    3. Repair work is being planned at a rural Union County cemetery where a number of tombstones were damaged by vandals. A report about vandalism was shared at last week's regular meeting of the Union County Board of Commissioners. The meeting was Friday morning at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro. Union County engineer Kevin Grammer said the vandalism occurred at the Progress Cemetery. The cemetery is located in the Water Valley area east of Cobden. The vandalism apparently occurred during the previous weekend. Progress is one of the many local cemeteries which is mowed by the Union County Highway Department. Grammer said that about 13 tombstones had been damaged. The commissioners approved a proposal by Grammer to move forward with plans to repair the damaged tombstones. Grammer said he would be working with another highway department employee on their own, along with local funeral home director Phil Hileman, on the repair project. The commissioners approved use of county equipment for the repair work. Some of the tombstones weigh as much as 4,000 pounds.
