    3. Another lister sent me the below info. It would seem that Clarice was already married in England and that her husband sent her on ahead alone to work briefly as a cook in Toronto. Joseph Burton must have come in 1929 and they met up in Montreal where they had a child Shirley in July 1930 but she doesn’t seem to have lived long. Sorry, I forgot to add the first message before sending. It looks like someone else tried to find Clarice in 2011. From: Barbara Ferguson <macjoy@barbaraferguson.plus.com> Subject: [MONTREAL] Still Searching for Lost Mother Date: Sat, 3 Sep 2011 12:00:48 +0100 We thought the marriage between Clarice Pugh and Joseph Burton may have taken place between 1928 and 1933 in Montreal. Clarice Burton may have died around 1960/61 and Joseph who had been a soldier in WW2 disappears after the war possibly dying. My friend has now mentioned that she half remembers the name Shirley as a possible child born to Joseph and Clarice. So, now we need a birth certificate to try and track Shirley or any other possible children, making them potential half brothers or sisters for my friend. Clarice was born here in Lancashire in 1897 so a possible time frame for births in Montreal might be between 1936 and 1945. Warm regards Barbara Another lister sent me the below info. She had assisted passage, her occupation was a cook and her destination was The Canadian Women's Hostel, 72 Carleton street, Toronto, ON; her mother's name was given as Mrs. L.E. Pughe, 8 Beardwood, Blackburn. 2) that the CPR ship Montclare sailed from Liverpool and arrived at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 18 February 1933 with Mrs. Clarice Burton as a passenger, giving her place of birth as Blackburn, her age as 32, and that her mother was Mrs. Elizabeth Pughe, and her husband was Joseph Burton and address was the Eadie street on in Cote St. Paul

    3. There seems to be an overlapping of messages. Clarice Pughe & Joseph Burton had a child born July 1930 in Montreal at the Royal Victoria hospital, named Shirley and who died in September of that same year.
