    3. Okay, Katy...you have my interest. What will you share regarding this younger brother of Reuben Queen....William (b. ca 1793)? 1850 census of Arkansas? Anything else. Anyone else have info on this William....especially any male descendants? Thanks, Gene >

    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. There is another DNA sample in process for another descendant of Samuel Queen of 1759 through his son, John R. Queen (b. ca 1803). The promised donor is a descendant of John R.'s son, Rev. John Lewis Queen (b. 1830). The objective is to confirm the current markers by testing in the lineage of another son of Rev. Lewis Queen. If successful, this will confirm the current mutation back to 1830. Gene

    2. Katy McMillen
    3. Hii, Linda, William [1850 Census] in Reuben Queen's household was most certainly a younger brother [born ca. 1793] and apparently in Arkansas when Reuben was, too. I have not done a study on him, but there is a possibility we can figure out his children from a group who remained in Ark. Reuben, you realize, also had a son, William L., a twin, born 1853. His twin died, but he went on to have a family--5 of his children died with him in a flood in Tom Green Co. TX in April 1900. Reuben possibly had a brother John--we are working on that theory now. As for the possibility that Henson might have been his father, I have no idea. [Where is a copy of Henson's will?] Teddy Noye at one time thought Timothy might be the father and said she discounted it because Reuben was not mentioned in his will. As much as Reuben and son, Elias Butler Queen, named children around family members, I figure the fact that they did not use the names "Henson" or "Timothy" would mean neither was the father or grandfather. The name both used was "Samuel", and Elias B. used "William", "John", and "James", too. So I was exploring Samuel and Dicey Rolls Queen as Reuben's parents. The marriage and birth dates would work--md. 1782, Reuben born ca. 1786. And the DNA comparison looks interesting. Frankly I don't know any way to prove it without documents -- and I know of none. Rolla protests that his "Francis" was not a son of Old William--and there may not be another"Francis" in the records, though others have suggested a connection. Long live King Rolla! [I wish he would locate that slab marker for his earliest relative's grave. It should have been too big to be moved easily--unless someone broke it up for stepping stones. I think we should mount an expedition for the grave site--maybe by helicopter? Imagine what information that stone might have carved on it! ] Katy

    3. So sorry to hear of the death of your Uncle Tom, Jim. It is always sad to lose a family member -- "Our loss, Heaven's gain." I think most genealogists and family-hunters believe they are honoring those who have gone before by remembering them on paper, leaving a remembrance for others coming behind. Much as we honor a loved one in the cemetery with a visiit and flowers, even our DNA record is a remembrance. Your recent contact with Uncle Tom was a blessing to him for sure. 1. Looking for Henson Queen
    2. GlendaP
    3. Hello guys - Old Williams supposed son Henson Queen who married Sarah Hampton - remember him. I have been attempting to compile census data on Henson and children. I'll be glad to share when and if I ever get done :*) (Part of this process is a William and a John.) Have Henson as follows 1790 Montgomery County NC 1800 Montgomery County NC 1810 ???? (I would think Montgomery or Rutherford CO NC) 1820 Rutherford County NC Based on will (probated 1826) he had two sons John and William. I have William having a William Jr. in 1810 in NC. If I could find Henson in 1810 it could tie down which William is which --- maybe. Thanks for your help. Glenda

    1. Re: [QUEEN] Queen Chart for "Old William"
    2. Rolla Queen
    3. Katy, There is no documentary basis for including Francis Queen (1751) as the fifth son of William. Unless we are talking about a different Francis than my Francis. And so far, there is no documentary basis to support a birth year of 1751. The DNA at this point is not completely conclusive, but coupled with family lore, would seem to rule our Francis out as related to the Old William line. If anyone can bring any data to bear on this, I would be most interested. However, we descendants of Francis are certainly willing to entertain thoughts and leads and documentary evidence that would support a link between Francis and Old William, even if that link is extra-marital. 1. Old North State or the Tar Heel State
    2. RITAB
    3. a.. http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/nc/symbols/symbols.htm b.. Nickname, The Old North State or The Tar Heel State In 1629, King Charles I of England "erected into a province," all the land from Albemarle Sound on the north to the St. John's River on the south, which he directed should be called Carolina. The word Carolina is from the word Carolus, the Latin form of Charles. When Carolina was divided in 1710, the southern part was called South Carolina and the northern, or older settlement, North Carolina. From this came the nickname the "Old North State." Historians have recorded that the principal products during the early history of North Carolina were "tar, pitch, and turpentine." It was during one of the fiercest battles of the War Between the States, so the story goes, that the column supporting the North Carolina troops was driven from the field. After the battle the North Carolinians, who had successfully fought it out alone, were greeted from the passing derelict regiment with the question: "Any more tar down in the Old North State, boys?" Quick as a flash came the answer: "No, not a bit, old Jeff's bought it all up." "Is that so; what is he going to do with it?" was asked. "He's going to put on you-un's heels to make you stick better in the next fight." Creecy relates that General Lee, upon hearing of the incident, said: "God bless the Tar Heel boys," and from that they took the name (Adapted from Grandfather Tales of North Carolina by R.B. Creecy and Histories of North Carolina Regiments, Vol. III, by Walter Clark).

