    1. [QUEEN] TN Project - Data Summary #1
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, Recent traffic on this list has been interesting. Let's keep it coming, regardless of the subject matter. The Sarah Queen Green matter is an excellent example of how I sometimes dart off after an issue rather than staying focused. (But, I like it!). Anyway, I thought it would be well to begin an outline/summary of the TN Project and pass it to the list....with a request. Listmates are requested to add pertinent data and pass it back to the list. If it grows, and it certainly will with participation from the list, I will update the summary at times and post it back to the list for another round. Here is a starting sketch: TN Data to 1820: 1796 Will of Francis Queen of Iredell County lists bay mare in possession of James McBroom (state of residence not given, but some relationship exists per later data). 1797 Johnson Queen born in TN per 1860 Harrison Co, MO census War of 1812. John Queen enlisted from Maury Co. 1812-1814 James McBroom twice listed as a juror in Claiborne Co May 1814 John Quinn of Maury Co. apppointed a hand to John Edmondson to oversee Rock Creek Rd. May 1815, Maury Co. William Quin is listed on inventory of Edward Beanland. William owed Beanland 50 cents due 6-19-1815 4-30-1816 John Queen married in Maury Co., TN 1816 Lincoln Co. Land grant of 15 acres to a John Queen 1816 Carter Co. Body of Clarence W. Queen (d. 1816 of acute indigestion) was moved from Goodwin Cemetery in Carter Co. to Union Co., TN in 1947 (TVA removal project) 1820 Franklin Co census lists John Queen family 1820 Bedford Co census lists James Quinn family TN Data to 1830: 1828 Will of John Mc Broom in Hawkins Co. TN. Lists eldest son, a James McBroom 1832 Will of Margaret Queen leaves property in TN at James McBroom's for him to dispose of. (Margaret was wife of Francis Queen) 1823-1830 Reuben Queen in Carroll Co., TN TN Data to 1840: 1833-1838 During this period, Isaac Queen was in Washington Co., TN for birth of son. 1836 John L. Queen, Morgan Co., TN purchased property from Elijah Buck..same year his son, Elijah Buck Queen was born.

    3. Hi All, Thanks for the many replies I got about this cemetery. I sure appreciate all the help. I now know a whole lot about it. I just thought I would share my reason for looking into this cemetery. It appears that Rebecca Queen Hogue is buried there and I have discovered that many of her grandkids ended up migrating to McMinn Co., TN. Since several of us are trying to get establish a pattern of Queens going to TN, this family seems add to the list of William & Margaret Lewis Queens descendants who trekked to TN. 3. Golden Valley Cemetery is the final resting place of Old William Queen d 1801. He is the rascal that came down "The Great Wagon Trail" from Virginia and started this whole mess. I had given up on locating his grave. I've visited and photographed many of my ancestors, but until now, I had given up on Old William. Ed, if your reading this, please look for William's grave scan it and tell me how to find it. 1. [QUEEN] Sarah Green, dau of Henson Queen
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, Thanks to everyone who has participated in the review of pertinent portions of Henson Queen's Will as it relates to his daughter, Sarah. It seems to be the unanimous opinion of the 5 who have viewed it that Sarah's last name was written as Green on the document in question (not the document from Book D at Rutherford). The person who provided this document reports that it is a photocopy of the one in the NC Archives. (It also appears to be the same document which appears on Carol's webpage.) At least two of us (I neglected to ask the others) further believe that this is probably a photocopy of the actual Will, not a transcription. This ends my questions concerning this matter and directs attention to any Green family listed on the Burke County, NC (or Rutherford County) census or other records during the period of 1820-1830. Sarah Queen Green was alive on 3-17-1823 at the date of Henson's Will....or at least Henson would have thought this to be true. Gene

