Peggy, Hi cousin. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have been to the Sunburst cemetery. I firmly believe Robert Henry Queen is a brother to my gggrandfather, Nathan S. Queen. I also believe they just have to be the sons of William B. Queen. I believe that for some reason they both went over the mountain to the Pigeon River area and the fact they were sons of William B. Queen was lost in time. Maybe there was a rift in the family and they never talked about their father and thus the descendants did not know who their father was. Hopefully, we can find out some day. How do you descend from Robert Henry Queen? Lee Lamar Charles Mason wrote: > > Lee, > I appreciate you trying to find a family for my ggg-grandfather > Robert Henry Queen. Hi fellow Queen researchers: I too have been quietly, but with great interset, watching information regarding the NC project on Queens. Just read cousin Rita Queen Bartmess's post on our ancestors. Wanted to add a little as relates to NC/GA research. Henson (b about 1858) & Nancy York Queen were in Rabun Co., GA in 1840 (he's listed as Henson in 1840) and in 1850 (listed as Hence) living near a William Queen (b about 1800). In 1840, there is just William and Henson; then in 1850 Rabun Co GA, there is Daniel, Hugh, Martha, Nicy, in addition to Hence and William. Then Nancy and children appear in Cherokee NC in 1860 and in Clay Co NC in 1870 (Hence had apparently died in 1859 or 1860). In 1860 Cherokee Co NC, Nancy is living with children Jerry, Mary, Harvey, Jane, and Jonas (our ancestor Hinsey Jonas Queen). She is living adjacent to the following Queens: John & Catherine Lowery Queen, ages 27 and 26, with children. Next household: William Queen, 23, and Fanny Cox Queen, 2, with children. Next household: Henson Queen, age 59 and Zilpha Queen age 50, with children. A post sometime ago listed the above John and William as sons of James C. Queen. I have been unable thus far to connect our Hence (or Henson) and Nancy York Queen with any of the other Rabun Co GA or Cherokee Co NC Queens. Another interesting fact, Hence and Nancy York Queen's son and our ancestor, Hinsey Jonas Queen and wife, Rachel Louisa "Lou" Martin Queen moved to Cobb Co. GA 1880's or 1890's along with Banks (perhaps Bankhead) and Mary "Mollie" Martin Queen (our Lou's sister). Missi of this list is descended from Banks & Mollie and reported earlier that Banks was the son of John and Catherine Queen, perhaps the John and Catherine above of 1860 Cherokee Co NC, living next door to our Nancy York Queen. So, apparently Banks and our Hence were related, perhaps cousins? There are several of us on this list researching this line, but to my knowledge, everyone is at a brickwall re parentage of Hence (or Henson) Queen, b about 1858, in Rabun Co GA with wife Nancy York in 1840 and 1850. Can anyone help us further? Paulette Willis Dunn Douglasville, GA
For those of you more familiar with the location of the Queen families in NC......is this Woodward family residing in the same areas of NC & TN as John Wesley Queen Sr and Henson? While looking on Ancestry.com I came across all of the following information. 1. Pedigree chart of Hampton Queen as son of John Wesley Queen Sr son of Henson. John's chart had the following notation: John Wesley Queen Sr - Source says this person bought Golden Valley tracts from Peter WOODWARD, Jr. bsimons@dialupnet.com Since there is a Woodward connection with Hampton's wife Hannah Williams. Hannah Williams is the daughter of Allen Williams and Jane Woodward, granddaughter of Abraham Woodward (1740-1817) and Hannah Thornbrough (1738-1812). 2. Census Records: 1762 WOODWARD ABRAHAM Rowan County NC NC Early Census Index NCS1a3596966 1768 WOODWARD ABRAHAM Rowan County NC 1779 WOODWARD ABRAHAM Randolph County NC No Township Listed NC 3. Lee, I appreciate you trying to find a family for my ggg-grandfather Robert Henry Queen. I have been trying for years. He was born Oct. 24, 1832, but I can't find him anywhere before 1860. His mother Mary lived with him in 1880 age 86 (b.1794). RHQ lived in the Sunburst area of Haywood County from the 1860's until his death March 4, 1919. His death certificate list his father as unknown. He and his wife Nancy are buried at Sunburst Cemetery. Peggy Queen Mason
Greetings Everyone, My notes reflect this only, and this was provided by a listmate: James Queen (b. ca 1774 d: Clayborn (Claiborne) Co, TN) m. Zilpah Hogan Can and will anyone on the list share any info regarding this man and woman, such as: 1. Why do we think James was born in 1774? 2. Do we know (or think) in which state he was born? 3. Why do we think he died in Claiborne Co, TN? 4. Do we have any idea when he died? 5. Why do we think he married Zilpah Hogan? 6. Do we have any idea when and where the marriage took place? 7. Do we know anything about Zilpah's siblings or parents? Anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Gene
Mandy, As far as I can see I found no other Queens in 1860 Harrison Co. MO with Johnston. However, when I wrote the census data down last year, I was not specifically studying the Queens in that area. I was checking for some of my other ancestors. Hello Queen List! I've been a subscriber for quite a while, and have enjoyed the recent flourish of activity. Just keep hoping the buzzers will sound and I'll see the missing links I need to tie into all these other NC Queens! I'm responding at this time because I keep looking for a link to Carol's Stephen Queen or the George Washington Queen she mentioned in her post. My brick wall is Hence Queen who was listed in the 1850 Rabun County GA census with wife Nancy (York) and children Jerry I (Jeremiah?) and Mary A. In 1860, Nancy was listed as widow in Cherokee County NC with 5 children: Jerry 18, Mary 11, Harvey 9, Jane 5, and Jonas 2. My ancestor is Jonas (Hinsey Jonas) who died in 1935 and is buried in Holly Springs Cemetery, Marietta GA. Based on census info, I place Hence' birth year at 1823. Is it possible Stephen Queen and Hence Queen were brothers? In the 1980s I interviewed Elda and Beulah Queen, both granddaughters of GWQ above. They remembered Uncle Jonas as he was called, but thought he was probably a cousin rather than an uncle. I've tried to locate descendants of Jonas' sibllings, but no success there either. As I recall, Jonas' sister Mary married Jesse P.F. Anderson in 1873, and Sarah J(ane) married Theiron Cheek in 1878. Jeremiah Queen married Margaret McFalls in 1874, and J.N. Queen (Harvey?) married D.O. McFalls in 1881. Jonas married Lou Martin in 1879. All of these marriages took place in Clay County NC. Rita Queen Bartmess
