    1. [QUEEN] Queen YDNA Fund
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. Greetings all, I've received a couple of inquiries concerning assistance with funding the 37-67 marker upgrade of kit 69696 (Elias for sure and hopefully old Richard). Please do NOT send any money to me. Anyone wishing to assist, please click on the following link to donate ($5, $10, $20, whatever): http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html For "Surname Project", specify QUEEN. For "In Memory of" block, specify KIT 69696. The total cost of this specific upgrade is $99. If more than this amount is donated, the surplus will remain in the fund for the next use approved by the Queen committee that administers this fund. Additional note: Within a few weeks we should have 12 marker results from a documented descendant of John Queen, Jr. and Martha Hickey. If the 12 markers look good, then this sample will also need to be upgraded. Thus, any surplus donations can be applied to this upgrade. This is NOT a request for funding; it is an offer to listmates who wish to do so to participate/have "ownership" in these samples. We have no idea what the markers will reveal. Thanks, Gene

    1. [QUEEN] Rolla's hair
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. I'll be the > good-looking bald guy waving wildly! > > Rolla Forget the waving wildly or the Rogaine stuff. If you really wanna grow hair, here's the story from an old Queen of Toot Holler back up in the Smokies: Shoot yerself a 'possum on a full moon night. Dress and bake the 'possum at 425 degrees for 2.5 hours... use a deep baking pan. After 2.5 hours, drain the grease into a mop bucket. To the grease add 2.5 handfulls of stuff from the cow stall. (Dried stuff) Stir for 2.5 minutes non-stop. Each night for 2.5 weeks, apply liberally to the bald areas. Cover the concotion with a heavy rag so as not to mess up the couch. (Yes, you'll be sleeping on the couch during the treatment period....if even in the house) After 2.5 weeks of treatment, check for hair growth. If there is growth, continue the treatment for 2.5 years or until you have enough. Disclaimer: I am neither a medical doctor nor a witch doctor. I'm only passing on what I heard. Me

    1. [QUEEN] DNA old Richard Queen?
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. Greetings all: 37 marker YDNA results are now in on kit 69696. Unless my old eyes have missed something, these 37 markers are a perfect match to the probable YDNA of William Queen of 1716-20. Anyone wish to assist in the funding of this sample up to the 67 marker level? If so, please make your donation to the Queen General Fund and specify upgrade kit 69696 in the "memory" section. The donor is a documented descendant of Elias Queen (b. ca 1815-1820) and Mary; thru the lineage of their son Alfred Bergin Queen (b. 5-1845). (The donor is not a member of) Queen-L.) It appears highly probable that Elias was a son of Richard Queen (b. 1765-1784) and married Margaret Snider in Rutherford County, N.C. on 3-27-1796. Thanks, and the best of the season to all. Gene

    1. [QUEEN] Tis the season for celebrating DNA!
    2. Rolla Queen
    3. DNA. Something we all can share with each other this holiday season - the basic building blocks of humanity in all its various expressions! For those of us interested in the specific Queen variety DNA, I wish you a great Christmas and hope that the year to come is better than the last, and that we all break through our brick walls - one way or another. Now, I have been sort of quiet lately. Got myself a little overextended with the kids, college applications, theatre productions, symphony concerts, work, and all sorts of activities that one president long ago called being a "thousand points of light". Well, I didn't reach a thousand, but felt like I got pretty dang close! As we move forward to the close of this year, I hope to relax (yeah, right!) and spend some time catching up with all the emails on the list that I marked of interest. There have been some new results posted - and I have continued to make changes to the web-spreadsheet to provide different ways to access and enjoy debating the results. I have also dropped the graphics from the pages. The pages were approaching 1 MB in size without the graphics and I know that makes for a long download for some of you. So I have simplified things, and at the top of the page, provided links to two versions of the results. I am also going to spend some time also working on the FTDNA results pages and making them easily available. Just takes a little time. I still need to get some lineage information from many of you to make the lineage version complete. Some may have provided, and I will find when I catch up on my emails. Anyway, come New Year's day, look for me in the grandstands at the Tournament of Rose Parade. My son's high school band is marching this year, and I think they are the last band in the parade, near the end! I'll be the good-looking bald guy waving wildly! Rolla

    1. [QUEEN] McQueen DNA Study
    2. Scott D Kendall
    3. I thought I would send a quick update about our McQueen DNA Study. We have 53 participants. I think this is great considering we started the project in April, 2006. We have had five transfers to our study from the Queen DNA Study. To date there are NO significant matches with the Queen DNA and the Macqueen, McQueen, McQuinn, McGinn, McGuinn and McQuain DNA in our study. Significant match meaning over 90% on any given number of markers. I use the 90% on our 43 marker test because anything less than that would not be genealogical important at this time. The participants matching less than 90% would have statistically shared a common ancestor greater than 20 generations ago. For our research purposes we have not proven past 10 generations in the McQueen Study. There are groups emerging from the study. They are currently defined as: The Virginia Line includes descendants of Alexander McQueen of Culpeper County, VA; Charles McQuinn of VA and Wilkes County, NC; Charles McQuinn of Baltimore County, MD and Daniel McQueen of Georgetown District, SC. The Yadkin River Basin Line includes descendants of Samuel McQueen of NC and now Johnson County, TN and John McQueen of VA and Estill County, KY. The Crawford County NY Line includes descendants of Robert McQueen of Crawford County, NY and John McQueen of Columbia County, WI. The Maryland Line includes descendants of Dugal McQueen of Baltimore County, MD. The New York Line includes descendants of Peter McQueen of Onondaga County, NY. I am presently working on a "DNA Findings" report for the study. Once I have it complete I will post a not on the list. Anyone who would like a copy can contact me privately, at that time, and I will forward them a copy. Thanks Scott

    1. [QUEEN] McGuinns of Rutherford County, NC
    2. Scott D Kendall
    3. Has anyone considered the McGuinn families in Rutherford County, NC as possible relatives to the Queens or McQueens? I have seen one reference to a Michael McQueen as being born about 1765 in Orange County, VA. Wasn't "Old William" supposed born in MD and some of his children in VA? I have a McQueen line, I believe, morphed to McQuinn and then to McGuin/McGuinn. I am waiting DNA testing to confirm this. Thanks Scott

    2. Scott D Kendall
    3. I wanted to share the significance since some Queen lineages who reports these men as their direct paternal ancestors I have been corresponding with a Macqueen in Isle of Bute. He agreed to participate in our McQueen DNA Study. He descends from Rev. Ewen Macqueen who "served the church both at Harris (1605) and Duirinish, Skye (1614). Ewen was the son of Angus Mor Macqueen and Jane Cameron. If you have any additional information on this line of Macqueen and Queens please share it with the list or contact me directly, Thanks Scott Kendall

    3. Getting lots of notices from FTDNA of matches/close matches at 12/25/37/67 markers only to find that the donor is not a "Queen" or have already concluded that 12 or 25 marker matches aren't necessarily important to track? FTDNA has an answer for you. Go to your donor webpage at FTDNA and select "Setup Preferences". There one has the option to restrict announcements to (Queen) surname only. Also may wish to deselect the box for notification at 12 markers or 25 markers. This will reduce the announcements to Queen only and for matches at 37 or 67 markers only. I have no recommendation as to what will best serve anyone; however I have made some decisions to reduce the announcements and listings for myself. Gene