    3. You're correct, I was having a little fun with this new info, I hope I didn't offend anyone. It got me to thinking again (it's so hard) and I recalled an old newspaper article I have about Jameson being one of the founders of the local Baptist Church. Hardly the image of a womanizing hill billy. Maybe he was involved in someway because of his role in the church. Regardless, it's great to get the list stirred up again. My point with Mar Alice is that she was the last born child to Mary Jeffrey's. 1. [QUEEN] Henson's Will - the Plot Thickens
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi Carol and all, I am very grateful that Carol and others post copies of old documents on their web sites. At the same time, this takes nothing from the fact that there are at least two different versions of this Will available to the public. I 've already mentioned the differences in the last name for Sarah as well as the fact that the words on each line do not match. Another example is that the Will on Carol's website has at least seven words (duplicates) marked through. These duplicated and marked through words do not exist as duplicates in the Will in Book D in the Rutherford County Courthouse. It could be that the Will on Carol's Web Site is a photocopy of the actual Will. I just don't know. I do know that, looking at a section of an enlarged copy of the same document posted by Carol, the name Green (in my opinion) clearly appears after the name Sarah. Don't we just love mysteries? Gene Carol Queen wrote: > Hi All, > > You can view the Henson's will at the following website. > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/6587/Qdoc5.html > > Carol > "Where there is no vision, the people perish" Proverbs:29:18 > > <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< <>< ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> ><> > QUEENSCASTLE BRANCHES AND BOUGHS > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegaleire > Homepage/Donegal, Ireland, Poland & Russia Information > http://www.geocities.com/postalq > Home of Donegal, Ireland Information Site > Also Poland & Russia > > ==== QUEEN Mailing List ==== > GenConnect Family Association: Queen > Surname Index > http://surhelp-bin.rootsweb.com/surindx.pl?site=88QUEEN > > ============================== > Ancestry.com Genealogical Databases > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist2.asp > Search over 2500 databases with one easy query!

    1. [QUEEN] Sarah Green
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, A listmember has provided a scanned copy (apparently the transcription in Book F by a court official) of Henson's Will. I am just one person with one voice, but Sarah's last name clearly appears as "green" to me. What make this so obvious is the writing of the letters "r" and "u" which are used in a number of words. As I reported earlier, this in no way resembles the spelling of Sarah's last name as recorded in book D at Rutherford County. So, there are at least three documents available....each now reporting a different last name for Sarah...1) Wooley reports the name as Queen in his book, 2) Book D in Rutherford County reflects a name modified by someone to read Jones or some such, and 3) Book F (I assume to be the source) clearly reflects Green as her last name. So....I really want to locate the ORIGINAL document. Gene

    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi all, Does anyone on this list know if THE WILL of Henson Queen has survived through the years and if it exists in the Archives in Raleigh or in Rutherford County? Let me be explicit. Henson could not write. THE WILL was written by someone for him and he made his X on THE WILL. THE WILL was then taken to the courthouse after his death. The "copies" we find in old Will books are just that, copies. Some clerk has transcribed from THE WILL into these books. Back to the question, does THE WILL exist today? Thanks, Gene

    3. Don, That marriage record has been checked, I think it contains the name of Merideth Queen and Jane Newton! List members,If this is incorrect, please advise. Think we now have to find Moses's wife, not Merideth's. Believe all have agreed upon that version of pairing. Now, the Queen 'tree' shows Moses with someone named "Sadie Brown." Haven't found anything on this Moses regarding his wife. But, he did show up in Burke County in the 1810 census. Disappeared (died?) in the 1840's. Based on his census records he had four sons (never in all the records was this in doubt), and three daughters. One of these sons - Solomon - remained in Burke County, NC. Regards, Jerry

    1. [QUEEN] Wade Hampton
    2. Hi Everyone, Wade Hampton Queen was the son of Annie Whisenhunt and Jamison Queen, He is the brother to my grandfather, Pinkney Gaither Queen, per family and records. The oldest son was William Grant Queen, born 1869 and both were born before the marriage of Annie and Jamison in 1873. My grandfather PG was born in 1874. If Jamison had any other illegitimate children, the family never mentioned it. Nancy Q. Wiley Jesse Tallent was the witness at the marriage of Jamison and Annie.

