    3. Don, As I have posted before, there are records at NARA concerning about 13 "Eastern Cherokee", among them are: #15804 Lucindy Queen, NC; #15776 Jasper Queen; #15776 Simpson Queen, Guardian, NC; #42920 Simpson Queen NC. These are from: "Index to Applications submitted for the Eastern Cherokees Roll of 1909 (Guion Miller Roll) 1909-1910", [use NATF forms 83, one form for each number]. SEE: [email protected] For this family I would also recommend looking at #42918 Sallie Queen and #42917 Levi Queen [because of the proximity of the numbers]. The records should show the family relationships and possibly tie them to the family you list below. Is this your family, or do you know anyone connected to them? [I have ordered from this NARA microfilm and was pleased with the information I got on on my Barber family, in-laws of Martha Jane (Barber) Queen, wife of Elias Butler Queen.]. 2. Eugene, I have a page of Queens I got out of the Gastonia NC Phone Book. I called a few, but no luck with my line, and the one who had the same name as his father, I wrote a letter, and it was returned to me and then I found on the web he had passed away. The ones I am looking for are descendents of my Great Uncles William Grant Queen and Wade Hampton Queen. I am going to go down the list and ask if they are related to either and if not, what line do they descend from. These uncles are Jamison Queen and Annie's sons and the brothers of Pinkney Gaither Queen, my grandfather. They are some Queens here in my area, Birmingham, Al. Thomas Queen, b. 1753, and is buried in Madison Co., Al. I believe is the son of Old William. I am going to call them and ask if they are Thomas' descendents. Wish me luck. Nancy Wiley

    3. I've just had a crazy thought - one of many I suppose. Please go get your local phone book right now. Yep, right now. V V V V waiting V V waiting Hi, that was fast. Okay, please turn the pages to "Mac". Count the number of "Mac" Queen and "Mc" Queen listings. There's 5 in mine. Brandi McQueen on Potts Creek Road Edward Queen in Winston-Salem Henry McQueen on Holloway Church Road down near our little farmette (too small to call it a little farm) Joetta McQueen, Attorney at Law over in Thomasville Ted McQueen on Liberty Drive in Thomasville Would y'all believe that I have not called a single one of them and they're right here in my backyard! Wonder where they came from? Wonder if one of them has info regarding their family history? Wonder which ones, if any, are African-Americans? Wonder which ones aren't? Wonder who is the oldest living Mac/McQueen they know? Wonder if they'll guide me to him or her? Hmmmmm. I think I'll call the one near my little farmette and see if I can strike up a conversation. Gosh, what if he has a Scottish accent? What if she doesn't? It's late, so I won't call tonight. I'll think about it a while and sorta plan on what to say. ............................ I suppose that there's 75 - 100 folks on Queen-L. If each one of us would call some nearby Mac/McQueen folks, I betcha we could find a dozen or so by the week-end that would really carry on a conversation with us. Shucks, we could even agree to research their family tree a bit. Then we could screen the "candidates" and easily get 3-5 of 'em to participate in our DNA project. We'd order the 12 marker sample to keep costs down and to screen the candidates for DNA similar to ours. We'd even make some friends in the process. ....................... Sound crazy? Well that's my middle name. ............Scary thought to call a total stranger? We'll here's a little true story that may make some sense...... In '61 I joined Uncle Sam's army and was stationed at Ft Jackson, SC. I was living in the barracks. My clothes were put away and I was in my ah, um, underwear, ready for bed when I had a really big urge for a soft drink. There was a drink machine across the road from the barracks. Cars travelled that road and there were people in those cars. I wanted a drink real bad, but I didn't want to put my clothes on. I would just dart across the road, get my drink, and dart back to the barracks. But....a terrible thought crossed my mind. What if someone saw me with nothing on but my underwear? V V Conclusion: I wouldn't know them and they wouldn't know me. So what difference would it make? Result: I ran across the road and got my drink. Remember, I really, really wanted that drink. Think about it. How many Mac/McQueens will you call over the next week? It may make all the difference in the world. Gene

    1. Queen DNA Project
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Thanks to the participation, either with funding or providing samples, by a number of descendants of Alfred Queen of 1810 we now have two more samples in the works. Kit 38162 is a sample of my brother, Boyd. Kit 39018 is a sample from a descendant of Joseph Thadius Queen (b. 9-6-1875 Jackson County). Joe was a brother to my grandfather, William Monroe Queen. With this latest sample, all three sons of Rev. James Henry Queen (b. 1847) will be represented in the DNA project. Alfred Queen had 7 sons, however 1 son remained single and 1 son had only female descendants. This leaves 5 sons with possible donors. Two of the sons are respresented, I'm still begging descendants of two other sons. I'll begin work on the lineage of the one remaining son. Clearly the Alfred Queen lineage is blessed with a number of male descendants that allows for broad DNA participation. It is my hope that other lineages will benefit from what we learn from mutations in the Alfred Queen lineage. Gene

