    1. [QUEEN] Queen/Clement/Others
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, I have received Carolyn's permission to post this response from her in the event that some on the list may be interested in sharing data with her concerning related names. If you wish to respond to: Carolyn <CSM1103@aol.com> Hi!! I don't know how much I'll be able to help you, but your e-mail reminded me just how much we are all related. I saw three surnames in your message which I'm researching in my own family: Carter, Queen, & Dills. Have you tried to find your Giles Carter in Virginia? There are so many Carters and they often had similar names and, just to aggravate all of us many generations later, their migratory patterns tended to criss-cross one another! The Landon Carter lineage, of course, is well researched and was an important Virginia Line. The fact that your ancestor carries the name Landon might be a major clue. Or not... There is also a Giles Carter of Virginia. My elusive ancestor is Thornton Carter who was born in Virginia in 1778, went to North Carolina, and then to Claiborne Co., Tennessee. So far, I haven't been able to connect him to any of the previously researched Virginia families, but I'm working on it!! One of my most helpful clues was the 1850 TN Census which indicated that Thornton's place of origin was VA. Your Giles and my Thornton seem to have been born around the same time and, for all you and I know to date, may have been brothers!!! Wouldn't it be nice to be able to tie up these two loose ends at the same time? My Queen/Clement family line was from Macon County, NC and ultimately moved to Union County, GA. I'm just beginning to research the Queen family (Hannah Queen-1805), so I don't know much yet. The Clements married the Dills. However, the Dills family was also, originally, from North Carolina. I'm telling you this because you mentioned that the reference in the census to Dills, Carter may have been a typo. Be careful, though, because it may not be. The name might be Carter Dills. I'm not trying to confuse you here, but you need to know that the surname Dills was one which existed in that region. Obviously, I haven't been much help here, but I'll keep an eye out for your line and, if I notice anything (or remember anything else), I'll let you know. I have absolutely seen the name Giles Carter before, but I don't know whether or not it's yours. Giles Landon Carter strikes me as definitely being a VA lineage-type name... Good luck! Carolyn

Much of the data listed here is courtesy of Reily Kidd's web page. The remainder has been provided by folks working on the TN Project. The question is the movements of Thomas and why he went to Bedford County, TN. Reiley's data shows movement (which interest us) as: NC > Union Co., SC > Elbert Co., GA > Bedford Co., TN > Morgan Co, AL. We suppose that Thomas is the one listed on pg 93 of the 1790 Union Co. 3. Mandy, Please add my name as a researcher for 'Moses Queen, b. 1781, Wilkes Co., GA. +Sadie Brown." Have taken the past year "off" because of other commitments. However, this individual probably holds promise for my side of the 'tree.' Would appreciate any "concrete" data on this "Moses", especially the wife - Sadie Brown. When/Where/documentation. Will post exact data which comes to light along with comments, analysis for further explanation - not for addition to the tree as gospel! This method will allow all interested parties to add data or comment on what information might be made available. This is done because I firmly believe my James C. Queen, of 1805, (Burke County, NC?) may be related to the above Moses Queen. Gives me further incentive to do the research! All info will be acknowledged. Thanks in advance. Regards, Jerry.

    3. Hi all, Will someone who has a clear photocopy of the original Will of Henson Queen please put it under a magnifying glass as it relates to his daughter, Sarah, and share your opinion as to whether it reads Queen or Green? The Wooleys in their "Rutherford County, North Carolina Wills and Miscellaneous Records 1783-1868" transcribe her name as Queen. (Of course they also transcribe Henson's daughter Seley Carter as Caster.) I have no complaints regarding their work, y'all ought to see some of my attempts, but it would be helpful to know. Thanks, Gene

    3. <1. Please advise the list which, if either, of these folks are or are believed to be your ancestors.> Wm. Lewis Queen, Sr. was my 4th grgrandfather. My DAR certificate on him is on line at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rtr89/DAR.jpg I descend from his son, Joseph H. Queen and then Joseph's daughter, Olive Vine Queen. (she married Daniel Colley) I cannot show where any of these Queen's ever lived in TN............only NC, GA and TX. And all my info matches Mandy's. I'd love to find some more cousins descended from Joseph H. Queen! And even more, find out where Joseph & Ursula Queen are buried. Ursula JONES Queen is last found on a 1870 census, she and Joseph living with their son's family. (Wm. Creighton/Craton Queen) Joseph H. Queen is last found in DeKalb Co. GA living with Daniel and Olive Colley on the 1880 census. Vicki W. 1. [QUEEN] Sarah Queen Proctor??? relatives in KY??
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. In the event a link of our Sarah to Reuben Proctor is firmly established, thought the following may be of interest to Queens>Kentucky researchers. This is from the work of a Melvin Burt: James and Catherine Proctor lived in TN (probably Monroe Co.) until about 1818 when they migrated to Wilson Co., TN. By 1830 they had moved to Russellville Twp., Logan Co., KY. By 1835 they had returned to Monroe Co., TN. In 1835 the Proctors joined with other families to travel to Missouri and James died enroute on March 16, 1836 in St Clair Co., IL. Other Proctors had gone to Kentucky earlier on. A short story by Melvin is as follows: ....In the spring of 1778 a rugged band of men was toiling its way toward the newly settled land of Kentucky. The trail that led from the wilderness of the Holston River valley of North Carolina to Kentucky was to become famous in history as the Wilderness Road. This road started at Powell's Valley, went through the Cumberland Gap, and on for 50 miles on the old Indian Warrior's Trail. At the Hazel Patch, it turned west and followed a buffalo trace on to the Rockcastle River, then through 20 miles of dead brush. Then it ran along another buffalo trace for 30 miles of thick cane and reed to the Kentucky River.... Melvin may swat me if I quote too much of his work, so I will stop with this. Hope it is of benefit to someone. Will also welcome any differences of opinion as to the route, or at least one of the routes, into Kentucky. Thanks, Gene

