Do any of you Queen researchers know of a Queen who married a widow named Miriam Rowland Powell in Rutherford Co NC or possibly Habersham or White Co GA? The time would be in the 1820s or 1830s. To all our friends in the Seattle area, please come in and tell us that you are okay.
Gastonia Twp; Charlotte-Gastonia Rd 74/147/228 Queen, John T., 32, warper in cotton mill Lillie, 26 Audra, 7 Carl, 5 Henry, 3 Mary R. 1 1/12 Most of the Queens/Quinns of 1920 Gaston County were in their late 20's; thus a number of the children are probably living today. Thus, I will post additonal data only if requested. Gene

Hi Ronnie, Your post interests me greatly. The textile mills in Gastonia lured folks from the NC mountains at least as early as 1942. There are two elder Queens (grandchildren of my Alfred of 1810) who made that move: (Dock) Joseph Queen (b. 1898) and William McKinley (Kin) Queen (b. ca 1903). These two men were sons of L. D. and Texie Queen of Jackson County, NC. One of Joseph's sons was J.T. Queen (b. ca 1920 d. 5-21-1997). It is my understanding that his wife's name was Evelyn...although he may have been married more than once. The Belmont area of Gaston County is where they called home to my recollection. I would love to pursue this further with you, even though you believe that your folks came to Gaston from Cleveland County. Please build upon the following with names/dates and any other info, no matter how small, that you would care to do so and e-mail me privately or to the list as you wish. (Hopefully, your father will remember the names of some of his aunts and uncles. If so, that should allow us to find them on the 1920 census. Perhaps it will be a piece of cake to trace the family back a number of decades). Avery Queen ?son....John Queen (b._________ d. __________) m. Laura Phillips .........13 children (including following) .........Eugene Queen ..............Ronnie E. Queen As for me, I was born in Davidson County in '42 (and am not quite as "long in the tooth" as I may have led some to believe). I grew up on a small dirt farm with chores which included milking the cow, slopping the hog, chopping the weeds out of the garden and cornfield, cutting wood for burning in the fireplace and kitchen cookstove, picking cotton, etc. For far too many years I read by kerosene lamp. So, I can relate to poor. But, that will not stop us from finding more data regarding your family if you wish to pursue it further. I love calling North Carolina home. If you don't mind sharing, where do you call home? Gene RQueen6270@aol.com wrote: > Hi, > > My name is Ronnie Queen. I've been subscribed to the discussion group for quite some time. Hi, My name is Ronnie Queen. I've been subscribed to the discussion group for quite some time. I havn't said much yet. I do read the posts in hopes of learning something about my queens. I don't know much. I spoke to my 66 year old father recently but he doesn't know much either. My grandfather was John queen. He married Laura Phillips. They lived in the Belmont area and had 13 children, 2 deceased at birth. one was Eugene whom I was named after. I think my Great grandfather was Avery and moved to Gaston from Clevland County NC. That's about all I know. I confess that I havn't spent a tremendous amout of time researching this. However, my queens don't know much themselves. They were very poor so they didn't keep birth or death records. Anyway, if anyone knows anything or has any sugestions, let me know, Regards, Ronnie E Queen

Rita, I found an entry on Union Co, GA census for an Edmund Henson b. in TN. Could be that he moved over to Hayesville,NC. 466 HENSON Archibald 74 VA Charity 30 NC Agnes 18 NC Edmund 10 TN In 1830, an Archibald HENSON was in Buncombe Co., NC. In 1840, an Archibald Henson, Jr. was in Washington Co., TN. As for "gravel", I believe it refers to a kidney/bladder ailment. Something like "stones". Rita, I don't have any additional information on Edmund Henson, but another possibiblity on his illness could be "Graves disease" which is a thyroid condition. I found a Mary Ann Queen in Hayesville Township, 1880 Clay County NC census. She was 5 yrs old and lived with Edmond Henson (Hanson?) 68 and wife Lucinda 58. No relationship was given; just that Mary Ann "lives in family." Another interesting question concerning Edmond: in the column referring to illness in the last year, it looks like the word "gravel" is written there. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Just sign me curious in Florida aka Rita Queen Bartmess ;-)

Have I asked about this QUEEN before? Mary J. QUEEN Born: 11/18/1873 , , , d: 05/21/1923 in , , , Burial: Willets, Jackson, NC Did she marry a HOOPER? Thanks, Gayle
A descendent of Joseph B. Queen was on this list about a year ago and I'm looking for him. I've had 2 computer crashes since and lost all my messages and email addresses. He was looking for the grave of Joseph H. and Ursula Queen. I received a letter today from a lady who researches Joseph B.'s family and she says that Joseph B. Queen is the son of Joseph H. Queen. Could he contact me, should he read this? Charlton, Thanks for the data on various Queen family members. One never knows when things like this could help research avenues. For example, my DYER ancestor was in the 62nd Regiment, Company "C," as were the two Queens you noted in the message. Researching and writing a chapter on John Dyer was a real adventure. Especially his 'walk' home from "..that war." Nothing much on the walk itself, but books on the place he was in a POW camp, Camp Douglas, just outside Chicago, Ill., were interesting. In addition, the 23rd GA, Moses Queen, yep, mine as well! Thanks, and regards, Jerry
Hi Sue Baldwin and all, Who has the scoop on Martha Baldwin (b. 7-13-1770 Amelia Co, Va) and married Anderson Nunley? We understand that Maratha died in 1848 in Hickman Co, TN; Anderson may have died ca 1830 in TN; they may have stopped off in Lincoln Co., NC by 1795, then on to TN; and that one or more descendants moved on to AR. Any Baldwins in the Maryland to Kentucky group? Any of them MD > VA > NC>TN>KY or AR? Thanks, Gene