    3. Samuel Queen and Dicey Rolls may have been married 8 Sept. 1782. 1. A copy of the marriage bond was online at <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~donegaleire/Qdoc2.html> I can no longer locate that web page, but I have looked at it several times in the past. The original recorded bond is almost illegible. It has been indexed as 21 February 1788, but one researcher who looked at this in the North Carolina Archives said that it could just as well be 21 February 1782. The later makes more sense in light of the affidavit in Samuel Queens Revolutionary War Pension file which stated that the marriage took place 8 Sept. 1782. 2. From Samuel Queen's Revolutionary War Pension application, we have the following (which supports the 1782 date). Rev. War pension #R8541, Samuel Queen State of Georgia, Union County "On this 25th day of Oct. 1853 personally appeared in open court before me...Lewis Queen, a resident of the county and state aforesaid. Who being duly sworn according....declares that he is the son and Heir of the identical Samuel Queen who was a private in the company......... That he died the 22nd day of August AD 1842, that his mother named Dicy Queen died the 13th day of Sept. AD 1849 and that they were married the 8th day of September in the year 1782 and that they were residents of the County of Rutherford and State of NC and that they resided there 20 years....." 3. Samuel is shown on the 1790 NC census with wife, a son, and daughter in Lincoln County. I had son Henson as that one son being born between 1788-1790. However, if son Henson was born later in the year 1790 after the census count, then maybe that first son was Reubin. 4. Samuel Queen household, 1800 Federal census, Rutherford County, N.C: 21010-21010. (2 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 26-45; 2 female under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 26-45.) If son Harmon was born in 1800 after the census court, then Reubin could still be the oldest son. 5. Samuel Queen household, 1810 Federal Census, Buncombe County, North Carolina, p. 95: 22101-11201 (2 males under 10, 2 males 10-15, 1 male 16-25, 1 male over 45; 1 female under 10, 1 female 10-15, 2 females 16-25, 1 female over 45). If Reubin was the first born son, age 24, and gone from home- this would work. Has anyone located Reubin on the 1810 census in his own household? So, my conclusion is that Reubin could, indeed, be the eldest son of Samuel and Dicey. Any comments?

The court record (see below) showed the "8th day of September in the year 1782" as the date Samuel and Dicy were married. The date on the marriage bond had to be in 1782. Remember, Samuel Queen's Bible was "exhibited in open Court." What good would this have done if there was no information in it? Bible information was solid gold for proving births, deaths, marriages, and relationships in court, etc. One Queen tore the pertinent pages from his Bible and submitted them with his pension application. There are two dates associated with a marriage bond -- the date the marriage bond is issued and the date the marriage takes place. Sometimes it is the same day, sometimes it is some time increment(s) latter. If you look through the NC Marriage Bond transcriptions you will find some of them do show both a bond date and a marriage date. So, 21 Feb 1782 is the bond date and 8 Sep 1782 is the marriage date for Samuel and Dicy (Rolls) Queen. It is usually the responsibility of the person performing the marriage to see that the marriage is properly recorded. James B. 3. I have updated the web-sheet with the final results for 26707. I have also started the house-cleaning of the web-data and you will see that reflected in the current sheet. I have also saved the current sheet up in an expanded view for your use for a few days. Please let me know where names, dates, and places are not correct. Changes to the web-spread-sheet include: 1) Elimination of the 3 outstanding tests that appear will not be returned. 2) Correcting and standardizing the appearance of the confirmed and unconfirmed groups. 3) Limiting the spreadsheet to only the display of the YDNA test. We have one MTDNA test. I just don't know how it should be displayed and analyzed at this point and will be working with the participant to try to figure something out. As you can see, we only have one outstanding new test at the lab awaiting results. We have several tests for which upgrade results are expected shortly. I am holding off making any big-picture statements until at least one of the upgrade tests return. Gene can correct me, but as I remember, during the American Revolution, the bravery of the North Carolina troops in holding their position in the face of overwhelming fire from the British troops caused one of the generals to state that they stuck to their ground as if they had "tar on their heels". There must be an official Tar Heel website that should tell all. Maybe someone can turn up the link. Surnames: Queen Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3YBBAEB/522.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi, What is the date and place of birth for Willis Queen? I have a Willis Queen born about 1843 in Georgia or Mississippi who migrated to Arkansas at least before 1910. I believe his first wife to have been Vinney Catherine Willis and his second wife to have been a Susan. He died Aug 30, 1928 and is buried in the Carolan Cemetery in Logan county, Arkansas. I believe his father was John Queen of Tishomingo county, Mississippi (born about 1803-1810 in North Carolina) and his mother, Elizabeth Unknown (born about 1824 in Georgia). Does this sound familiar to you? Luann

    1. Proof of Samuel & Dicey Marriage
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. The only proof I have is an extract of their marriage bond with a reported date of 2-21-1788 and a copy of the pension claim for Samuel in which their son, Lewis Queen, certifies regarding Samuel and Dicy Queen that "they were married the 8th day of September in the year 1782". (I don't know which date is correct.) 1. Fw: [QUEEN] Samuel and BN Queen
    2. Katy McMillen
    3. The DNA has Nolan's #24329 almost the same as the other Samuel participants. I just assumed we had arrived at that understanding. Then I was reading old Q-List messages and saw where Dicey Rolls and Samuel married in 1788. HOWEVER:[Since Reuben, our ancestor, appears in the censuses to probably have been born about 1786, he is unlikely to be Dicey and Samuel's child.] So I am asking: IS THE DICEY/ SAMUEL marriage date 1788 correct?
