    1. [QUEEN] Bladen>Anson>Montgomery Counties, NC
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. Bladen Precinct was established in 1734 and later called Bladen County in 1739. She was named for Martin Bladen (1680 - 1746), Lord Commissioner of Trade and Plantation. Bladen appears to have mostly been settled by Highland Scots. Gabriel Johnston, who became Royal Governor in 1734, persuaded Highlanders from his native Scotland to come and settle in North Carolina. Several Highlanders came in the early 1730s. Alexander Clark brought several immigrants in 1736 from the Isle of Jura, Argyll County, Scotland. These men had suffered religious persecution and they were seeking freedom. Dougald McNeill and Colonel McAllister brought another 350 Scotsmen in 1739. These Scottish immigrants were not the first settlers of Bladen County. There were a few families already living on the Cape Fear before 1734. Several Quakers also settled Bladen in the 1740s. They were from Pennsylvania and Virginia. Above info taken from Bladen County genealogy webpage. A John Queen/MacQueen was in Anson (Bladen) clearing land before 1754. Wonder if he came from Scotland? Wonder if he was a Highlander? Anyone have any records of early migrations to Bladen County from Scotland, especially those with Dougald McNeill and Colonel McAllister? Gene

    3. Happy New Year everyone! Great things to come in 2007! Hey, don't forget to watch for the Riverside King High School Marching Band in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Last band in the parade. Look for the cute red-headed tenor sax player who ain't lost his hair yet! Parade is 5.4 miles long, plus at least 2 miles of walking on either side just to get into position and get back to the staging area. So he will be one TIRED boy when he is done, but he will be marching proud. Of course, he got in a little trouble at the hotel where the band is staying last night. When they were doing the room check, I guess he opened the door in his boxer shorts. That's my boy. A true chip off the old block. I'm surprised he had his boxer's on! Just hope he has his uniform on tomorrow! Rolla

    1. [QUEEN] before William Queen in Anson County, NC
    2. O. Eugene Queen
    3. Okay, so I'm slow at times. The YDNA of (maybe) John Queen of 1774 Montgomery (formerly Anson Co.) doesn't support William as his pa or grandpa at the 12 marker level. Could it be that we have stumbled upon a genetic linkage to old John Queen of Anson County? Was Henson of 1742 really a son of old William - or was he a son of old John Queen/MacQueen? Old William Queen was in VA at the birth of his son, William Lewis Queen, Sr. in 1749. We don't know the year in which William arrived in Anson County, N.C.; but it wasn't early enough to stake a claim as being the first Queen in Anson County. Gene, forget old William; flush him out of your mind. Forget him - as it relates to early Queen activity in Anson County. William was a VA guy. There was a John Queen in Anson County by 1754 who had already completed some land improvements. "Philbeck, "William Queen 1716-1801," 134. Anson County Land Entry, 14 December 1754, William Queen enters 100 acres beginning at the mouth of half mile branch that empties itself into Little River including John Queen's improvements." So, before 1754 there was a 21 year or older John Queen who had already been cuttin' trees and burning brush in Anson County. Little William Lewis Queen, Sr was only 5 yrs old at the time and had come down with his pa from VA. Wonder the names of the young sons who heped older John Queen? Wonder if one of those sons was named Henson? Anyone have proof of the pa of Henson of 1742? Documented, circumstantial or otherwise? Thanks, Gene ----- Original Message ----- From: "O. 1. [QUEEN] Henson, John, William and ????
    2. Carol A. Queen
    3. Hi All, Think I'll have some fun and pretend I am Gene and throw some data into this mix that might give us something to think about. Now that we are looking again at Henson and a John 1774 and Old William and since Gene brought up Philbeck's research again, here is a little bit of old stuff that we might look at with fresh eyes. Note that this land is in HAYWOOD CO. And to refresh us all, one of the Lewis girls (supposedly sisters to Old William's wife Margaret) married into the Middleton family. Might this indicate that Henson was at the least, a neighbor or friend of Old Wills family, if not his son? Book B, Pg 129 March 1820 Deeds (Grantees), Haywood Co., NC This Indenture made the fourth of March one thousand Eight hundred and twenty. Know all men by these presents that I THOMAS MIDDLETON of the State of NoCarolina and County of Haywood for and in consideration of the sum of Thirty Dollars to me in hand paid the receipt is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold unto HENSON QUEEN a Tract of land in said County, situated on the head of waters of a creek that runs into Caney Fork of Tuckaseigee River below SHOWNEY JOHNS Cabin, Beginning on a knotty white oak on a ridge opposite to the head of a branch that runs down by ELIJAH CHASTAINS house, thence No thirty East one hundred and twenty poles to a white oak, thence No sixty five East sixty poles to a hickory, thence So twelve west two hundred and fifty poles to a stake, thence North eight West one hundred poles to a stake, thence No ten East one hundred poles to the beginning containing one hundred acres originally granted to Thomas Middleton by his Excelency William Miller the 30th day of November 1816 Together with all the hereditaments therewith belonging or appertaining and all the Estate right title Interest claim or demand of me or my heirs - or out of the same and I do bind myself, Heirs - to warrant and defend the said land against myself and my ehirs and assigns and against all, every other person or persons whatsoever all back Taxes or overage of taxes that may come against said land, accept only in my name unto the said Henson Queen his heirs and assigns forever in fee simple. 1. [QUEEN] DNA study and mutation rates
    2. I've been kinda quiet on this topic, since I'm not a male Queen, and couldn't participate directly. But I AM participating in the KIDD DNA Project. And because I was 4 mutations (single mutation on four different markers) away from other participants, a statistically unlikely event, I had my dad tested. And I am two steps away from him! One step on 459B and one on 460. So either the lab made an error on my DNA, or I've "beat the odds," so to speak. And I've read that some families show a faster mutation rate than others. So don't give up, just because you can't account for some mutations. Reiley Kidd

    3. Reiley, I'm going to ask a typical Gene Queen foolish question. Regarding the citation below, do we know if the Road Docket, itself, listed "William Queen son of Henson" or if the transcriber inserted "son of Henson"? We could really use more info regarding this William. Oops, just wishful thinking out loud.