    1. [QUEEN] Re: Burke County, NC
    2. Jerry Dyer
    3. Hi Group, The Tallent (Talent, Tallant, etc.) family of Burke must have been close with some neighbors, for example the Queen group. In chasing down my Queen twig, a Jesse Tallent and his wife (Burke County) were living in Union County, GA from at least 1860. Traced their census records back and this couple never (rpt: never) had any children. This particular Jesse Tallent was a Neighbor of my James C. Queen and obvious friend of James's son - Moses Queen of Union County. James C. and Moses, along with James's son-in-law, Nathan Jenkins, were Admins of Jesse Tallent's estate in 1875 in Union Co., GA. (See Wills section on Union Co.Web site). The following is only a partial listing of page 76 of the Burke County, NC census for 1840: Tallent, Reubin-Proper, Josiah A.- Shoup, Gabriel- Bradshaw, Josiah- Pruit, Spencer- Craig, Aaron-Tallent, Jessey (s. of Ann?)- Johnson, Jos.- Johnson, Ann- Tallent, William- Quinn, Moses-Wats, William- Sisk, Martin- Sisk, Henry- Butler, Hugh- Tallent, Jos (s. of Rich.)- Wats, John- Smith, Wesley- Chapman, Mic? Jr.- Tallent, Aaron, Jr. (These names copied as written) Item- Jesse Tallent #041/039 - 1860 - Union Co, GA, age 52, wife Sada, age 45, both born in NC. (James C. Queen in same neighborhood) In answer to the question - Who is Jesse Tallent? Definitely not this one since the other activity occurred in the 1870's. My Point to this is the following: For those looking for connections for their QUEEN ancestors and haven't found them in other NC counties, Try checking out Burke! Believe the above 'Moses Quinn' to be Moses Queen (b. c.1781) and just possibly the son of William Lewis Queen, Sr. BTW: Have not heard from anyone on the wife of Moses Queen/1781, ie., Sadie Brown. Anyone have anything on that marriage? Regards, Jerry

    3. The marriage record of a Moses Queen to Jane Weedon is a double mistake. Without going into great detail, let me just say that the actual record is the marriage bond between MEREDITH Queen and Jane NEWTON, dated Feb. 16, 1797 in Rutherford Co., NC. I believe that some earlier researcher wrote down M. Queen, and then later assumed it was Moses, when in fact the original clearly states Meredith. And the handwriting of the clerk makes Jane's surname LOOK like Weedon. But so does his listing of the bondsman's name, Benjamin "Weedon." But the bondsman signed the bond himself at the bottom, and his name clearly reads Benjamin NEWTON. Thus Jane was Jane Newton, the oldest daughter of Benjamin. The NC State archives has this bond incorrectly indexed as Queen-Weedon, and when I pointed out this error to them last year, they assured me that future indices will show it as Meredith Queen and Jane NEWTON. I will provide a photocopy of the entire original document to anyone who wants one. 1. [QUEEN] Henson Queen Will....Record #2
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Hi All, Today I recieved from Rutherford County a copy of Henson Queen's Will of 17 March 1823. But............ This is NOT a photocopy of book F, Pg 53. It is a copy of Book D, Page 53 per the county employee who provided me with the copy. And, there's more.... 1. Clearly it is not a question of someone simply using the wrong page as reference, because when I place the photocopy from Book D against that from Book F, the lines do not match whatsoever. 2. My great interest was in a careful study of the last name of Henson's daughter, Sarah. But, that will be useless...thanks to some low-life form who has taken it upon themselves to falsify the document in Book D. Someone has clearly written over the original spelling of Sarah's last name to now make it read "Jones" or some such mess. In my research of original documents through the years, I have seen too many instances where some johnny-come-lately has modified original documents in order to "correct" the document or get the document to agree to their wish. Even if the "correction" is true.....it is still false! It is not the "original" entry. It is a modification, a falsification of what was originally written. Please, please, let's not any of us be found guilty of such terrible abuse of historical documents. Thanks, Gene
