Hi Selma, What you say makes sense. It could have been a planned visit for the purpose of bearing a child. Childbearing was in someone's home, usually one's own home or in the home of a very close relative or friend. A favored mid-wife and a few other women would usually be there for the event. The same thing happened at the earlier birth of Pierre's sister Catherine on 5 April 1790 at St. François, the parents being from St. Joseph. But I don't know who that close relative or friend would have been. On the other hand, even if the parents had been living at St. François for a couple years, the curé may have understood that as a temporary status. Four sibling births prior to Catherine and Pierre, beginning in 1783, were registered at St. Joseph-de-Beauce, as well as five births after Pierre, through 1804. And I've noticed births registered at St. Joseph with the annotation in the margin "de St. François." This Poulin family was basically rooted in St. Joseph. I will sent you a database extract from Bob Chenard's inventory of Beauce County records. Of interest is that two individual priests, one after the other, attended to both St. Joseph and St. François from 1783 to 1810. Antoine Lamotte was curé for all of the family's births at both parishes except the first two, beginning in 1785. He remained at St. Joseph until 1817. His predecessor, Joseph-Maurice Jean, served for about two years, 1783 to 1785. Al On Apr 21, 2014, at 12:15 PM, Selma Grant wrote: > Couldn't figure out what the ??Joseph meant. The reference is to the fact that the family was from the neighboring parish of St. Joseph-de-Beauce as were other members of our ancestor's family at that time. The traditional phrase "de cette paroisse" is omitted, but the curé was not in the habit of using that phrase anyway. > > > > Al Poulin > > > > On Apr 21, 2014, at 2:33 AM, Doreen O wrote: > > > >> It would seem to refer to the addition of Joseph as baptism name which was omitted from the text. > >> > >> Father was Charles Poulin and mother was Marie Angelique Vachon > >> Pierre Poirier, an uncle, was the godfather and godmother was Marie Genevieve Boutilette. > >> > >> > >> > >> > >> ----- Original Message ----- > >> From: "Selma Grant" <selma_grant@yahoo.com> > >> To: "Quebec-Research" <Quebec-Research-L@rootsweb.com> > >> Sent: Sunday, April 20, 2014 6:49:17 PM > >> Subject: [Q-R] Pierre Poulin but > >> > >> https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-28027-7504-86?cc=1321742&wc=MHBY-H3N:13625201,13625202,13625203 > >> What is the infor under Pierre Poulin ??Joseph?? > >> Selma > >> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~For the list web page, goto: > >> http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~unclefred/main.htm > >> And we are on facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/QRlist/ > >> List Archives are at: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/QUEBEC-RESEARCH > >> ------------------------------- > >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to QUEBEC-RESEARCH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~For the list web page, goto: > http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~unclefred/main.htm > And we are on facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/QRlist/ > List Archives are at: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/QUEBEC-RESEARCH > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to QUEBEC-RESEARCH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
