    2. Evergreen church cemetery vandalized EVERGREEN, La. — Authorities in the central Louisiana town of Evergreen are on the lookout for vandals who recently damaged graves at a historic church cemetery. Headstones were toppled over or broken. One is missing. The church was established in 1841. Some of the damaged monuments in the cemetery are more than a century old and will be difficult to repair or replace. "It is a disgrace that something like this takes place. It has to be a sick mind to do something like this," said resident _Stebo Pearce_ (http://www.mysanantonio.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=news/crime&se arch=1&inlineLink=1&query="Stebo+Pearce") . Evergreen Police Chief _Charles Mayeux_ (http://www.mysanantonio.com/?controllerName=search&action=search&channel=news/crime&search=1&inlineLink=1&quer y="Charles+Mayeux") said he is determined to find the people responsible for the damage. "There is a lot of history up here, and a lot of people are upset. The word has got out on this, and we have a lot of people coming to the cemetery now to check on loved ones' graves," Mayeux said. Mayeaux said he is optimistic there will be justice. "I am going to catch them," he said. "It is not a matter of if I catch them. It's when I catch them. We are going to pursue this and we are going to push for the maximum penalties."