Mandy and all, I checked the censuses again quickly today. When I read 63 in the 1860 census I see that the number is probably actually 43. The four was weird, but that makes more sense and then fits into the 32 for the 1850 census. I was hoping that perhaps Johnson/Johnston was somewhere living alone in the 1840 census. However, I could not find him in TN or KY or IND. I have been on this list off and on for about three years. My brickwall and thorn in my side is Stephen QUEEN born about 1820. He married Sarah/Sallie STEWART 1837 in Rabun County GA. They were listed on her death certificate as the parents of my 3G grandmother, Elmira/Myra QUEEN who married John Harrison HUGHES and settled in Cherokee County NC. John Harrison HUGHES and Myra QUEEN had a son, Hugh Marcus HUGHES who married Adeline QUEEN. My dad grew up with the children of Hugh and Adeline and he said that Adeline was Myra's niece. Adeline was daughter of George Washington QUEEN. Cherokee County Heritage book volume I has the parents of George Washington QUEEN as Stephen QUEEN and Elizabeth BAKER. So Stephen may have had second marriage. Stepehen and Sarah lived in Polk County, TN. I have seen listed as children of Stephen and Sarah: John b. around 1839 Samuel P. b. 1839 Uriah b. abt 1844 Lewis or William Lewis b. abt 1846 Scilla or Lilla or Lila b. abt 1849 and of course my Myra There definitely was interaction between John Harrison HUGHES, husband of Myra QUEEN. They gave testimony for each other regarding applications for civil war pensions. They also were listed as having deserted together. Lewis died after applying for his pension and it was granted to his widow. After she received her check, ANOTHER wife of Lewis showed up, complete with marriage certificate. I have been told [with no proof offered] that Stephen was a child of John QUEEN and Mary CAMPBELL. Stephen's date of birth is taken from age on Polk County census and we all know how accurate those census returns can be! Carol Don't let another child be hurt by ignorance. Hello Lee, After reading your post regarding Nathaniel S. Queen, thought some of my data might be of help. You probably already have the info, but for those who might be interested and do not have the census records on Nathaniel S. Queen, here 'tis: Haywood County, NC, 1850 #563 - Queen, Nathaniel S. 23 NC Martha Jane 21 NC Melvin S. 3 NC Martha Ann 8 mo NC (They were married - 18 Feb 1847 in Haywood County./Martha Jane Rhodes) Haywood County, Forks of Pigeon Community, 1860: #3 - Queen, Nathaniel S. 34 NC Martha Jane 30 NC Melvin S. 13 NC Martha A. 10 NC Mary E. 8 NC Andrew S. 6 NC James Marion 4 NC Nancy J. 1 NC My ancestor, John Dyer, was in the 62nd, organized in Haywood County during the Civil War. he, also, was at Cumberland Gap and subsequently in Camp Douglas, Chicago, Ill. After release, he also had to walk home! His stories (partial) are contained in my Dyer book. Mention of John Dyer's walk home is included in a book on Union and Confederate Civil War Prisons called "Portals to Hell," by Lonnie R. Speer. Although I don't have Nathaniel's parents pinned down, suspect William B. Queen. Regards, Jerry

I'm not sure why they divorced or what the circumstances were but he came to this area where we now live and married his 2nd wife June 1883 in Tipton Co. (Co right next to our Laud border) Carol and I both are seeking information on John Queen and his descendants. I'm sure she'll want to add to this letter. Where was John Queen before 1812? Who were his parents? Where did he go after 1820? When and where did he die? Who are all those other children in his hh in 1820? We can only identify James C and Elizabeth Ann. Mandy Queen, listowner

I looked to see if maybe it looked like 52 but they have a child 5 and the 5 and the 3 don't look alike. If he was really 52 then he may have been the father to the Ruben? Then that would put the Johnson in TN in 1800? That's all iffy. I don't have access to 1860. Thoughts on this from anyone else? Mandy
Hi list, I'm also searching Francis Queen, b. abt 1751, d. abt 1803. I, like Jean, am descended through his daughter Mary "Polly" Queen who married Samuel Correll. Then also like Jean, I am descended through their daughter Margaret Correll and John Watt Houpt. I have been following the posts on this list with great interest. Anyway, just thought I would introduce myself. Teresa
John, I'd like to remind you that there is a DELETE key on your keyboard. Should you happen to see a post you don't like in the future, simply find and press that magic little key and save yourself the trouble of getting offended. Next, I'd like to remind you that Maryland would have likey seceded from the union if Lincoln hadn't dissolved the state legislature before it could vote on the secession issue. As such, there are thousands of Marylanders rejoicing at the Point Lookout ruling. Lastly, I will continue my fight as long as people like you try to tell me what to say or think, try to pretend that the years 1861-1865 didn't happen, and most importantly, seek to curtail the manner in which I choose to honor the thousands of brave southern men who fought, suffered and died for FREEDOM from an oppressive federal government.