    1. Mutations - Another Look
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. Greetings Listmates, In a recent posting I made the statement that the first documentation of a random mutation on allele 464c was with Albert Henson Queen, his son, or grandson. This appears to be an incorrect statement. I'd like to share some observations for the evaluation and comments of others. 1. The Hence Queen (b. 1823) lineage to donor of kit 24404 carries the same DNA as does old William Queen. Thus, Hence was most likely a descendant of William. The donor of kit 26707 of the Hence lineage has a random mutation on allele 464c; otherwise his is the same as old William. He, too, likely descends from William through Hence. The mutation likely occurred between the donor and his most recent common ancestor with the donor of kit 24404. 2. The Samuel Queen (b. 1759) lineage to donor of kit 35107 carries the same DNA on the first 25 markers as does old William. (No update to 37 is planned.) Thus, when considered with donor of kit 26983 of the Samuel lineage, this donor is most likely a descendant of old William. (Samuel is documented.) The donor of kit 26983 has a random mutation on allele 464c; otherwise his is the same as old William. The mutation likely occurred between the donor and his most recent common ancestor with the donor of kit 35107. 3. The Alfred Queen (b. 1810) lineage to donor of kit 31268 carries the same DNA as does old William except for a mutation on allele 464c. The mutation likely occurred between the donor and his g.grandfather, John R. Queen (b. ca 1854). Since John's brother, James Henry Queen (b. 1847) apparently had a single mutation on allele 447, it is likely that the DNA of John R. Queen, himself, had no mutation from that of old William. (Additional tests are in process or planned for the Alfred lineage in an attempt to provide solid documentation.) DNA results thus far lead me to the conclusion that 19 donors clearly link back to old William. The donor of kit 29639 probably does not link back to Reuben Queen, however the donor of kit 24329 does, therefore Reuben links back to old William. These results suggest to me that we must be careful when comparing identical mutations on the fast-mutating alleles. We could falsely assume a more close relationship than actually existed with a donor of an identical mutation. Yes, I'm tentatively putting John R. Queen (b. ca 1854) "back in" the Alfred Queen family and concluding that his absence from the family on the 1860 census was merely an omission of the census taker. Gene

    3. Yesterday, I posted census listings for 1910 and 1920 for Reuben R. Queen. Those listings, as it turns out, are for a different Reuben Queen. The correct 1910 listing shows his widow and children, next to Reuben's brother Thomas (as Gene pointed out): 1910 census, Caney Fork, Jackson co., NC (SD 10, ED 84, sheet 4B) # 60/60 Queen Nannie head F W 28 widow m. 13 yrs. 6 children, 5 living b. NC "Nannie" doesn't quite match with "Fannie", and the age doesn't quite match, but at least the time married does, and she is next door to Thomas Queen, and close to Albert and Samuel. By 1920, Fannie is married to Lloyd Rogers. The Lorena above is listed as the daughter of Lloyd Rogers. Farrell, Ocie and Carl are there also. Fred is next door with his grandparents John H. Parker and Patty? Don Erickson, Colorado Springs CO USA [email protected]

