Hi Linnie or anyone else with access to PRDH who wouldn't mind looking up to see if more information than what Linnie sent me many years ago as follows: per PRDH from Linnie 7/03 and MARIE LOUISE LOUVOIS DARAGON R-6778 Father : JEAN BAPTISTE LOUVOIS DARAGON R-7494 Mother : GENEVIEVE GRESLON LAVIOLETTE FONTAINE R-7495 ================ In Tanguay, Volume III, Page 324. her baptism date there is July 6th, 1709. Once again Tanguay shows the spelling of the name as DeLouvais which became Dragon in 1708. This appears reasonable to me. Many surnames changed in French culture depending on where the recording of the names were because of the French accent and sometimes English recorders attempting to write them down as they were said. I have found at least 9 variations on the Bedard surname in my travels. Tanguay could have used a Brothers Keeper program and a computer to consolidate his files. ================ I have no further info on this couple, but I am using what I found in the PRDH. It's possible that Drouin (RD) saw D'Aragon and assumed it was Quay dit D'Aragon. That "dit" name is used with both surnames. Don't know what else to tell you about this. Works such as Tanguay's dictionary were the cat's meow way back when it was practically impossible for family historians to have access to original records. That is no longer the case. The name is de Louvois, also spelled de Louvoy, was never deLouvais. He is called Jean de Louvois on his mariage record. And she, Geneviève Greslon. But the last "o" is very open and I can see why Tanguay (or, more likely, one of the persons doing the actual records reading for him) thought they saw an "a". D'Aragon (Daragon or more often Dragon) was his war name, his "dit name" if you prefer. It reflected a place name. "D'Aragon" actually means "from Aragon". He was, in fact, from Picherende, in Auvergne.
