Hi Group, Question on Tippah County - Believe it is located in Mississippi rather than Missouri. (Ref Handbook for Genealogists.) Jerry.
What a situation, not a proud era for the Queen clan. Sounds like the source for many hill billy marrying cousin jokes. In a 3 year period 3 illegitimate children were born to the Queens, all related to the household of Jameson (my illustrious gggrandfather). 1839 - Jameson Queen weds Mary Jeffrys 1858 - Mary Alice Queen born to Jameson and Mary Jeffreys Queen (last child born to Mary) 1869 - William Grant Queen born to Jameson Queen and Annie Whisenhunt (obviously illegitimate) 1870 - Census shows Mary as wife and Annie Whisenhunt both living in the Jameson household. 1871 - Rebecca Davis bond signed by Hampton Queen (brother of Jameson) 1872 - Wade Hampton Queen born, shown as son of Jameson and Annie (I'll bet the farm that he was actually the son of Hampton Queen and Rebecca Davis) 1872- Annie Whisenhunt bond signed by Jameson Queen 1872 - Mary Jeffreys (wife of Jameson) died 1873 - Jameson and Annie Whisenhunt wed 1874 - R.K Brittain bond signed by James W. Queen (son of Jameson) something wrong here, James W. died in the battle of Malvern Hill in 1862 1874 - Pinckney Gaither Queen born to Jameson and Annie Conclusions ? A whole lot of begetting going on in Burke County. Just to completely ruin your day, read the book "Deliverance"; the name given to the two hill billys who attack the campers was the Queen brothers. Jean & Gene Jackson <genejean@sprynet.com> asked: Mandy, Now are you saying that Francis's will was recorded in 1803? Where was this information found?? Jean Info copy/pasted from Reiley Kidd's website, http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2864/ on page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Bluffs/2864/queendata.html 1803 - an Iredell Co. NC will written 24 March 1799 and filed in 1803 ( Francis may have died earlier) names "wife Margret...beloved son James (who owns land in Iredell Co. at the writing of the will)....beloved daughters Margret and Elizabeth and son Joseph..when he arrives at 21 years of age, ...and son David... and daughter Polly (‘ my youngest’). Will mentions James McBroom, names Joseph Nichols executor, and was witnessed by Joseph Millsaps and James McHargue. The three youngest (Joseph, David and Polly) are apparently under 21. Had considerable land. No date - is referred to as an American Rev. War soldier from NC in Pierce’s Register, APPENDIX, p. 622, #14 Francis Queen. Also appears in "Roster of Soldiers from North Carolina in the American Revolution," along with Thomas and William L. Queen. Info (i believe) from Teddy Noye TNoye@aol.com: Abstracts of Unrecorded Wills 1788-1915 & Wills Book III, 1845-1868 of Iredell Co., NC Mar 24 1796 Francis Queen Wife MARGARET to have one third of all cleared land if she remains a widow. Son JAMES to have 100 acres joining his tract and bay mare in possesion of JAMES MCBROOM. Dau. MARGARET to have $20. Son JOSEPH to have 400 acres when age 21 and the horses to be divided among boys JOSEPH & DAVID. DAVID to have lower part of plantation. Youngest dau. POLLY to have the remainder of land joining son JOSEPH. Three youngest children: JOSEPH, DAVID, & POLLY. Friends: JOSEPH NICHOLS & JASPER SHARP to be executors. Wit: JOS. MILLSAPS, JAMES MCHARGUE, jurats.

More mentions on James MCBROOM but unfortunately, not any details. This website lists James as a juror twice bet. 1812-1814 in Claiborne County, TN www.copies1918.net/claiborne1812.html Good luck, Charlton

I thought I might mention that this book was a partial listing of all the bonds available, as stated by the authors. I guess they had gathered enough records to make a decent book. But there are more out there. And this book was only for a few of the counties. I can't imagine how I never saw this book before. Although it may be a new one at our library. I believe this first assumption is correct as RK Brittain only names one person on the bastardy bonds and that would indicate he is the father of the child (I think). It would probably be a good idea to write to Burke Co., NC courthouse for the actual minutes of this hearing. > First we see James W. Queen b.1842 (son of Jameson) fathering the child of > R.K. Great work Mandy! I have much of this, but had never made all of the connections that you did. So has anyone seen James McBroom on the Clayborne Co. TN census? My Polly (Mary) Queen and husband, Samuel Correll had a daughter, Margaret Correll. Margaret married my great, great grandfather, John Watt Houpt. John Watt Houpt's uncle, Valentine Houpt moved from Iredell Co. NC to Clayborne Co. TN sometime after 1810 and remained there for many years I believe. I wonder if we would find this Houpt family close to the Queens or McBrooms. Just a thought. Jean MndyQn@aol.com wrote: > Gene & all , > Someone sent me copies (online) of these wills. Hi all, I hope these records have not been published previously, but if they have, then please forgive me for publishing them again. I found a book at my library called Bastardy Bonds of NC. The book describes these records as follows. "These are bonds posted because of the birth or impending birth of a bastard child. These bonds were intended to protect the county from the expense of raising the child. When the pregnant woman or birth was brought to the attention of the court, a warrant was issued and the woman was summoned into court. She was questioned (under oath) and asked to declare the child's father. The father was then served a warrant and required to post bond. If the woman refused, either she, her father or some other party posted the bond. Occasionally, it will be found that, a woman's name appears several times. You must refer to the original court minutes to determine if this is for one or more cases" MY NOTES: CQ-In this case you will have to check the minutes at the proper county courthouse in North Carolina. Also, there can be more than one person named as bondsman. In some of the cases, it appears that the transcriber read the same name but interpreted it differently (ie. Searby/Yearly). Hi, Where is Tippah County, Missouri? I am a native of Missouri and thought I had been in all the counties in the state. Let me know where it is, I want to visit there. I have checked a mapping program I have of all the development of the counties of Missouri and it does not indicate there ever was a Tippah County. Is someone confused and ther Tippah County mentioned is actually in another state? Lee L. This is exciting stuff, I've never seen these files before. Looking at them closely suggest the following scenario (regarding my relatives) First we see James W. Queen b.1842 (son of Jameson) fathering the child of R.K. Britain Then Rebecca Davis accuses Jesse Talent (whoever he is) and then Hampton Queen(brother of Jameson) steps in and agrees to pick up the tab, Then brother Jameson chimes in and signs the bond. Either Jesse was a close family friend to Jameson and Hampton or Rebecca really got around. Finally, as family rumor has long suggested, Annie Griffin Whisenhunt, (Jamesons housekeeper) comes up with a baby and she also accuses Jesse Talent backed up by Jameson Queen. Jameson married Annie in 1873. Who in the world was Jesse Talent ? What a story must be buried in these records. Can anyone decipher them further for me?
