I don't think it's "Moutair". Appears that ancestry dot com's indexer didn't know what to use, so just left it off the index. I like "Martin". Sure was glad to see that "Dud" was Dudley. Thanks to Jean and Katy, we now have more useful information concerning DNA possibilities with Reuben Queen. The reported most recent common ancestor of the donor of kits 24329 and 29369 is none other than Reuben, himself. (Kit 30850 was a mtdna kit) Wide open suggestion in view of the results of these two samples: For now, treat the lineage thru Samuel to Reuben as stopping at Samuel. Treat the lineage thru Elias to Reuben as stopping at Elias. Thus, we're looking for additional donors of the Samuel Queen lineage and of the Elias Queen lineage. Samuel Queen (firstborn son?) (b. 1819 NC d. 1908) m. Jane Petty ...Sterling Queen (b. 1861 d. 1899TX) m. Laura Ann Lee ......Robert Benton Queen (b. 1899 TX d. 1982 TX) m. Viola Smith .........Son .........DNA sample exists from the Robert B. Queen lineage ......Sudie Queen m. Mr. Townsend ......Charlie Queen .........Son 1 .........Son 2 Q: Did this Samuel Queen have other sons? Q: Did this Sterling Queen have other sons? DNA priorities - Find a donor through another son of Samuel if one exists. 2d choice - Find a donor down the Charlie Queen lineage. Objective is to confirm the DNA of kit 29369 and "push" that result as far up the tree as is possible to find the probable point of mutation. Next challenge: Elias Butler Queen, Sr. 6 sons, including Elias B. Queen, Jr. - Who are these 6 sons and are there male descendants of the remaining 5 of these sons? Elias B. Queen, Jr. 8 sons, including Nolan, Sr - Who are these 8 sons and are there male descendants of the remaining 7 of these sons? DNA priorities - Find a donor through another son of Elias Queen, Sr. if one exists. 2d choice - Find a donor down the lineage of another son of Elias, Jr. Objective for this kit 24329 is same as that with kit 29369. Push that mutation as far up the tree as is possible. How can I help? Gene
Hi Guys - Greetings from Kansas, home of the BAK. The trip to Jewell went well, and as usual you gain information, and then you have questions. It was a fun trip to the past in my mind anyway as we drove and I thought about what this part of Kansas looked like in 1870's when William H. Queen and family came to Jewell County, I've accumulated more knowledge of the county history since I've been up there. The Wallace Cemetary actually has a sign with an index and map. On the index is listed all the Queens I know and then Cyrus Queen with the same 'plot number' as my grandfather John Queen and Jennie Ferbrache. Back we walk, and next to John and Jennie is a Cyrus Carpenter. Back we walk to the sign, in the index is a Cyrus Carpenter with the same number. SO I'm thinking we have a slip of the eye when typing, and Cyrus Queen doesn't exist he's Cyrus Carpenter. (Of course Cyrus Carpenter isn't listed in 1870 in Kansas in the census either.) I have put out some queries and am looking for a contact name for cemetary to see if there are written records. (I'm doubtful there will be any written records, Jewell County was barely settled, but it never hurts to ask.) And actually dawned on me this morning, there is a lot of 'empty' space around William H. Queen's tombstone, duh, unmarked graves?, so there is more than one reason to pursue written records. Question - William H., wife, and daughter all have one tombstone. Wife died 1916. Daughter died 1885. Was stone put up later, or did they have the ability to engrave stone onsite earlier. Dates I have in database don't match exactly to tombstone. Oh the challenge of confirming data. With our wanderings in the country, we actually end up at Mankato, with the Bethel Cemetary or McGeehee Cemetary not found in the country, and I look at my husband who is trying hard to be patient. I say I'll tell you what let's go on up to Mankato and see if we can find the cemetary there. A quick stop at a gas station, with a gal who looks about 16 working there, I think oh no this won't work, but an older man walks in, who knows where the cemetary is. No sign or index at this cemetary, so I walk and walk, and finally surrender to the fact that I need more information or more patience to find the Queens I'm looking for, more letters to write :*) Two women stop in their car and ask who are you looking for, and believe it or not, they knew them, but they couldn't tell me where grave site was, or the other Queen that is supposed to be buried there. Thanks to those of you who read to end, and I know some of you are thinking you need to be writing these stories down for your children, and guess what by posting this message I've got a start. Keep searching guys. Glenda