    1. [QUEEN] Reuben Proctor
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, My notes, perhaps incorrect, reflect the possibility of the following: Henson Queen (b. ca 1742) had a daughter, Sarah Queen (b. ca 1771 in NC). Sarah married a Mr. Green and/or a Reuben Proctor?????????? Any information at all, with references, anyone has concerning a possible husband(s) and children of this Sarah would be greatly appreciated. We are considering the following: On 6-15-1820 a Sarah Queen married a Reuben Proctor in Rutherford Co., NC. Who wa this Sarah and this Rebuen? Proctor family researchers record the above marriage to their Reuben, but also have no information regarding descendants of Reuben and Sarah. But.....there are potential problems with an assumption that this Sarah was the dau of Henson Queen if Sarah was born ca 1771. The Proctor family's Reuben was born ca 1799. This would put Henson's Sarah as 28 years older than this Reuben. Reuben married at age 21, Sarah at age 49. Of course, if this is true it would explain why no descendants of Reuben and Sarah have been located. >From my perspective, another problem develops. It is believed that Reuben's parents and family are the ones listed on the 1810 and 1820 census of Madison County, KY and on the 1830 census of Calloway Co, MO where other members of the Proctor family lived. If the family was in KY between 1810-1820, why was their Reuben in Rutherford Co., NC in 1820? Perhaps he didn't want to go to MO, but returned to other family members in the Rutherford Co., NC area in his late teens??? Anyway, that's the scope of what we have and of our challenge. Please share any info concerning Henson's Sarah. Thanks, Gene

    1. [QUEEN] Isabella Bryson Queen
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, In my post which was presented to settle the question concerning the fact that Isabella Bryson married James H. Queen, I failed to establish the name Bryson in an absolutely convincing way to Isabella, wife of James Queen. I hope to do so now by posting one additional piece of evidence: Book A, Pg 65 Jackson County Courthouse In the matter of the probate of the last will & testament of Andrew Bryson, deceased. Sarah Bryson applying to the said Superior court...... ...said Bryson's home place lying in said county on the waters of Cullowhee Creek adjoining the land of said Sarah Bryson.... ...that she is the sole devisee(?) of said testator & that his heirs at law are his brothers & sisters & their legal representation to wit: William H. Bryson, Robert Bryson, Daniel Bryson, Henderson Bryson, Mrs Rebecca Allison, Mrs. Isabella Queen....... ....Sworn and subscribed the 15th day of April 1884 .................... My week of vacation has ended, so my passion for family history must take a back seat to the requirement of working (sob) to put beans on the table. Gene

    3. Got a slight problem here. My wife and I know that Henry Caleb QUEEN is the father of Basyle Franklin QUEEN. We also know that he (Henry) is the son of Henry QUEEN and Mary ³Molly² BELCHER. We even know that Henry was born on the fourth of July in Wayne co., (West) Virginia; we just don¹t know what year. (Henry would later marry Armenta HAGAR on 2 Dec 1892, but we still don¹t know when he was born!) Paying a visit to various web sites has only confused the matter. Some sources say Henry C. was born on 4 Jul 1851, others say 4 Jul 1871. So which is it? Either one fit into the lineage! Help! The bond is wrong, pure and simple. Someone transposed the name of the "groom" and the bondsman. James married Isabella, William didn't. For those of us who have researched this family, we stopped using words such as we believe, perhaps, maybe, etc. years ago. Here's part of the reason why: In the Old Field Cemetery of Jackson County, NC are their stones, side-by-side. Nearby is the marked grave of their son, S(amuel) H(ouston) Queen and his wife, Darcas Queen as well as the grave of Carolee Queen, grandaughter of Sam and Darcas (She was the dau of Sam's son, John B. Queen and Mary Jane Bryson). I dug up my old photograph of Isabella's stone. Her name is chiseled across the top front with the notation w/o or wife of James H. Queen. Birth and death dates are given on all these stones. If anyone is ever in the area, drive into the Old Field Cemetery and park your vehicle near the old Scotts Creek Baptist Church which still stands there. Go up the hill to the large tree near the back of the cemetery. On the left side of this large cemetery near the old tree, you will find these stones (if I still correctly remember the location). In addition, page 270 of "The Cemeteries of Jackson County, North Carolina" published by the Jackson County Genealogical Society, contains this info. I don't know if copies are still available of this book, listing all the cemeteries in Jackson County, but it is a treasure for those of us with ancestors from that neck of the woods. On the 1900 census of Jackson County, "Isabell" Queen (b. 3-1812) is listed in the household of her son, Samuel H. Queen and his wife, Darcus J. This only scratches the surface of the mountains of evidence which is available regarding this family. The Queen family recognizes Isabella Bryson as the wife of James H. Queen. The Bryson family recognizes James H. Queen as the husband of their Isabella. Their graves recognize it. We have to use words such as probably or it is believed in much of our research. This is not one of those instances. I hope that this is beneficial for those with any doubts or hesitation to emphatically proclaim that Isabella Bryson was the wife of James H. Queen).
