FRANKFORT , New York The grass isn’t always greener. Oakview Cemetery in Frankfort has grass that hasn’t been maintained in quite some time. Public Eye was called in to try and fix the problem. The issue The saying is “knee high by the Fourth of July,” but it wasn’t meant to apply to overgrown grass at the cemetery. In an email to Public Eye, a reader pointed out that the grass had not been properly kept for the entirety of the season. The future When Public Eye came to investigate the complaint, the lawn was in the process of being partially mowed. As of Friday, members of the Oakview Cemetery board could not be reached. After contacting Eunice Hanson of the Frankfort Center Cemetery Association, it was discovered that Oakview Cemetery has its own board and isn’t affiliated with the association. Frankfort Town Supervisor Joseph Kinney said the town had received a formal letter from the cemetery board July 7 asking for aid, but the initial bids made by contractors were voted down. The town will ask contractors to again submit bids for the work, and Kinney is confident that the town will be able to move forward soon to help the cemetery with maintaining the property. “We as a town have periodically performed maintenance and the town has absorbed the cost,” Kinney said. “We can’t go in unless they request it. It costs a lot to maintain these cemeteries.” ( When I did this cemetery about 6 years ago, it was in fine shape then, Best Bill)
