    3. Hello Mary, and all, Sébastien PROVENCHER and Marguerite MANCHON (real name is MARCHON) contracted to marry on January 22, 1663 in front of notary Louis Laurent du PORTAL, in Cap de la Madeleine. They were probably married shortly thereafter in Cap de la Madeleine but the record went the same way all the other early records for that parish went, and vanished. Don't go looking for the actual marriage contract. It too has disappeared. Though a fair bit of sleuthing I was able to find a mention of it in an inventory drawn up by notary Cusson, on April 26, 1691. Although Cusson lists the contract in the inventory, he does not copy its actual content. As a result the name of both Sébastien's and Marguerite's parents is unknown. Recent research by myself and by the Provencher Family Association point to Marguerite and Sébastien having been related. If we are correct, Marguerite's paternal grand-mother was in fact a PROVENCHER. I will refrain from providing further details as this research is on-going and our findings remain conjectural.