    3. Don, Ancestry has them indexed under Nannie Queen, 1910 Series T624, Roll 1116, Part 1, Page 162B. Caney Fork Twp, Jackson County, NC: Queen, Nannie Carl Fred Fariel (?) Osa Laren (?) Carl also appears to be the Carl R. Queen on 1930 Transylvania County census with first wife, Bessie Woods, and Pauline and Dorothy A. I also went back to the 1900 Caney Fork census and found: HH95, Lewis, Lucinda and son Albert Next John Dawson and Laura (Laura Ellen May Queen) dau of Lewis and Lucinda Next Ruben, Fannie and Burton (apparently Carl Burton or Burton Carl) .....As for me, I'm now adequately convinced that the documentation is there that this Reuben R and Albert Henson were sons of Rev John Lewis (Luke) Queen and his wife Lucinda. Thus, the first documentation of a random mutation on allele 464c. This being with Albert Henson Queen, his son, or grandson. 1. John R. of 1854 and Samuel of 1759?
    2. O Eugene Queen
    3. The adoption of John R. Queen of 1854 possibility is merely one of several possibilities. (The best info I have thus far regarding the particular birth is that the child in question may have been named Hooper.) If the currently identified mutation in the Samuel Queen of 1759 lineage occurred with the birth of a son, Alfred Henson Queen, in 1879; then apparently this John R. did not descend from the Samuel Queen lineage. Tentative conclusions (ignoring the back mutation issue): 1. The YDNA of Samuel of 1759 was identical to that of his father. 2. A mutation occurred with Albert Henson Queen, his son, or his grandson. 3. A mutation occurred with John R. Queen of 1854, his son, grandson, or great grandson. (This conclusion may be totally unrelated to 1 and 2) Actions needed: 1. Solidly confirm the relationship of Reuben R. Queen and Albert Henson Queen. 2. Identify the point of mutation in the Albert Henson Queen lineage. 3. Identify the point of mutation in the John R. Queen of 1854 lineage. In her book of Aug 24, 1992, Dorothy Queen Conner has included a page from a Bible that contains the following on the Births page written by hand: R. R. Queen was born May the 25th 1871 Albert H. Queen was born March the 12th 1879. Regretably, the handwriting from the first birth of 1854 to the last birth of 1879 appears identical and the pen or pencil used appears to have been identical. On the deaths page this: R. R. Queen Dide Oct the 28th 1906. On pg 23 of her book, Dorothy records Rueben R. Queen b. May 25, 1871 married 2/13/1898 Fannie Parker b. Jan 10, 1881 d. June 22, 1931 d. Oct. 28, 1906 I'm still digging. I could have worded the message better. I'm tinkering with, working with, pondering in my mind and questioning the reliability of my data regarding this lineage. It appears to be correct; but I wanted input from others. My reading of the census data you provided in your response is that Reuben R. Queen (b. Aug 1873) was a brother to an Albert H. Queen (b. ca 1879). Further, that their father was a Rev. Lewis Queen (b. ca 1830) and their mother was a Lucinda Queen (b. ca 1837). I'd like to have more solid data concerning two specific individuals (Reuben R. and Albert H.) I have in my files records from Jackson County that reflect: A Lewis Queen married a Lucinda Brown on 5-1-1854. An Albert Henson Queen died 4-15-1943. His father is printed as "Leinisy" Queen and his mother's maiden name as Lucinda Brown. A Claude Henry Queen died 10-20-1984. His father was an Albert Queen; his mother's maiden name Ellen Brown. A Louis Author Queen died 8-29-1987. His father an Albert Queen; his mother's maiden name Ellen Brown. A Mary Jane Queen was born 9-5-1906. Her parents - Albert Queen and Ellen Brown. An examination of the death certificate of Albert Henson Queen should clear up any question regarding the name of his father; however I do not have a copy of such certificate. A copy of the death certificate of Reuben R. Queen would, likewise, probably confirm the name of his father. Again, I do not have a copy. Does any listmate have the death certificates of the two individuals (Reuben and Albert)? Thanks, Gene

    3. Hi guys - I'm with Don I like rules also, that way you know when you've won the game .... but here we go. It appears that we have two brothers, both sons of Rev. John Lewis Queen (descendent of Samuel 1759). We have one living descendent who is one mutation off, and another who matches Old William perfectly. So it would appear that the DNA of Samuel 1759 would match old William perfectly. No proof of these lines in my hands other than census data posted. The only glitch I see if I'm remembering correctly is the speculation that we had about John R. Queen, 1854 fitting in this line somewhere as a child out of wedlock. Can't lay my hands on the posts and searching is bringing up to many 'hits'. But the above theory would throw that out I think. Drats wish I find some of the posts - I might win a prize? Anyway - Tag - somebody else is it now. Glenda

    3. Gene, Don Erickson posted the census info, which matches the data I have in my program. John Lewis (Luke) Queen, Reverend married Lucinda Brown. Both are buried in John's Creek Cemetery in Jackson County. {{ MY NOTES:Lewis Queen was reported as pastor of John's Creek Church in the East Laport area in Branson's North Carolina Business Directory for 1872, 1877-78 and 1884.Magistrate in the Caney Fork Township, Jackson Co., NC in 1884 }} Reubin R. married Fannie Parker. Fannie was the daughter of Samuel Parker and Esther Carson. Fannie is buried in John's Creek Cemetery. Albert married Ellen Ingaline Brown and is buried in John's Creek Cemetery. Other than their kids and sibs that's all I have on them. CQ According to Chris Queen, his nickname was Luke. kids were Reubin R. & Albert H. This info came from the Chris Queen papers. {{ ----- Original Message ----- From: "O Eugene Queen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 28, 2005 6:13 PM Subject: [QUEEN] Samuel Queen of 1759 DNA > Who was Reuben R. 3. I can find Carl on the census, but the others should have been on the 1910 census. I don't see them. 3. Since we are on this subject, there is another brother to Reuben and Albert in the 1880 census; a Jasper L. Queen, which I think is Jasper Lee Queen. Is this the same as: 1900 census, Caney Fork, Jackson Co., NC (SD 9, ED 50, sheet 14) # 151/153 Queen Lee head W M May 1865 35 m. 15 yrs.
