previous year. Anyway, those were exciting times for many of us as new data hit the list daily. Some of us have been able to add to our family links in one way or another through the sharing of data and in the analysis of data. For me, the big break came last year when a listmember discovered a long-overlooked census record. After over thirty years of searching off-and-on, I believe that we have found the father of my Alfred of 1810. Others could share similar stories of success thanks to this list of caring people. For far too long now the list has been fairly quiet. Many of us still have lots of data to digest and file away in one way or the other. And, some of us may have burned-out a bit. But, there's so much we can yet do, to help others if not ourselves. That is exactly what I am proposing. The Tennessee Project: I have not consulted with Mandy, our listowner, concerning this proposal...and she's certainly free to shoot it down. But, the Tennessee Project I am proposing is that we join in to find Mandy and Carol's John Queen, or whoever was the pa of their James Campbell Queen. In doing so, we may also find links for others. Please do NOT send your responses to me. Send your responses to QUEEN-L and direct them to Mandy. Let's fill her mailbox during the next few days with statements of support. Then, let's make it happen. Yes, I still have much work to do with "my" Queens, and I have plans for that; but I am also prepared to devote some of my time in an attempt to find James' pa! How can we help, Mandy? Gene

    3. Hi all, One of the reasons I ask so many questions and ask for comments/challenges to much of the data I post is to give direct line descendants of the person in question the opportunity to toss a rock at this long-toothed fellow and present facts unknown to me or alternative assumptions. In the absence of, but always ready to accept challenges, I am now ready to declare the following as key links to Samuel Queen (b. ca 1780) and listed on following census reports: 1810 Montgomery Co. NC (S. Queen); 1820/1830 Haywood Co., NC; 1840 Habersham Co, Ga; 1850/60 Rabun Co., GA where he probably died sometime between his 80th and 90th birthday. Samuel Queen (b. ca 1780) m. Much of the Georgia information I have is from others who are, or have been, researching this Samuel Queen in Georgia. It would be inappropriate for me to name them here since they may not agree with my conclusions. However, I welcome comments/questions here from all researchers. Now, on to other research interests in the Queen family. Gene

    2. On my genealogy, I show Virginia Jane Queen b. 1787, to be the daughter of William Lewis Sr and Margaret Meredith? William Lewis Sr b. 1749 in Virginia and the son of William b. 1716 in Maryland or Virginia. I show William Lewis Jr to be the brother of Virginia Jane Queen, William L. Jr born 1774 and married to Margaret Orr. He is also the brother to James and Joseph H. Queen. Virginia, I show is married to Joshus Hall, Jr. marriage date Nov 05, 1807. James Queen married to Sarah Jones are my gggrandparents.and their son Jamison Queen is my greatgrandfather. . As to Annie Whisenhunt (Griffin) my greatgrandmother and 2nd wife of Jamison Queen, My father told me, that his father had said his Mother was part Cherokee Indian, I have no proof. I know she is listed on the 1870 census as the housekeeper of Jamison and Mary and she is listed as Anna dWhisenhunt, On my grandfather's death certificate, she is listed as Annie Griffin and that was all my aunts, uncles and father ever called her. She is also listed as born in Burke Co, but I believe that is an error, for my mother and father were told Jamison went to another county in NC and brought her back to Burke Co. She is one mystery I would like to solve. As to a Eugene Queen listed as a child of Jamison and Mary Jefferys, I have only one Aunt who ever mentioned him and the rest of my aunts and uncles including my father never heard of him. I hope this is helpful. Nancy Queen Wiley

    3. Carol: That John Jones' will is surprising to me. My John Jones made his will in 1827 in Rutherford Co. NC. He was married to a Sarah, too. (Sarah Colley) But no, this isn't the same family Ursula who married Joseph H. Queen came from. Only names mentioned in his will were, Edward, William and Charles as children. (besides Ursula Queen) Maizie told me years ago that there were so many Jones in Rutherford Co. NC that she never figured out if they were related or not. 1. William Queen and (Mary) Ann Patton?
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Good Morning Everyone, Who can correctly sort out the mess I've made here? William Queen (b. ca 1781), son of Henson Queen of 1742, married Mary Ann Patton in Burke County, NC on 5-6-1824 and had a son, William Queen, Jr. born ca 1810 who married Mary Rayford???? A William Queen was listed as a son of Henson in Henson's will. But, this man would have been about 44 when he married Mary Ann Patton and his son, William, was born in 1810. This whole package doesn't look correct. How about William Queen (b. ca 1800-1803) and listed on 1830 Macon County census as age 20<30 w/wife age 20<30 and dau age 5<10?? If he had married in 1824 at age 21-24, had his first child about a year later, then Samuel Patton Queen on 12-16-1833, this would seem logical to me. The William Queen of Rabun Co. GA who fits this age range lists a wife as Mary Ann on the 1850 census and Anna on the 1860 census. In a land transaction in Rabun Co, Samuel Queen refers to "Anna Queen, daughter-in-law, wife of my son William Queen". What's the real story? Thanks, Gene