Am I reading the below lineage correctly? If not, I'd appreciate corrections. If yes, then an important question is who is the most recent common ancestor of Kit 24329 and Kit 29369? This question would be of the highest priority for me at the moment. For me, the next highest priorities, in no specific order, would be: 1) Follow-through with a sample from a descendant of Samuel (b. 1819) and 2) Identify the most recent common ancestor of the two kits noted above - then develop a plan to confirm that kit #24329 is the dominant DNA. Funding the samples is not a cause of concern. Funds can be found. What's important at this point is the follow-through on kit 30850 and identifying a "proper" donor for confirming kit 24329. Katy: Sounds great! Thanks for ideas on how to address this situation. As a matter of fact, just the thought has me up at dawn to begin pulling the info together! I have found marriage records for all Hence and Nancy's children to include the daughters. But finding descendants has not been easy (is it ever easy?). Just this year descendants of the oldest son, Jeremiah, were found by a post on QUEEN-L. They believed their Queen line was through Isaac and Ruth Hunt Queen, but Vicky Hutchings graciously provided enough census data to sway the "jury." However, we have yet to find a willing DNA donor from this line. I will reattack and reevaluate the information I have. I will also check with my elderly source for Queen information to see if she can find yet another cousin. At 87 and legally blind (macular degeneration), she has a tremendous memory and loves to talk--what a great combination. She remembers an Anderson relative, but did not know the relationship until I told her. At Gene's suggestion, I looked for and found another donor for Kit 26707's branch. I talked to his nephew on Monday and was surprised he was such a willing participant. I ordered the kit. Hi Folks Who is J. Hampton Queen? Before 1800. Who is Joseph H. Queen? Before !800? From the Home of Jimmy and JoAnne Redmond Sr
Hi Folks I been dragging a stick in the mud, setting under my shed here trying to stay dry. My mind has pondered a lot. You know, proof is sometimes hard to come by. I don't have much proof, so when proof is not available I was taught (by a very steer old Colonel) you must use logic. So I don't have proof, but what if? Father 1. 1775 0 75 Kit #24403 2. Are they brothers and sons of #1 1796 21 52 Kit #23661 1806 31 48 Kit #28391 3. Are they brothers or sons of which one, 1796 or 1806. 1823 48 31 Kit #24404 1827 52 21 Kit #29459 4. Son of 1823 or 1827. 1850 75 0 Kit #25626 Joseph's (kit #29459) first child was born 27 Nov. 1856, and was a girl. The question is what son belongs to who. Anyone have the answers? From the Home of Jimmy and JoAnne Redmond Sr
My son is rolling along in Kansas on the "2005 Biking Across Kansas" trek--some 539 miles starting 6/4/05. go to: www.bak.org and clic on the route. Then click on "Elkhart"or is it "Elkhorn"? Anyway click on the town and it tells you this: "Santa Fe Trail Ralroad headed southwest from Dodge City and the towns of Rolla, Wilburton, and Elkhart sprang up along the southern border because of the tracks." Katy
Gene, Rolla, etal--the reason we say REUBEN is because that is ALL we can authenticate. Reuben Queen born 1786 [figured from census] born NC, don't know his parents. [Reuben's sons Samuel b.1819 NC and Elias Butler Queen b. 1821 NC came to TN, ARK, and TX-(1848) with Reuben (who died in TX). Reuben b. ca.1786 NC--ca. 1863 Mills Co.? TX. [had only 2 sons, to our knowledge]: Samuel b. ca.1819NC and Elias Butler Queen md. Petty sister md.2nd? Petty sister (only one marriage) 3rd md. M.J. Barber _________Samuel's family: (b. ca. 1821) [not clear on which son], but Sterling Queen is father of #30850 [Ask Jean Moyers]. ________Elias" B's family: 5 dau. 6 sons------------- Son : Elias B. Queen Jr. 1856-1925 4dau. 8 sons; Son Nolan Queen died 1946; then, his son, our Nolan Queen, #24329 of Weatherford, TX. [whose son passed away in 2003?]. Now what do you suggest? Katy
Hey Rita, There appears to be a fire going here--I'm trying to think creatively--perhaps we could find some answers to at least one of your questions--BY ADVERTISING. Now, wait a minute: my best guess is "Nancy Queen's two daughters" in the 1860 census. 1.The girls may have kept a better record of "what-happened -to-Hence?" then their brothers did. 2. Find who each girl married--between 1870 and 1880?--if possible. 3. Write up your story, giving the girl's married names [also tell what happend to Mrs. Nancy Queen-was she near her relatives?]. Make it short. 4. Ask questions--a. "what-happened-to-Hence?"; Where are the girls? What happened to Nancy? Was Hence a miner? etc. Then the biggy: "Is there a Family Bible with dates?" WRITE A SHORT STATEMENT INTO A QUERY that we can broadcast. 5. Then I suggest posting a query with: a) Genealogy Society of Old Tryon County, 102 W. Main, Forest City, NC 28043; Or call, 828-247-8700; and ask where it would be best for you to advertise. b) Send query to any local historical society, whether or not they publish; or advertise in an important local newspaper. c. Then I suggest Queen-L DNA-ers get together and advertise in local newspapers, Remembering to collect any and all Queens replying so that we can try to get them into DNA. [That's sort of my job--I just need leads-KSM] I'll put up the first $30 to advertise to find: 1) DNA prospects, or 2) Any connection to Hence of 1823 GA.
