Years ago in Canada and maybe even today, high school grads and university students would look for summer jobs as camp counsellors, life guards, bellhops, servers at resorts like Banff Springs Hotel and Lake Louise in Alberta, paddling trips through Ontario's lakes or working at Manoir Richelieu or Tadoussac in Quebec among others and learning a whole lot about life outside home. I spent a couple of summers at Manoir Richelieu in the 1950's and still in touch with friends I made there.
