Well fans, as you remember from our last episode, Pat and I were packing for our trip to Scotland a couple of years ago, when the world suddenly tilted on 9-11 and we were forced to cancel. Here we go again, so I'm looking for recommendations, etc. We land in Glasgow on 9/2/05 (only $507 bottom line per person roundtrip on US Air through Orbitz) We immediately drive north to Oban (jet-lag be damned) and settle in to acclimate ourselves. Then next we're off to Skye and the ancient homelands of the MacQueens (Has anyone heard of the MacQueen B&B in Kyle of Lochash?) After exhausting ourselves on Skye, we'll meander through the NW Coast and then over to the Inverness area. Next, through the Highlands to the North Sea coast to spend a must-see at Dunnattor Castle where John MacQueen was held under protest. Then south to Edinburgh to see the sights and visit the Harbor at Leath where John MacQueen set sail in 1685. In a day or two or three we will fly Ryan Air from Edinburgh to Dublin where we hookup with Irish Tours for a 5 day trip around Ireland, finishing in Shannon. We fly back to Glasgow and after a few days of sightseeing we point West to San Francisco. Can't hardly wait ! Don Queen

Katy/Charlton: Copperhill TN was mentioned by my father when he shared his family stories. "They" visited family in Copperhill, but he was too young to know the relationship. Copperhill isn't far from Murphy or Hayesville NC--just across the border. I've been there, and tried unsuccessfully to contact the owners of the Queen Furniture company in "downtown" Copperhill. Hi, Charlton. Are you up with Jackson? Has he grown? I have news. James Davis Queen has sent a story about his grandfather who lost his job [1929] at the Tennessee Copper Co. [Copper Hill TN]. He disappeared leavng his wife and 12 children in TN and made his way to "East Texas" and worked in the oil fields-big money. A year later he returned home to the farm [Polk Co. TN]. I thought of you and your story that Robert Newton Queen moved from Copper Hill to Navarro Co TX before 1910. I got into my Texas Almanac, here's what I found: The first of the Texas oilfields was the one in Corsicana, Navarro County---1894. The field is still pumping. [ Spindletop, the big field east of Houston was discovered in 1901.] There's a tall chance James D.'s grandfather was in that area--his name was Davis Graham Queen, born 1880. [Of course, he was only in the oilfields circa 1929-1930, then back to TN.] Could he and Robert Newton Queen have been kin? If I remember correctly, Robert Newton had lived in the Copper Hill TN before going to Texas. Anyway--contact James D. and ask some questions: --> [email protected] Katy [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charlton Queen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 17, 2005 9:37 PM Subject: [QUEEN] Jackson Queen pic > Hey Everyone, > > The link for Jackson's hospital photo is: > > http://www.clarkregional.org/nursery/default.asp?p=view&a=Q&i=1415 > > > Charlton > aka "Proud Papa" > > > ==== QUEEN Mailing List ==== > RootsWeb Threaded Mailing List archives > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ > QUEEN YDNA PROJECT > http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=X96855&special=True > http://www.ysearch.org/ > > ============================== > Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree. Jackson is a great name. Congratulations grandpa. I couldn't help but chuckle with the "Jackson" name which I think is great. We have a grandson Jackson Mattek age 11 in Salina Kansas. Imagine our delight when Jim's cousin's son named his son Jackson--another Jackson Mattek. And the Mattek surname in the U.S. is all from the same Czech ancestor. And we thought we had lots of John Queens and Hampton Queens. Names have their cycles too. Phyllis Queen Mattek, descendant of Hampton Queen (one of them) Katy McMillen <[email protected]> wrote: Wonderful!--I have a complaint--he's not bald. Regarding the previous post...... Perhaps the James C. McQueen is really a McQueen. Perhaps he was born the same year as James C. Queen Perhaps his wife, Martha M. was born the same year and had the same name as wife of James C. Queen Perhaps it was merely coincidence that he lived next door to the other Queens, sons of James C. Queen Perhaps Hugh Queen was Hugh McQueen and James C. went back to the old name. In any event, Austin McQueen shows up on the 1910 and 1920 census of Anderson County, SC Gene ----- Original Message ----- From: "O Eugene Queen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 16, 2005 12:04 AM Subject: [QUEEN] Hugh Queen ca 1808-1811 > Looking for more recent info on some Anderson County, SC Queens: > > 1900 census: > Queen (erroneously listed as McQueen), James C., b.
